Another recommedation for the Peavey miniMax. Light, loud, flexible, solid build and cheap to buy. Mine is the cheapest amp I own by a long way, but it's excellent. It makes me wonder why people spend £1000+ on class D amps. Frank.

Top money! The description of the parts used isn't completely accurate either. I'm sure this is an excellent bass though. I have one in white/tort. It's a little heavy but well balanced, so I can manage long gigs quite well with it. Frank.

Beautiful twins! I have an identical USA Jaguar, bought 5 years ago. They're a very versatile bass. My only complaint is that the fret position markers on the top of the neck are not easy to see. I don't look at the frets when playing so it's not a massive problem except if you're moving over several frets on a poorly lit stage. One really good thing about the USA Jaguar is that it will still play with a flat battery, indeed even with the battery removed completely. Frank.

These are very strong and durable and you can add more if you need more capacity. Mine has withstood years of abuse on building sites and has regularly been used as a stool without breaking. https://www.diy.com/departments/magnusson-site-system-18-tool-cart/1511741_BQ.prd Frank.

Mmm, there are so many bands that I love, but I'll play the game.. The Beatles. Yes. Steely Dan. (Although they're not British.) Frank.

A portable rig for jazz - any advice/preferences?
machinehead replied to julietgreen's topic in Amps and Cabs
A good choice. I had a pair of Markbass 2 x 10 Traveller cabs until I moved to Barefaced around 2009. One was usually enough in my covers band. I think you'll like it. Frank. -
Covers band players. Nail it or close enough?
machinehead replied to krispn's topic in General Discussion
I do all sorts of different things but rarely learn a song as per the recording. That is unless there is an essential bass line that is key to the song, then I play it the same, for that part at least. Frank. -
FENDER '75 REISSUE, MINT, 1 OF ONLY 78. WITHDRAWN, NO INTEREST.
machinehead replied to tom1946's topic in Basses For Sale
I've never seen one of these! It's idendical to (as far as I can see) my USA Fender Vintage Hotrod 70s Jazz - right down to the PJ pickups, the Candy Apple Red colour, pickguard colour and the badass bridge. Mine has a compound radius fretboard, which is the only difference I can think see, except the price - mine was £1760 when it was new, about 5 years ago. That makes yours a fantastic bargain. I'd say this will sell very quickly. Frank. -
My post was a little tongue-in-cheek because it's natural that you can only recommend what you've owned or tried on a gig. I honestly believe any amp will do the trick as long as it's powerful enough. That's why I don't buy expensive USA brands, many costing over £1000!! Frank.

Everyone will just suggest the amps they own, so I'll do the same. Quilter BB800 or Peavey miniMax 500. There is some logic though. The BB800 is small and lightweight, is very powerful and smooth with big lows if you want them, so perfect for the blues/R&B I play. And it's CHEAP but excellent quality. The Peavey miniMax 500 is small and lightweight, is very powerful and smooth with big lows if you want them, so perfect for the blues/R&B I play. And it's even CHEAPER but excellent quality. Frank.

The Reidmar is excellent, but I'd also recommend trying the Peavey MiniMax 500. I've been gigging mine regularly since I bought it as a cheap back-up amp. It's fast becoming my main gigging amp. Frank.

Thanks stevie. My only experience of Sica is when I had to replace a Sica 12" driver in my AER Amp 2. The coil burnt out. It did sound very good though, so it's hopeful. Frank.

For some with back problems, joint pain and a variety of other health problems, it's important. And that's before considering future health problems caused by heavy lifting. Having said that, I've been happy with Barefaced for over 10 years and won't be buying anything else anytime soon, if ever. Frank.

Does anyone know the make and models of the drivers they're using? They look very interesting cabs. Frank.

Very interesting. I wonder what drivers they're using? Frank.

I can't resist asking - what is the tribute act? Frank.

Compact rig review: Barefaced One10 + Taurus vs Warwick vs GK
machinehead replied to rogerthetiger's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's an excellent review. Thanks for taking the trouble. I've a pair of one10s. The improvement in tone when using two is very noticable. But, a single one10 sounds far, far better than something that tiny should. I gig a single one10 in smaller pubs with a Quilter BB800 and it's glorious. Frank. -
What is the best head amp for Barefaced two ten?
machinehead replied to Radchenko's topic in Amps and Cabs
Honestly, I think any decent amp will sound good through a two10. I have a pair of one10s and I've used a few amps with them. None sounded bad! Why not save a few quid and shed some weight and buy a Quilter BassBlock 800. It does everything I need anyway and I use it with a single one10 in small pubs with excellent results. Frank. -
Warwick to become 'Exclusive Licensee' to Sadowsky!
machinehead replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
Gawd! I think they need to do better than that - especially in the UK. (Tesco?) Maybe that's just a prototype? Frank. -
I have one of the older ones. I bought it about 10 years ago and used it for several years gigging. It's now used just to store a bass. The quality was okay at the price. (I think it was £30 - £35 at the time.) It did the job although the zip for the pocket broke early in its life. The padding was on the thinner side. I've since bought a Protection Racket gig bag which is better but more expensive. For the last 5 years or so I've used a Mono which is the very best in my experience although, at the price, it bloody well should be. Frank.
