1.
Are the original parts (neck, bridge, pickups) still available?
I don't think so, you could ask Mcgraham what he did with them, I suspect they're long gone matey...
  2.
And there was me thinking that my Geddy-GAS had been cured! Damn you!!
3.
So all that remains of the original "Geddy" is the body and scratchplate? Sounds like a lovely bass, but is it really a "Fender Geddy Lee" when there is so little of the original left? Anyway - have a bump. These are brilliant basses whoever makes them!
I know what you mean the original bits are the body and aesthetics really. "It was originally an actual Fender Geddy Lee model Jazz bass, the body; control plate; electronics; pickguard; strap pins and neck plate are still totally stock. (Black finish, alder body etc...)" The new neck really does marry perfectly with the body, they sound superb together, it really works! Jon Shuker has done a brilliant job!!
  4. I got this very recently on a trade thinking 'I really fancy a nice Jazz' and nice it is! It's so lovely to play and sounds superb, really growly, that superb 70's honk from the bridge p/up too. Tried it at a practice earlier this week and was really impressed with the sound! What I really need however is a fretless Jazz and this is far too nice to leave in it's bag for special occasions as my Lakland 5'er gets the regular 'workaday' use... The following description is from McGraham (previous and first owner) "It was originally an actual Fender Geddy Lee model Jazz bass, the body; control plate; electronics; pickguard; strap pins and neck plate are still totally stock. (Black finish, alder body etc...) The new (Shuker) neck is identical in shape, profile, nut width, fret size, blocks, binding, scale length, etc (even down to the degree of gloss and tinting on the neck, the original is a vintage tint somewhere between matte and gloss, not fully one or the other - Shuker cloned it perfectly) except for the following differences: - 21 frets not 20 - so it gives the highest note as an E rather than an Eb as on a normal 20 fret jazz bass - 16" radius - flatter radius so bends don't fret out - graphite reinforcement - haven't needed to adjust the neck once... all the comfort of the original geddy neck, none of the fuss = epic win. - slightly fuller shoulders, so slightly more D-like neck profile rather than uber shallow C. - 3 over 1 tuner arrangement rather than 4 inline - this was to reduce the overall length of the bass and get it to sit better on the body (the original one was too neck heavy for my style of playing). - The Geddy signature was traced and lasered onto the new headstock rather than leave it blank Mr Shuker also made a ramp in matching gloss tinted maple that pressure fits inbetween the pickups and works rather nicely actually (my first time with a ramp and I kinda like it). Other improvements made: Badass bridge was swapped out for a Schaller bridge that is extremely adjustable (from 22mm spacing to 14/15mm). (New Schaller 2000 4S bridge about £100) Hipshot ultralites tuners Pickups swapped out for DiMarzio Model J's - epic epic pickups. They sound great through anything. (New Dimarzio model J pickups also about £100) Control setup to have a master volume, rotary pickup selector and a tone as opposed to two volumes and a tone." There are a few dings and scrapes (nothing out of the ordinary for a 9-ish year old bass). The worst is through to the wood on the bottom curve near the strap button (see pics) and another smaller one adjacent, a couple of other minor marks and some very slight buckle rash on the rear and a tiny indented mark in the lacquer on the back of the neck which I don't notice when playing as it's higher up than my thumb sits on the back of the neck. Only other slight issue of note is that the strap button near the bridge has been moved higher up the bass at one point and there are 2 strap button holes so I've put a second strap button in there a bit like you get with a status so you can choose your balance point down there. This IS a players bass and not a museum piece (and has a couple of scars to prove it), it plays superbly and sounds brilliant. I listened to the lastest Rush DVD again recently and the sound is very reminiscent when played through my Genz shuttle! Comes with a rather decent rockbag. £[s]650[/s] 550 + shipping (am happy for buyers to arrange their own courier to ensure they get the best price) Would prefer collection but could post if need be... Offers and/or trades for a nice fretless considered (preferrably Jazz but not MIM though) important bit is the pics so without further ado... 5. I snagged a nearly new NS Designs NXT4 for £450 last summer and it does a very pleasing upright approximation, not quite there compared to my mate's £3k acoustic upright but really close and with a fishman platinum pro preamp it gets real close through a pa...I believe that if I change the strings to some proper upright ones the sound improves again too...
