Have you got any pics?
2. C, 3rd fret on the A string, just marvellous.
3. BUMP! These basses are quality and well built. Good luck with the sale!
4. Quite like the look of the Rob Allen actually. Never going to afford one though.
5. Finally got the book and it's great! Thanks for the recommendations! Also Coilte, thanks for that I've looked into it and will continue to study it as I realise it's importance.
6. Try and find some live versions on Youtube. Chances are they'll be a bit faster than the recorded version, as you'll never get the tempo spot on and most likely your band will be playing it faster. So find some live versions and try to play to that, it helps me. Hope this helps.
7. I just wait a few beats to get in time then find my bearings. Usually I catch eye contact with our drummer and smile because we always have a competition to see who makes the most mistakes in a set, as a way to motivate our playing.
8. Ooh yay! Thanks for the heads up.
9. I do quite like this song tbh. Although the brilliance of Frusciante's guitar is missing, the new guitarist changes the roots of the Chilli's a bit and this is new stuff and a new direction. Plus who knows if Flea did use his Fleabass on the recording? Most likely he's showing it in the vid for publicity.
10. His Fleabass is probably customised and properly built though. Still, not a good brand of Basses.
11. 4. Couldn't imagine more than that. Hard to work with. Unless it was someone who can keep impeccable time.
12.
It does take a while...but well worth it in the end What are you thinking of finishing it with? Andy
Olympic White (from Manchester Guitar Tech.) Maybe, if I research it enough, I'll try relicing it.
13.
Superglue wasnt any good, trust me. I even put industrial carpet glue on it, and that didn't work!
You could try velcro pads on the board and on the bottom of the pedals?
14. Thanks for the replies guys. Started sanding today. Gonna take a while! EDIT: More sanding!
15. Gorgeous wood and Bass! This is truly masterclass.
16. Hello BC'ers. Decided to kill my summer holidays this year with a refinish and restoration on an old Peavey Milestone III Bass. I got this Bass from school for free considering it was broken and battered. Seemed a good thing to do. There's also 2 more broken basses which I hope to get my hands on soon. This is my first time trying this so any advice is greatly appreciated and if I'm doing something wrong, please shout at me! So, this is the Bass: Plywood, battered, bad paintwork, bad drilling. 2 tuning pegs missing and god awfully dirty neck. This will take me lots of work. Ah, it's all part of the fun. So, I will soon get the stripper and sanding paper I need and off we go into this undiscovered realm! More updates when I actually do something. Research time! More pictures of this thing here.
17. Yamaha BB350, 1994. More pics in the link in my sig.
18. It pays off. My band, we're quite young and we done a open mic for 3 months for a competition and ended up coming second (narrowly) but we got 4 gigs out of it with a price of 100 quid for each gig. Every time we write new material we head off to an open mic and get opinions on it and what we could improve before booking a studio session. Good luck!
19. Should test a Boss TU-1000 next. Nice thread with a healthy debate!
20. Don't let yourself down over that. You are your own style and what you play is what suits you. As they all say, learn from your mistakes. And as Hendrix said: "Don't play the music with your brain, let your feelings guide your fingers."
21. Incredible. That is a rhythm section and a half.
22.
First time I've heard Hipshot described as cheap! They do direct Fender replacements, in fact they make the current USA Standard Fender tuners. I would think the HB7s are what you want http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?...etail&p=261 but email Hipshot, they are very good at answering questions.
Meant individually cheap! And thanks for the advice, will e-mail them about it.
23. Hi all, Replacing my tuners on my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass 2011. I have Hipshots in mind, however I have no clue at all what would fit. I know there's other brands but Hipshots are quite cheap and have been recommended. Anyone know if their tuners can be directly fitted on? If Hipshot don't do any, does anybody know of any other direct replacements? Cheers.
24. Hi all, Just been looking at Squier Basses and while looking at both the Affinity Jazz and Precision I noticed that the body is Alder. To me this seems weird as normally Fender American's have this wood. Is this less expensive and not as good quality as the USA's? I found that my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz is Basswood but a lot more expensive, this may be due to the Seymour Duncan's in them but I was wondering how well Affinity's are made. Could and owners/past owners give me a general idea if they're good build? Cheers, got GAS for a Precision/Jazz Bass right now so thought I'd ask some questions.
25. Thanks for the advice everyone. Definitely going to order this book after what's been said. I look forward to getting a copy.
