As well as playing bass in a classic rock tribute band I find myself increasingly interested in electronic music and play/mess around with some of the Roland Aria gear: namely the System One synth and the TR8 drum machine. Has anyone used the TB3 bass synth and if so how do you find it?

Have we all become wimps or is it a sign of an ageing population
All of this, very much so. When my back first 'went' I was in my early 40s and a very fit and strong gym bunny. I was getting over a lengthy illness and went a bit mad on exercise - used to rep with 100kg for bench press and 200kg for squats etc. Thought I was invincible. One day I was measuring the width of a room indoors with a tape measure and the act of pulling the end out and sideways is what did it. I actually cried with a mixture of pain, frustration and laughter - often heard the expression 'helpless as a baby' but never thought I'd experience it until that point. So, yes, if it hasn't happened to you count your blessings but try to understand those who are afflicted. Having a bad back infiltrates pretty much every aspect of your life, not just lightweight bass gear. From not being able to put your socks on some days to standing all day, just because you don't want to have to get up from sitting.
+1 and Kex you have to remember that we don't transport heavy studio monitors or high end hifi to gigs and rehearsals each week, so there are both health and practical considerations. -
A couple of Epifani 1 x10's or AER?

Probably one of the most under estimated basses out there?

Just thinking lately about bass icons such as Jameson and Jaco and how at their pinnacle they were using Fender basses that were probably no more than 10/12 years old, and yet we seem to put so much emphasis on 'needing' to use or desiring a vintage bass when really these guys show us that its all in the fingers and head?

Behringer P16 I Module, light studio use. This amazing piece of kit connects to any mixer’s direct outs and converts up to 16 analogue audio signals to digital ones. They then go from the module via cat 5 cables to Behringer PM16 personal monitors or to Turbosound powered speakers via the Ultranet connection. The module has 6 outs, each of which carries 16 channels; these outs can be expanded further with the use of a Behringer Distribution unit (not supplied). Sound quality is excellent. Comes with mains lead, manual, and original box/packing. New these units cost around £176. Selling this for £120 plus £10 insured/signed for shipping. Local collection from Brentwood is good.

Excellent flight case, near new condition, very strong and built with robust materials. Custom made (by Buster cases) for a Behringer 2442 mixer only a year ago. Kept in a studio, un-gigged. Size: 6U; Mixer strips are 191/4" long, though total depth is 27" allowing for loom etc. to remain in place during transit/storage. Cost £170.00, looking for around £95.00 though open to close offers. Ideally this needs collecting due to weight and size, though shipping at cost is a possibility...... contact me if you need it shipped. Any questions please ask.
The moogs are a long way north of 200, even second hand, although the minitaur is impressive.
Animoog with iPad and a small controller could be a way to go.
I've been using the XR-18 for since they first came out and I have nothing but praise for the mixer. Yes, the software is a bit all over the place with different versions doing different things (X-Air edit on Mac or PC having different features, same with iPad and Android apps) but other than that its fine. I use X-Air Edit on the Mac at home to setup the mixer for a gig, then use an iPad mini from the stage to mix the show. Generally, I can do most of what I want to do on the iPad. I do use an external router (AirPort Express because I wanted the ability to have the iPad connected wirelessly and the Mac connected over Ethernet to record, but I've never actually gotten around to doing this. Finally, if you have one, or are considering buying one, I'd recommend joining the Behringer X-Air forum on their website. Loads of really useful end user experience and advice and guidance.
Thanks JPJ for thel info and the forum details, very helpful. I have tried out the X18/iPad in rehearsal and am very impressed. Also very nice the way it interfaces with Behringer's own monitoring system (P16 personal monitors). ATB, Paul.

Although we might lament the rising cost of new Aguilar, it does mean that the Aguilar equipment we have will maintain its second hand value..........

Thanks for the info. Could one use something like Airport Express?

I suspect the partnering is important, in terms of getting the best out of the amp. A change of situation might be best adapted to by change of instrument rather than change of amplification? After all the general principle is to amplify the bass to present its true sounds. I heard some bass player change instrument for a song, but the sound remains the same, as the centre of gravity is taken up by the amp..........
Yes, XR18 - do it. Although you probably want to budget for an external router also.
Is the internal router not up to the job?
