This is something we (one of my bands) actively promote ourselves as- the good-time band that get the punters dancing and drinking. We recognise that that's our job and that it's what we're getting paid for. Frank.

An electric shaver works well. I'm not joking. Frank.

I get slightly nervous, but it always settles after one or two songs however... Last night I was absolutely bricking it. We had Eric Bell, (guitarist and founder member of Thin Lizzy for younger members. ), joining us. I settled after the first song and by the time he decided to do Whiskey in the Jar, I was OK. And for the record, he was a pleasure to play with. Humble, friendly, funny, and what a guitar player! Frank.

I think these have a cooling fan? If that's correct, I wouldn't use the amp without a cover as it might effect the air flow, and hence the cooling. Light aluminium would be perfect for a cover, and easier to cut than steel. Frank.

OK, I'll mention the one that most folks know already, just in case someone doesn't - the rubber seal from Grolsch beer bottles make great strap-locks. I use them on all my basses. I see Fender are selling copies now at, if I remember correctly, £2.00 each!! Frank.

The Squier Classic Vibe series are excellent and top value for money. If it was me I'd be trying to stretch to a used USA Jazz. You're almost in that budget anyway. Frank.

Sold Barefaced 2x12T PLEASE READ ALL OF POST
machinehead replied to richardd's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
If I was close to you I'd have that in a heartbeat. I really don't see how it would be a difficult repair - why not remove the grill and speakers and have a look. Even if you don't want to repair it yourself it shouldn't be a problem to find a friend who would help? This is a bargain for someone. Have a bump. Frank. -
I'm not trying to be a smartarse here, but the area of a circle is given by Pi x R x R. So your answers will be approximately three times more area. But there are lots of other factors as you probably know well enough. Frank.

Since you're already familiar with EBS, how about the EBS Reidmar 750. These are excellent amps, at a good price. The compression and drive knobs add a lot to the sound which can go from clean and bright to fairly overdriven. They are VERY LOUD too. Frank.

Never sell anything unless you need the money or stop liking it. Frank.

I fancied the rosewood board model but it looks even nicer with maple. If these play and sound as well as they look, Ibanez will sell a shed load. Frank.

Would you say that through-body stringing might be a problem with TI flats? They're very flexible but I'm cautious about the angle through the body. Frank.

We picked up a gig here in Belfast last night at short notice because the band that was due to play was coming from England and their flight was cancelled due to the weather. And the snow was heavy enough here too. Every cloud has a silver lining... Frank.

Ashdown Mibass 2.0. Big problem (Resolved)...
machinehead replied to itsmedunc's topic in General Discussion
From what I've read here, this seems as clear a case of a manufacturer's error as you're likely to see. I would still be arguing this one. Frank. -
Replace or fix broken tuning machine
machinehead replied to OCroft (The Nit)'s topic in Repairs and Technical
That's not a bad idea, but who has access to silver solder? I do have, but I doubt many others do, but Araldite is available to everyone and simple to use. Frank.- 24 replies

This is the reason I sold both my combos. (Markbass CMD121P and AER amp two) It's not easy to carry a back-up amp if you use a combo at a gig. I now have only cabs and heads. I take one or two cabs to gigs but always two heads. My combo replacement is a Barefaced one10 and GK MB200. This doesn't solve linus27's problem but it is portable, lightweight, reasonably priced and very capable for gigging, especially an acoustic gig. Frank.
-
Probably a decent combo but £850? The Markbass 121P is a 12" speaker and 500W amp for about £649, the drawback being the head isn't removable. Frank.

Mesa Walkabout. Frank.

Another good option if you want a clean sound with the option of some drive is the EBS Reidmar 750. It'a a superb amp at a very good price. Frank.

That's a beautiful colour. Frank.

The TC polytune is excellent. It's all I use for gigs and everything else. Frank.

I had one for years. (It's now with my son in New Zealand though.) The neck is super comfortable and the slab body was never a problem for me. The sound is, as you know, thick and full. I never had any unwanted noise problems - at least, no worse than a Jazz bass on one pickup. The materials and build are excellent. Mine did get a new badass III bridge which is a massive upgrade and the only thing that needs changed. The original bridge does the job but setting the intonation is tricky so the badass III is a big improvement. I'd say yes, go for it. In fact, I've been eyeing up the one for sale here. I'd love to have a 51 RI again. Frank.
