1.
Thanks for the pics and inupt Andy. I made the basic strap shape to fit an average body. I'm what I consider average: I am 5' 10" tall and weigh 13 stone. I'm not huge. I am probably a little larger than Andy. It contacts me very well all around. I would like to see what the other players on the list make of it.
No prob matey, it's the whole point behind sending it round the interested masses isn't it, gauging folk's opinion of it in use. Excellent idea and will hopefully make for a better 'end product' and also a good initial client list
 2.
Thanks for the thorough evaluation and pics. From the photos it looks like you are not getting the full benefit of strap contact on your back. Do you think that this is just because it's too wide for you, or could the shape of the strap be tweaked to ensure better contact?
No prob matey, that's why we're passing it round isn't it I'd agree on the lack of contact across the back, I wonder whether the wider-shoulder-bit should be more contained in just the shoulder area and the length across the mid-lower back could then be reduced to continue the same width as the end nearest the bass as this would help that section to bend in to fit the shape of your back? maybe a tweak in the curve of it too, dunno...I think it'll depend on the shape of the customer to a degree? Karl??
 3.
First impressions are that it: feels amazing, really supple leather and there's a lot of leather here! looks amazing, superb stitching, cutting, trimming, finishing. and smells awesome too! I love the smell of fresh leather in the mornings This is a serious quality strap! I'm really looking forward to trying it (I suspect my wife isn't though as they're not cheap but it looks freakin' awesome!)

Can we see a pic of it being worn please?

+1.

If possible, I'd like to keep this thread on topic for the strap discussion and feedback.
My feedback from wearing it (with J Bass) yesterday evening is as follows... feels like you're wearing a saddlery, looks like you're wearing a baldric (I kept wondering where I'd left my broadsword ) it IS a lot of lovely leather! smells awesome, really securely fits onto the standard fender strap buttons, I didn't feel at all nervous of it while I was swingin my J about, I usually have schaller straplocks for peace of mind but forewent that last night and didn't notice. The thickness of the leather lends itself really well to gripping the strapbuttons the grippy suede back stays exactly where you put it, excellent for curing neck dive I'd imagine. I've not had suede backed straps in ages so it took a little while to get it settled comfortably without rumpling my tshirt underneath but once settled it was great. didn't try to adjust the industrial snap-pops to alter the length so can't comment on them. it did feel hugely wide, a little too wide for me as it gave a slight 'kenny everett' shoulder where it overhung. This may be down to it not being made for me (being to fit Karl's shoulders)? Consequently I think I missed out on some of the 'cadillac of straps' comfort benefits but it was comfy to wear. My shoulder is a bit on the tender side at the minute as are the muscles in my neck so I was doubly curious to test the comfort levels. The lack of padding went entirely unnoticed as the width of the strap more than compensated for that, it was at least as comfortable as my usual minotaur strap and I suspect it would have been even more so if it was made to my dimensions! Possible improvement...would it be worth obtaining the measurement between the customer's neck and edge of shoulder in order to maximise contact area without having a 'kenny everett' shoulder overhang? 4.
Can we see a pic of it being worn please?
I shall endeavour to produce a suite of such pictures yes
 5. Well, I've got a set of D'Addario ENR71 Halfrounds (045-065-080-100) to try...we'll see how they do
 6.
I dunno mate, it seemed like a long time to me... It is 'pending', so we'll see.
a couple of days is lightning quick in this depressed marketplace buddy! all available things are crossed for you matey
 7.
It went out today, first class signed for. You should get it tomorrow.
The eagle has landed! 20140827_105924 First impressions are that it: feels amazing, really supple leather and there's a lot of leather here! looks amazing, superb stitching, cutting, trimming, finishing. and smells awesome too! 8.
Now *ON HOLD* pending the usual.
woohoo that was quick!!
 9.
Ched: An electric bass guitarist who arrives at a gig without means of amplification and uses another player's equipment often without soliciting the owner's permission. Example: 'So the other band is playing and I look up like and this ched is slamming away through my amp. It's clipping like a mother so I get up there and turn it down and the Ched's like what are you doing, man, then I wait till afterwards and I blow his sh*t the f*ck up, right there in front of his 14 year-old friends'
this is awesome and caused a public snigger
 10.
Yes, but that comes under the area of knowing the guy and you feel better about it. In the case of a multi-band gig, forget it, no way!
yep, too right
 11.
At the risk of hi-jacking: When folk talk about lending not wanting to lend amps, I take it you mean the whole stack? I've heard folk talking of being prepared to lend cabs but not the amp. Why would they do this? My worry would be at having some guy plug his 500w amp into my 300w cabs and blow the drivers. Am I missing something?
I'm talking the whole stack yes matey, I have offered the cab at a previous gig as I knew exactly what head the guy was going to use and it was lower powered than mine so would have been ok but generally speaking, neither are for 'loan' at a gig.
 12.
This may help..? ( ... or not..!) 'Ched' definition...

