I've used the pair of one10s with a Quilter Bass Block 800 now for three gigs now and I'm knocked out with how good this mini-rig sounds. (Full band of 2 x guitars, bass and drums.) I knew that adding an identical cab gives a much improved sound but the difference between a single one10 and a pair is quite amazing - and a single one10 sounds fantastic to start with. Volume doesn't seem to be a problem and the tone is just so solid. I'm really very happy with both the cabs and the amp. The total weight is 17kg - bonus. Frank.

I've done about 40. I have a gig tonight and tomorrow and on 30th December. That takes it to mid 40s so that's enough for me. Frank.

I'm still gigging regularly at 60. I've only kept lightweight basses and use wide straps. I can still do long gigs easily enough. Keep going. Frank.

And so... the second one10 has arrived. It'll get it's first gig (along with its twin), tomorrow night, at the Ulster Rugby Club Christmas dinner. And after the last two weeks Ulster performance it should be quite a party. Frank.

I use a single one10 for gigs in small pubs with drummer/guitar(s) and sometimes keys. It handles it easily. (Powered by a GK MB200 and now a recently bought Quilter Bass Block 800.) I like it so much that I've ordered a second one10 for bigger venues. Frank.

Well, I bought a Quilter Bass Block 800 just last week and I see earlier in this thread that I wanted one this time last year. This year maybe an EUB. Frank.

Does anyone have a Steinberger Spirit XT?
machinehead replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm glad you like it. I love mine and yes, the quality is excellent - they're great value for money. Setting the bridge/saddles is a bit of a faff, but if you take your time, well worth the effort. It transformed the action and playability of mine. The intonation is now spot on too. It was way off when I got it. Another thing - I've had mine for over 2 years and in that time it has barely gone out of tune. I had it in France in August and took it to it's first gig last weekend and it was still in tune. Impressive. Frank. -
If this sounds anywhere near as good as my GK MB200/ BF one10, it'll be fantastic. It's been a revelation to me how good a low powered amp and small cab can sound - both in tone and volume. Frank.

Hi Chiliwailer I have spare strap extension that you are welcome to have. No charge. Let me know if you want it. It might be better to wait until the new year before posting due to the Christmas rush? You'll have to drill two holes in the extension piece, one at each end, (easily done) and one hole in the guitar for the extension to swivel on. It rests against the existing strap button to stop it in the correct positon. I'll send a pic. Frank. -

I bought one for the same reason - I can take it away with me in my campervan. After a lot of adjustments, it plays really well and is comfortable to play sitting down using the fold-out support. It's a different story on a strap. The reach to fret one feels a mile away compared to a Fender. I solved this by making a carbon fibre extension (folding) to take the strap button to fret 12. It works a treat. By coincidence, I gigged it for the first time last night in a small pub. It did fine. The pickups are not in the league of my USA Fenders, USA SUB or my Warwick LX4, but, they're fine and I will get used to their different sound. All in all, I'd say they're worth the money although I bought mine used for about half the new price. I really pleased with it. Frank. -
I'm just home from a gig but my second one10 hasn't arrived yet so I used the BB2 with my new Quilter Bass Block 800. My God, it sounds good. Frank.

P over the P/J configuration, and the benefits of Roadworn
machinehead replied to foxyFuze's topic in Bass Guitars
The USA Jaguar is a great PJ option. On the Jaguar the P pickup is about 20mm closer to the nut than a standard P. The pickups on the US Jaguar are switched, rather than blended, and some think this gives a sound that's closer to an actual Precision. I don't know about that but I do know that the Jaguar gives an excellent Precision sound. Frank. -
That's a very classy looking little rig. I hope you get great enjoyment from it. I'm waiting for my second one10. I've had my first one10 for over a year and decided to take the plunge on another matching one with the plain metal grill. If this is as good as I'm hoping it is, the BB2 and SM might be leaving. Although, I'm not sure I could bring myself to do that. I want to gig them all with my new Quilter BB800 before making any decisions. Frank.

I should have said - the LG 1000 is actually a 2 x 500watt amp so connecting a 4ohm cab to EACH output will give 1000watts. ie.500watts into each 4ohm cab. Connecting an 8ohm cab to one output will give circa 300watts into that single 8 ohm cab. Frank.
-
Your 8ohm cab will be fine. You just won't get the full 500watts you'd get with a 4ohm cab. Which probaly won't matter much anyway. I had one of these Little Giant 1000- they're a decent amp. Frank.

I also like low tension so it's TI flatwounds and D'Addario EXL220BT for me. The D'Addarios are lightweight and balanced tension. I find them very easy to play. Frank.

Who would you - most have enjoyed playing bass with?

Steely Dan. It's all so tasteful and jazzy. Frank. -
His choice of notes, tone and timing are sublime. He's a wonderful and restrained bass player. Frank.

Why does my J Bass sound more ballsy than my P Bass?
machinehead replied to AidanB's topic in Bass Guitars
I agree with this except that a J bass using only the bridge pickup won't be totally drowned out although, yes, the J bass will have more lower frequencies than the P in this situation and fewer mids. Both sound great, just different. Frank. -
Very tasty. Mine is plain black with a steel grill so the one I have on order will be the same. If I was starting afresh the vintage tweed would be very tempting indeed. Frank.
-
I agree. I use a one10 and GK MB200. It sounds superb. I do like the idea of one of the small PJB combos but I can't justify the cost given that the one10/MB200 is perfect for home practice. Back to being sensible - the older Fender Rumble 15 sounds great at home volumes and is cheap as chips. I've seen them at £20 to £40. Frank.