  6. Yet another successful swap here...my geetar amp for his Geddy Jazz, a very pleasant time was had while we nattered about music and all sorts of other stuff, top chap to deal with, integriteee!
  7. Free to a good home (or any other home) as I really need the space! Paid about £300 new several years ago, had my old NAD system sat on it for all that time, there are a couple of tiny marks on one leg, other than that it's pristine... Sad to hear this mate!
  10.
I can vouch for Martamp, now operating as MJW Amplification. I ordered and bought his Bantam model, which is ... IIRC ... the same architecture as his Roadstar models, but with far less tone shaping circuitry. So similar sound, but philosophically a bit different. The sound is EPIC. Cannot recommend them highly enough. Check out the youtube channel. http://www.youtube.c...7?feature=watch <-- That's mine
Thanks matey!
  11.
So, despite a complete lack of pictures, this should be ready for collection next week!!! Nothing like a huge element of surprise, bit I'm still very excited
we obviously need to see pictures as a matter of urgency...
  12.
I would never have thought of that! Thanks for the offer, I'll give you a shout if I need some!
I've added a pic of how mine looks, lighting not great but you can see what's goin on...
  13. That is super sweet, great job!
  14. Beautiful! It's my ideal jazz and the right colour too!!
  15. I've used a bit of old cot mattress foam and it's doin great so far... got plenty left if you want some?
  16. I have a 55-01 and have a 55-02 on order, I've tried a 44-02 in the gallery in london and it sounds good to me...the mm at the bridge gives the usual mm fatness but with more clarity, the preamp has 'dip switches' inside that enable you to select the frequency of cut/boost from the mid-range, you can also select which coil of the mm is used (one, t'other or both) and also blend that with the neck single coil pup... I like the string spacing, it's a little wider than my ray's were. The build quality of them is great, the hardware is great, I'm well pleased with my 55-01 and looking forward to my 55-02
  17.
Bugger Any direction you can point me in to obtain a copy?
this is the normal release one, can't find the bootleg... 18. I'd be emailing James at diago, he's been v helpful for me in the past, also check their website cos there's a compatibility chart on there too http://www.diago.co.uk/pedal-power/diago-micropower9.html http://www.diago.co.uk/powerstation_compatibility.html the list contains all the pedals he's been asked about, I can't see Markbass on either list so I'd email him direct! ("][email protected])
  19.
The next member from this forum to get a CertainBass gets a free Varitone! Peace, David
Welcome matey!
  20. the specs on their website indicate that they're exactly the same apart from the pickups / electronics and finishes / 'fancy top' options that are available
  21.
good luck with the sale, I've just popped mine up on ebay so hopefully that will get some attention - it's always a shame to have to sell such a great amp! Cheers
Good luck matey!
  22.
I spoke to a well known British bass builder a while back and asked how long it takes him to a build a bass from scratch including neck, body, custom active circuit and winding the pickups and he said 2 weeks I asked if that included letting the paint harden and polishing time and he said sure, 2 weeks from start to finish. But he made it clear that he never gets the chance to focus purely on building only one bass, he's always got urgent repairs and setups, sourcing of figured wood, hardware, accounts, phone and emails to answer, shows to attend. Plus a waiting list for new builds. As a result it can take up to 12 months to get a bass from him.
a good insight, thanks!
  23. General comment...It's funny the way loads of folks have opinions (rather strong at times) without actually having met the item in question. I can say that my Certainbass p is loads better than the fender p's I've had and possibly the vintage p's I've tried too...and cost about the same for what is (Fender at least) a mass produced item
  24.
That's very interesting... particularly the stuff about Varitone... http://www.certainba...m/varitone.html I have to admit I've not come across this before.
I don't have a varitone but I've heard them and they do sound rather nice... the sample that plays on their website is him on his varitone'd bass...
  25. Dave's latset newsletter does a comparison to a US fender which you may find helpful... http://www.certainbass.com/news/nl021212.html
