In Ear Monitoring for Rehearsal and Gigs?
paulmcnamara replied to paulmcnamara's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi Guys, thanks for the info on Jam Hub, looks really interesting. Whilst I am sure you are all right about turning down, but we are a rock band as opposed to a folk band and the monitoring method, for me at least, has many other implications which might seem onerus initially but I believe pay dividends. Anyway hopefully rehearsing this weekend (if the heasdphone amp arrives from Thomann in time) with the new monitoring setup and can report back next week. Cheers, Paul. -
Our band suffers from not getting a decent sound in the rehearsal room and a recent experience of recording ourselves has led us to consider setting up in a similar way for all rehearsals and gigs, using headphones initially in rehearsal and then perhaps using wired earphones for gigs (so we don't look totally disconnected from our audience). Looking at headphone amplifiers we realise that generally you get one mix, if being fed from a basic mixer, though with aux in's it is possible to personalise a mix a little. Plusses include the protection of hearing, getting a really good quality foldback, hearing everything that's going on, and getting a good recording too. Not sure about the disadvantages except the extra hassle of setting up. However it could mean rehearsing without needing to use PA which is a plus in terms of time spent setting up and adjusting. Our plan would, in time, be to move to an 'in ear monitor' wireless system, but at present that seems a bit of a jump and an expensive one. Would really appreciate your comments, ideas, or similar experiences. Cheers, Paul.

Time to part with my much loved but little used Adat Recorder. Purchased 10 years ago from Digital Village. It has had literally 100 hours of use, which in terms of wear is nearly new. Everything works as it should and I would describe the condition as excellent bar a few scuff marks on the top surface. It comes complete with mains lead, manual, box, remote control. (I will also throw in 2 Studio Spares looms (one pictured) and 2 new tapes for personal collection, but not if posting as they are rather heavy) Whilst I am willing to post within the UK I would prefer local pick up. I'm close to M25 junct 28/A12, or could do a meet up within reason. So all you need is a mixer and you have a very tasty pro recording set up. I'm looking for £250.00. Paypal Gift/Bank Transfer/Cash on collection. I'm open to reasonable offers. If you would like further details please PM me. cutting sound from a stingray? eq advice needed!
paulmcnamara replied to bigevilman's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm using a classic Stingray c/w Aguilar TH500 & 2 SL112 cabs, playing classic rock. Tend to max out bass on guitar and have treble about +2. On the amp I cut the lower mids, boost bass and have treble at 0. I find this sound really cuts through especially across all the string and up the neck, also it gives a big fat bottom end to our sound, which is also well defined owing to the Gramma Pad on which the rig sits. Hope this helps. ATB Paul. -

The Fullerton Reissues '82 to 85 were all nitro just as the pre CBS's. Sometimes they turn up at a good price, though considerably more than the roadworn. [attachment=133484:1310134490-IMG_9958.jpg] [attachment=133485:1310134339-IMG_9969.jpg]

Without my glasses I can't see the neck of the bass clearly! Although I don't need to look at the neck all the time, I like to see it clearly when I do look. As regards Buddy Holly and John Lennon their glasses are part of their iconic image..... as distinct from practical considerations?

Amp Repair Guy stole my Amp!!! Help!!
paulmcnamara replied to DanielMount's topic in Repairs and Technical
Perhaps approach the shop to find out if they know him, and if he is who he says he is. Maybe they could contact him on your behalf? You clearly delivered the amp to his address originally? So to go back and pester him would be a possibility. ATB, Paul. -
Just had a meet up with Roger; I must say he did the lion's share of the driving. I bought his Epifani UL110. A real gentleman and a pleasure to meet. Many thanks Roger, its sounding great. Good wishes, and maybe see you at the Herts Bass Bash, Paul.

Can someone talk me into, or, out of this, please...?
paulmcnamara replied to dougal's topic in Bass Guitars
If you are going to keep the bass, it really doesn't matter what you do to it, as long as you are happy. If you plan to sell it at some stage, then either leave it as it is, or, get famous. ATB Paul. -
worst amp you have owned or had the luck to use
paulmcnamara replied to stu_g's topic in Amps and Cabs
In my very early days, (1974) I thought I'd be clever and buy a Carlsbro Marlin PA amp and put it through my 4 x 12 so that I could connect not only my bass but also a couple of mics for our 2 singers. The bass sounded really crap! Later I also connected a set of EKO bass pedals too, and yes you guessed it, they sounded crap too. Recently I used a hire amp at our rehearsal place: it was a 300watt Laney...... really crap too. Nothing like my Aguilar! Cheers, Paul.
