Very well put Bill. Frank.

My advice is to look into this carefully as well as listening to the experts here before buying what a manufacturer recommends. The cynic in me tends to think that Markbass, and other makers, know perfectly well about the perils of mixing speaker sizes. (I've owned a pair of Markbass 2x10s and a Markbass 1x15 and the 2x10 is deeper and tighter sounding if that helps.) Frank.

The BB2 is a great cab. I gigged mine recently with my new Quilter BB800 and it was just sublime. Regarding the horn - turning the knob counterclockwise turns the horn ON, clockwise is OFF. This is unusual, so maybe you got it the wrong way round? Frank.

Saying goodbye to some old friends to make way for new
machinehead replied to BCH's topic in General Discussion
Thanks BCH. I've fancied a Streamline since getting a Steinberger Spirit a couple of years ago. I'd like to try one before investing though as it's a lot of money if it doesn't suit me. -

There are some lovely instruments there. I quite fancy one of those Status Streamlines. How did you find it for comfort when standing? Frank. -
WITHDRAWN - Barefaced One10 Cab and cover
machinehead replied to obbm's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I thought these 10" series cabs were very "old school"? I have a pair as well and love the thick tone but it's not modern to my ears. The 12" series is louder and more full-range. I like both. I find the BB2 enough for almost all my gigs. Dave, the one10 is loud for its size, and very deep. A single one does me perfectly well for rehearsals and small pub gigs with a blues/rock band. You can return it if it doesn't suit you. Sorry for the thread derail OBBM, but have a bump anyway. Frank. -
Barefaced Super Compact owners! Tape measures out!
machinehead replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Amps and Cabs
The "Super" models are all G3. The height of a Super Compact and BB2 is 560mm excluding the rubber feet. Frank. -
But isn't it the case that adding another cab will require less power, not more, to reach the same volume? Frank.

Older Barefaced Compact (15) vs Newer Super Compact (12)
machinehead replied to Tradfusion's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had the same set-up and I'd broadly agree with Paul's opinion. I'd add that the Midget could take more lower frequencies very well via EQ. Both are great cabs. I don't have a Super Compact but I do have a BB2, which is a Super Compact with a horn, in a slightly bigger enclosure. I also have a Super Midget. If small size is your most important criterion, the Super Midget will do most gigs alone but again, with less bottom. I prefer the BB2 though for the massive lows and sharper highs. In my experience a BB2 (or Super Compact?) will do all pub gigs and most other gigs in hotel/club rooms. I gigged my BB2 with a Quilter Bass Block 800 yesterday. This was the first time using the Quilter with the BB2. It's just astonishing how good this combination sounds. Don't overlook the 10" range of cabs. I have a pair of one10s and these are also superb cabs - beautiful tone and one will do in a small pub while a pair will handle bigger rooms or a louder band. If you're ever up to Belfast, you'd be welcome to try the cabs. Frank. -
Resistance is not the same as impedance. Google it. Frank.

TI flats. They just seem to improve with age and I love the floppy feeling that many others hate. Frank.

I haven't owned or even heard an amp three, but I've had an amp one and, the biggest one in the series, an amp two. My thoughts are: they are both loud and great sounding (although quite different to each other.) but a little heavyweight, and VERY expensive. So, on balance, I think you can get equal or better performance for much less cash and at a lower weight. Now, I'll come clean - I have used Barefaced cabs since 2009. I now own four G3 Barefaced cabs. My thought on your situation would be that a G3 Super Midget and your current head would cope very well for all your gigs. They are loud and lightweight and easy to carry. If you sold your current cabs you might even have money left over. Sorry if this slightly derails your query on the amp three but I hope it helps a little. Frank.
-
I think any decent and lightweight 2 x 12 will do any gig and be an easier shape to move. Frank.
-
I use my one10 on public transport for small to medium gigs. If I need more volume I take the Super Midget. Both are great, but the Super Midget can handle a lot more volume, if that's what you need. For most of my gigs, the one10 is enough, especially if PA support is there. Frank.

Thanks stevie. I understand that, but it's such a vague term, so I was wondering what it meant specifically. Frank.
-
Thanks Bill. That's an interesting insight into speaker design and manufacturing. Frank.
-
Indeed you are correct. I wonder what "custom-voiced woofers" actually means. Any suggestions anyone? Frank.

One of the important points is that (I believe) these cabs use Eminence Deltalite II 2512 drivers with a Vd of 255cc. So a total Vd of 510cc for the SL212 versus c.1100cc for the BF Super Twin or c.550cc for the BF Big Baby 2. Mind you, I owned a 212 cab with a pair of Deltalite II 2512 and it was still quite loud, but not that good in the lower frequencies. You pays yer money and makes yer choice. Frank.

Perfect symmetry! That's a lovely little rig. Frank.

A triple One10 or upgrade to a couple of Two10's?
machinehead replied to largo's topic in Amps and Cabs
Alex, if you read this... put the name badge diagonally in the corner. That way, it wouldn't matter if a cab was horizontal or vertical. It might require a smaller or different shaped badge, but it would allow symmetry with both orientations. Frank. -
That's a great choice. I'm sure this will be perfect for you. I'll be gigging a one10 and Quilter Bass block tonight. The one10 is a marvelous little cab. Frank.
-
Haha. That's a beauty. Frank.
-
That's painful, but at least it's come back to life. These are excellent amps and very well built. Frank.

Anyone in Sussex or nearby got a quilter bass block 800???
machinehead replied to 51m0n's topic in General Discussion
I bought mine without hearing one, partly due to the fact that you can return it if you buy online. However, I'm keeping it. It's such a powerful and warm sounding amp. I've gigged the Quilter four times and have received unsolicited positive comments on each gig. That only ever happened previously with my Thundefunk 550. The EQ is simple, but you have to learn how to use it in conjunction with the gain and volume knobs. It sounds wonderful with the two EQ knobs at 12 o'clock anyway. I might write a review after a few months and many more gigs. So far, I'm very impressed and really like it. EDIT: I'm in Belfast otherwise you'd be welcome to try mine. I have a BB2 as well. Frank.
