...and 55-02 feels a bit firmer in the bottom, still lots but somehow slightly less flabby (55-01 not flabby but 55-02 even less so)

I have a 2012 55-02 std with mm/s and the Lakland pre. I had a 2011 55-01 before that with j/j barts. Both really nicely made and great sounding. 55-02 a little stronger in the mids and a little less clunky sounding, sweeter top end too, a bit more versatile sounding with the switched choice of coils on the mm too...

Used to have a Thumb NT 5 years back and it was really really nice but a bit clinical for me at the time, might be tempted by one of these Katana though! The Gallery have a used one in at around £1k it's blue though and I liked the natural one http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_details.cfm?ID=1944&type=Bass%20Guitar
I humbly share my S1 Jazz
Since sending you the S1 BottomE and despite loving my NXT4 I have come to realise that I can't live without a fretless electric bass as there are just some songs that won't work on upright, so...I will be properly joining in with this thread as soon as Bass Doc gets back from holiday and fits the new fretless neck on my Geddy Jazz!
Wow. You could buy one of these instead: http://www.ebay.co.u...8#ht_674wt_1270 .... and they're made of real wood....
Welcome to Basschat! Not sure how to call you - if you're female it's a bit strange to call you Bernard
Welcome! Melchett: It appears he wishes to marry a girl called Bob. Queenie: It is a very odd name for a girl, isn't it? Girls are normally called Elizabeth or Mary. Nursie: And Donald... Queenie: Mouth is open Nursie, should be shut. Nursie: Thing is true, sweet one. I had three sisters and they were called Donald, Eric and Basil. Queenie: Then why is your name Nursie? Nursie: That ain't my real name. Queenie: Isn't it? Nursie: No. Queenie: No, what is your real name then? Nursie: Bernard. Queenie: Suits you, actually.
Andy, just to add to the discussion, you're in Sheffield? You're practically in throwing distance of Shuker. Not that you should base your decision solely on that, but it may help! I think generally everyone will have their personal preference and for me, other luthiers may or may not have put me off a custom with them in the past for one reason or another . I'm delighted with my basses and would recommend them way over and above basses twice the price, that are mere pretenders to the throne. ;0) ;0) Anyway, I hope you get a chance to play as many basses by different luthiers as possible as well as going to see the companies in person to meet and discuss your dream bass. Most luthiers should be able to show you examples of their work and give you an opportunity to test some. If i were nearer, i'd be happy to let you take a look at my customs. Good luck!
Thanks matey, I know I'm really near John, his body shapes don't quite tickle me the way ACG do, doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer them to play over an ACG as have never met either! He's even a friend of a friend so I really should pop over for a chat! I reckon your basses would scare me as I can't get on with more than 5 strings (neck too wide or strings too close together!), I would be interested in trying any through neck Shuker 5's that are local?