oh I see... thanks chaps.. I guess I'm a bit out of touch these days.

I looked at "words related to CHED" and thought, are you sure, I mean absolutely sure, about that?
hhmmm, that is not what it meant when I was at school and therefore also not what it means to me now but hhmmm...I meant 'others playing bass that night' really...
 13.
What's a ched?
ched / chap / "other bass player I don't know yet" / ...?
 14. cheers bass brothers, seems I'm not the only one thinking...'I've bought the amp I wanted in order to make the sound I wanna make with the band I'm playing in and every other ched who's wanting to play really ought to have done the same or they'll be really quiet and if they can't be arsed fetchin their kit out then nanas to them'
 15.
Yes, if I can amass the necessary number of shillings.
Woohoo and glwts matey
 16.
However, if the bassist in another band asks me before hand, with a genuine reason, I know them or we can work out some cab/amp share arrangement then its all golden.
this will eventually be my position when I've played around Sheff a bit more and know a few more bands, I'm relatively new to this local scene so don't know many other bass players yet to be able to do this...
 17. some magnificent ideas here guys, thanks! ...a few chuckles too I ended up with "...we will bring all our own amps (guitar and bass), cymbals, snare, stands etc. My bass amp is a big expensive all valve thing and I'm not comfortable letting other folks use it I'm afraid. Sorry" he seemed fine with that...
 18. ...tell a promoter that 'yes I do have a bass amp but no it's not for all and sundry on the bill to use, I bought it, it's mine to look after and I don't know the other cheds from adam so they're not chuffin using it'...? ...any ideas?
 19. The last one of our current batch of gigs (we do keep adding gigs into the list though so who knows what'll be next...) Our first gig folks will actually pay to enter, ticketed gig for a promoter we'd really like to get on side (Wagonwheelmedia) cos they do lots of our sort of music at higher profile venues another evening do, I believe tickets will be under a fiver and there'll be a couple of bands on...hope the beer's good This is us: Fargo Railroad Co Playing at: Shakespeare's - Sheffield
 20.
Andy, It went out today, first class signed for. You should get it tomorrow. Karl
Sweeeeet, cheers buddy
 21. Another gig, this'll be our third, different brewery (Ossett Brewery), still excellent beer, evening do, we're on at 9ish This is us: Fargo Railroad Co Playing at: the hop - sheffield
 22. excellent second gig, very appreciative crowd, very very enthused organiser demanding we accept a booking for a future gig at the pub on their regular music night...all in all, a superb second showing Link to a few pics Gigs Thread - Second post
 23. just had our second gig, at the Cross Scythes pub on Derbyshire Lane (Sheffield), as part of an 'acoustic' festival they were puting on, we may not have been terribly acoustic but we went down very well indeed and the manager/landlord/organiser was rather gushing in his praise and demanded that we come and play on one of his regular music nights...again we thought this a good sign
 24.
The proto strap goes out to Andydye tomorrow. We're going to need everyone to have a good play with the strap and then get it on to the next guy on the list as quick as is reasonably possible, so no one has to wait too long.
I'll let you know when it lands with me and will be able to use it at a practise this Friday evening and potentially (if it feels good) a gig on Sunday evening before posting it onwards next Monday I'm going to need an address for you walbassist matey
 25. Does this mean your p may be comin home matey?
