Don;'t suppose you fancy a Strat? US '62 Vintage re-issue 3 tone burst, Rosewood, 'C' profile neck, Partchment plates... Ok it's not a bass... I admit it; or maybe a Trace AH350SMX and either a 2x15 or 810 (both Trace) and some pennies??? The Bacchus is too pretty not to ask... as you're in Northumberland I may be able to deliver... (the cabs especially the 810 are not on the little side...) Andy
Hi Andy, Sorry, neither of those things tempt me, although that Strat looks pretty...the only thing that might interest me for a part exchange are studio microphones or maybe a g&l tribute 2500... Thanks anyway!
Mike Walsh of Zoot/Purple Chilli would make one to fit. http://www.purple-chili.com/iceni-zoot/ser...atch-plates.htm That said I used to own the Bacchus Impression that has just sold and now have a Bacchus Standard, (which looks virtually the same as this). Both had clear scratchplates that I didn't think I would like, but in the flesh you realise it would be a sin to cover up such a fantastic piece of wood.
I agree, personally I wouldn't touch it, it's a beautiful piece of wood. I can't really find any differences between this and the Bacchus Standard, not sure what makes it a Venus??

Okay, I've just printed out an American Jazz 5 string pickguard to scale from this great website.....very handy... It's similar and could possibly be made to fit but it's different in two areas, firstly the size of the pickup is different and secondly the area where it meets the fingerboard is curved on the template whereas the fingerboard actually has straight edges. Here's a quick photo which will explain it better: The screws are mostly in the same place but some aren't quite, I think it would probably be easier to just get one made than to alter an existing one. Hope this helps...
I guess it depends on what OS you prefer, and how much money you're willing to spend. The basic Macbooks and Macbook Pros start off at fairly reasonable prices but, as soon as you try to upgrade the internals, the prices shoot way up. I have a Dell laptop very similar to your specs (same proc, 6GB ram), and it cost me around £1100, including 3 years next day warranty, 2 USB 3 ports, 15" 1080p screen and blu-ray player. To get a comparable mac (without the blu-ray as Apple won't support it, and with a lower resolution screen) would cost £2154; almost double the price I paid! The Mac has many advantages (build quality, much better battery life, looks pretty), but it also has many disadvantages, and certainly nothing to justify paying over £200-300 more, let alone the £1000 more they're actually charging. To sum up: get a decent windows laptop, it will cost you around £1000-1200. Unless you're rich, then it depends on which OS you prefer.
Same processor as a MBP 2011? My 2011 MBP with 8Gb Ram AND an SSD was cheaper than the Dell, will most likely be worth at least double when I come to sell it too. Blu-Ray has no bearing as it isn't used at all in music (most laptops will have no optical disc drive at all very soon), and as for USB 3 it is dead already. The hardware manufacturers will be releasing thunderbolt compatible interfaces/drives in the future, until then USB 2 is fine. Where is your FireWire port for external HDD? Without that you can't record using Pro Tools...

How about a used SM58? Amongst tons of other chanters, Bono has been known to use one in the studio...great workhorse mic...

Another vote for a 2011 MBP, been running some frankly huge sessions on mine without any problems at all....beats my quad core mac pro..
In each domain, it's how you use the equipment that will determine 90% of the quality of the recordings, not what equipment you use. C
+1 Never a truer word spoken. Also, to reiterate what others have said, a great sounding room for tracking and a properly treated control room are worth more than any bit of equipment...

Nice...thanks for the tip... -
Hi all, Up for grabs is my Yammy BB605 in great condition, punches well above its weight in terms of playability and tone. Its body is solid alder, scale is 34", pups are 2 jazz single coil jobs and it sports some type of Nathan East alike tone circuit, a really solid bass for the money. Speaking of which, I'd be looking for £180...cheers! Here's some pics...
