1. If you're in a loud rock band I don't think a single one10 will be enough. Frank.
2. AER amp one is £1450 from GAK and weighs 13.5 kg. The one10 costs £319 delivered and weighs 7.5kg. (7.0kg if you go for the cloth cover at an extra £30.) That leaves you £1131 to buy an amp for the one10. Or an amp and a second one10? I agree that the amp one is superb. I've had a amp one (and an AER amp two - even better!) but the one10 will amaze you just as much. Frank.
3. I've had an amp break, fortunately during an encore, but this one is the most spectacular... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl402NYg9RE Frank.
4. A fuse in a plug is there only to protect the cable, not the equipment connected. The fuse rating should be selected according to the cross sectional area (CSA) of the cable. Frank.
5. Welcome Jacob. I just noticed your introduction. Welcome to N Ireland. You are indeed welcome to join us in the John Hewitt pub on a Thursday night for some great music. And yes Trevor is a great player. Also, if you like to jam, there's are monthly jam in the Enler Delta Blues Club in Comber. (It's not only blues) It happens to be on this Sunday 19th November from 15.00 to about 18.00. All singers and musicians are welcome. It's a very friendly family atmosphere and children are welcome. PM me if you're interested. Frank.
6. Having owned both, I would say the 0ne10 and a decent amp is at least the equal of an AER amp one (possibly louder) and, as I said before, it would be less than half the cost and weight. In fact, a pair of one10s and amp would still be cheaper than an AER amp one. Frank.
7. You're on the right track in my opinion with the Barefaced one10. I use mine with a GK MB200 and it's excellent, and surprisingly loud. Easily loud enough for a small pub gig with drums, guitar etc. I briefly had an AER amp one and while they are amazing little things, the one10 and a decent amp is at least as good as the AER amp one and probably half the cost. (And lighter.) Frank.
8. Yes, I see what you mean. On my screen "£200" appeared below the title? Frank.
9. £200 at the top. Frank.
10. I saw one of these "in the flesh" yesterday. My God, they make my GK MB200 look massive. Mind you, I'm very happy with the MB200 so the size advantage doesn't bother me. Frank.
11. Brian, Would you PM me your location please? I'm in east Belfast. I'm interested in this bass. The one thing that worries me is the weight. Is the 9.5lbs definately accurate? Good luck with your sons wedding. I've had to pay for two daughters weddings. You have my sympathy. Frank.
12.
What was crackling in the circuit when it was in the bass? Did the crackles happen when you adjust a pot? or when you move when playing the bass? or when you touch a pickup? Or did it happen when it's laying on it's back on the floor and you pick a string? I ask this, because it's far more likely that the problem is a pot, or a poor wiring connection than a faulty pre-amp. Physical problems are much more probable than an electrical problem. I too have a Streamer Stage 1. If you're stuck, send your complete Pre-amp assembly to me and I'll take a look. EDIT: Yes, it's very probable the problem is the wires that have come loose. Offer still stands - post it to me and I'll re-connect it and check it out in my streamer and check out any pots as needed as I can swap out bits with mine to find out exactly where any problem lies. I can do it over the weekend and back to you early next week, as long as we don't need new parts.
That's a very generous offer indeed. The spirit of basschat is alive and well. Frank. (And I tend to agree with Grangur's initial thoughts on how best to tackle this problem.)
13. If you want volume and thickness the Reidmar 750 is a beast of an amp. Nice comparison. Thanks. Frank.
14.
I use s/h monster cables bought of of fleabay. Didn't know about the slightly large jack thing tho....hmmn On a separate but related note, there was an ampeg head and cab on fleabay about a yr ago. The seller had replaced all the internal speaker and main amp internal cable with heavier duty wire which he claimed improved the sound - his point being that it's all very well spending gadzillions on premium gear but the bits of wire inside the speaker and amp are typically cheapest thin bit of wire, so by replacing same with heavier duty stuff, vastly improved the sound. No idea if he was right as I din't buy the amp and cab he had for sale....but it seemed logical Captain!
It's theoretically possible that he's right if the wires are so small in cross-sectional area as to cause impedance and/or resistance. But really, the currents involved aren't that high, so not a lot of cost reduction for the manufacturer by using smaller sized wires. So I think it's unlikely that they would do this? It would be a foolish money saving method anyway, especially if the reduced cable size caused heat. Frank.
15. It really is a simple matter to buy good quality power and instrument cables and good connectors and make your own cables up. Some of the overpriced cables on the market are just there for the terminally gullible. (I'm not saying that's the OP though.) Frank.
16. A WAL Mk 1 fretless, passed on for £200 back about 1990. If only I'd known... Frank.
17.
AER AMP ONE or AMP THREE. Pricey but effective.
I've only owned the AER amp one (briefly) and AER amp two. The Barefaced one10 cab with a decent amp is at least the equal of the amp one and will cost probably half, or less, than what the amp one will cost. Still, a good call if money is no object. Frank.
18. This is identical to mine. These are quality instruments with more tones than I could ever really need. Lightweight too. It's the most ballsy bass I've owned - even more so than a G&L L2000 and that's really saying something. Highly recommended. Frank.
19. Another one10 home user here- with a GK MB200. But I gigged this tiny rig on Friday night in a small pub, with drums and elecric guitar, and it easily coped. The tone is very sweet too. However, I would quite fancy one of those small PJB combos for the house, just because... Frank.
20.
Played the first verse of "Thrill Is Gone" in a different key than the rest of the band last weekend. That'll get you noticed. Blue Blue
Haha. Brilliant. Frank.
21.
Yeah, there is that I suppose, but when I say more modern sounding on the 08 range its not super hi-fi modern, just less middy and with a slightly sharper top end, def not a reason to veto the 08s, they`re great basses, don`t need a pickup swap at all, that`s just my personal preference.
I agree. And for me, the 08 to 11 are the best. But really, the difference is very subtle. Frank.
22. The PJB sounds really precise and tight but the AER is fuller. For my taste they are the winners. I could live with either. Frank.
23. Yes, I had a German LX4 and loved it. I also had a Streamer Stage 2 NT. Both those were the lightest weight basses I've owned. Both were superb instruments, and very different to each other. This Korean Streamer LX4 is different again. It has German hardware and electronics, but the body is cherry with a maple neck and rosewood fret board. The woods are, along with the Korean manufacture, the main money savings I think. There's nothing bad about it - it's an excellent instrument in its own right and still sounds like a Warwick, likely due to the MEC pickups and preamp. The build quality is top notch too. I think I'm going to enjoy it. Frank.
24. Apparently these Korean Streamers were £1100 to £1300 new, back in 2011/12, for anyone interested. (No one? Just me then. ) While they are great guitars, that seems a high price to pay, although comparable to Korean built Sadowskys and Laklands I suppose? Frank.
25. Right, I switched the amp on in a quiet room and had to put the amp up to my ear to hear the fan. It seems to be running slowly so maybe it speeds up as the amp heats. I doubt you'd need to drive it at all for home practice so the fan's unlikely to ever be heard. And yes, the Reidmar 750 and BB2 is a killer rig and loud enough for any gig. I have a Super Midget as well as a BB2 but rarely use both. Frank.
