Hue and Cry - Labour of Love?

Hi I acquired this very tasty jazz in a trade a few months ago: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 It's a stunner and plays beautifully. The original control plate is supplied but I love the stacked knobs. I'm only looking to move it on as I've recently rejoined a band after a break and I need a decent 5 string. So I'm looking for a 5er in exchange. I'm not blessed with massive hands so I won't be able to cope with a hugely wide neck. A Jazz or similar would be ideal but let me know what you've got. I guess £650-700 is around the mark for trade value for my Jazz. Will sell also for around that. I'm in Birmingham but travel to London for work regularly and can bring it down. Cheers Andy

All very useful, thanks guys.

Thanks Bert. Is it a big hassle to whip the strap on and off? (That sounds wrong.)

Hi all I need to get some straplocks after a near miss. They're for an 08 Fender Precision. I fancied the Fender branded ones but have read a review that the bass won't fit in the moulded SKB case with them fitted. Has anyone had this problem? Does it still fit with Schallers in place? Ta v much. Andy

Thanks for all the advice guys. My wife's been out for a couple of hours so I've managed to have a good noodle without (a) having to explain why I've bought yet another bass, or ( trying to convince her I've had it for ages and she's definitely seen it before! Got on really well with it. The w

Thanks guys. You know what it's like when you've got something new to play with though, it's hard to leave it alone...

Hi all After 20+ years of playing 4 string, I'm finally giving 5 a go. I've bought a cheap Squier 5er off here to see how I get on as I didn't want to rush in and get something decent until I've given it a go. Can people let me know some tracks they enjoy covering on 5 string so I can practice using the freaky extra string?? I'm into rock but love playing anything with a good bassline. Ta v much. Andy

FS: 8 String Fender P Bass, converted by Jon Shuker (SOLUTION)

[sup]Just read through all of this and it's shocking behaviour. Thankfully this Sean guy is in the minority as I've had nothing but great experiences when buying or selling on here, but that doesn't help you 73jazz. I'd definitely be up for contributing to a fund to make up your loss mate.[/sup] [sup]Hope you get it sorted.[/sup] [sup]Andy[/sup] -
Jacqueslemac has just delivered this book by hand! What a gentleman, many thanks. If anyone would like this after me, let me know and I'll pass it on when I've read it.

On a looooong train journey and listening to Fleetwood Mac. Made me think that The Chain is a pretty average song rescued by a fantastic bass break. Feel free to disagree but are there any other crap songs saved by great basslines?

This is up for £2,200!!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-2005-Jazz-Bass-24-Deluxe-Discontinued-Model-Owned-Michael-Janisch-/290611936713?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43a9d23dc9 I sold one of these on this very forum for £360 delivered back in March and I'd bought it for a similar amount the year before off here. Admittedly it hadn't got the playing pedigree this one has but come on.

Cuold I put myself on the list after Jacques please? I'm seeing them at the V festival next weekend, really looking forward to it. This is worth a look for Jools' band introductions if you haven't seen it. http://www.youtube.com/user/bob19520#p/u/8/Lq5ltYWQlLU

I saw them at the NIA in Birmingham on Sunday and thought they were brilliant. Seen them about 15 times now over the last 21 years and this gig was in the top 5. Thought the sound was better than at the NEC and bigger standing area. Very funny when the bass and guitars cut out in Beast, Harry looked properly peed off. I managed to piss everyone behind me off by being 6'6" and generally spoiling everyone's view! The lights kept bouncing off Harry's mirrored pickguard and looked very cool indeed. I think the reason they didn't play that many older tracks and dropped Run To The Hills is because the last tour was the Somewhere Back in Time one with loads of classics. I'd much rather see them playing Phantom etc but they played it at the Clive Burr gig in Hammersmith in 2005 and I got to hear Ancient Mariner at Twickenham last time. If they play Alexander The Great live before they hang up their sweatbands I can die a happy man! Agree the setlist on this tour includes a couple of dodgier tracks but it really didn't matter, just gave me a bit of a breather. I actually liked Airbourne. Too ACDC for me to get into them, but the lead guy was getting everyone going by mentioning Maiden between every track. I haven't really enjoyed a Maiden support since the first gig I saw with Wolfsbane supporting them. I normally stay in the bar!

Ooh, very interesting. Are they MIM?
