Wilkinson Sword bass in great nick!!
Davetbass replied to Davetbass's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The guy pulled the listing with an hour go saying that there were 25 watchers and no bids!! Email him with sensible offers!! Does that strike anyone else as a bit fishy? Surely he must know that most bids will come in the last few minutes or is it deliberate ruse to create a transaction outwith ebay? Bugger....I wanted that! -
Looking at that pic I assume that bass case wasn't designed for the Blade bass If he slams that shut he'll leave some nasty marks on the headstock
It looks like a brick wrapped in fuzzy cloth! Will someone please buy this! I dont really need it and I find myself gazing lovingly at the listing everyday!! Musn`t buy......don`t need!........musn`t buy!!......dont..n -
My old teacher has played a Blade for years. I can't remember the tone, but it weighed a tonne(sp?). Rare, and enough so that no one seems to know they exist.
They`ve been around for years and I`ve only ever played the Strats. Great sound and quality! I`d imagine the basses would be of a similar standard. -
For any Blade lovers out there! Started at £200 but some kind person has told the seller of the true value (said through gritted teeth!!) Still a bargain IMO.......
I bought a 5 String T-Bass (with humbucker under the scratchplate) off eBay 2 weeks ago for £460. Lovely bass, great tone, really pleased. Wouldn't have paid £1000 for it!
£460 is a great price for one of these! I had a powder blue 4 string and loved it! Would definately entertain a 5 if it came along at the right price. New aquisition Kev? Need to sell that pbass first mate!!

Love the way the seller implies it's some 30 year old Japanese lawsuit bass but skirts round the fact the electrics seem to be knackered.
And he`s asking for 21 of your british pounds for it!! What a bastard!!
How does the Hohner play? I`ve fancied one of these for while as I used a 4 string one with a thrash band a while back (much to everyones amusement!) It sounded great and played well...
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post........ Stick yer hohner up yer arse -
you said it was brand new?
It was brand new when I bought it 6 months previous..... Is there anything else you`d like to know Kev?? Inside leg measurements perhaps
Not for the price! (what i paid anyway - £350 BIN, bargain)
Well thats a bit more realistic compared to £750.
£600, why??
Thats what they were going for... I dont think the second hand price for them is much more than that at the moment....

I know these aren`t made anymore as they were costing too much to produce but I cant help feeling that the SUB stands for sub standard! I sold my brand new, 3 band eq, black stingray for 600 quid last year...

Davetbass replied to Phil Mann's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Hi All, I ordered a set of Gotoh GB707E Bass tuners, but on arrival found out that I had ordered a set of 4 for a 5 string.....whoops. It turns out, they don't sell them in 5's either, so it's either buy eight or have an odd one out! So I'm selling them on. It's a set of GB707E's - or these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/gotoh_gb707e_cb.htm As New. £30 (including P&P) Phil
Would these tuners fit a standard jazz mate? If they do I`ll take them. -
Ahh. That seller's attitude pisses me off. How can you "not feel like" taking pictures for potential buyers? Either he is confident that he can sell it to someone else for that price, or he has something to hide.
I was a bit pissed one evening and decided to offer him $800 for it! Then I offered $805. He sent me a nasty email calling me a loser and a "douchebag" He told me that 800 bucks wouldn`t buy the air around this bass so I offered him $850 for the air! I asked him what "douchebag" meant and suggested that it might be someone that tries to sell something for far more than it`s worth!
The EMG's require 25k audio taper pots. If it's a 'bitsa' bass then you might have the usual 250k or 500k pots which wont work properly. Hamster
Thanks for all your help chaps!!
A "no load" pot has got a gap in the carbon track at one end that effeictively takes the resistance of the pot out of the circuit when you reach that point. I can't think straight enough right now to figure out what would happen if it was wired up the wrong way ! It's a non-standard part, though, and a little unusual. More likely to be dirt inside the pot, provided you've checked that all the connections to the pot are sound.
Sounds like a wrong pot, in the wrong place, at the wrong time!! Thanks mate!! Dave
I don't suppose it's a "no load" pot with a break at the end of the carbon resistance track is it ? Failing that I'd give it a squirt of contact cleaner to make sure there's no dirt causing problems.
It might be mate....to be honest I dont have a bloody clue! What`s the function of a no load pot? It`s the very last turn of the knob that causes the cut out. Does that sound like it? If it is that, would changing it out sort the prob? Sorry.... I`m new at electrics Dave

Just finished doing up a bitsa jazz bass with active EMG`s and have a wierd problem with the tone control. The bass arrived with no tone cap so after a quick visit to the EMG site, I bought a 0.1 tone cap and soldered it in. Everything is working fine untill I turn the pot fully clockwise, then it cuts the signal. Help! Dave
I swear as i just read your comment my bass glared at me across my room and nodded. In a nutshell i would say it is toast because as someone said earlier in this thread that a good way to test it is if it sound like crap unplugged then it will sound crap plugged which is the case. Also i feel the tones higher are up the neck don't cut through the mix which will be due to the crap pups. Thing is i used to play in a band at college who did original stuff for a couple of years then we broke up and i lost inspiration. But now i find myself in a cover band who now play once/twice a week and i am getting hooked on the money but am still with the same old crappy bass. I think it is time to empty that hungry piggy bank.
You dont have to skin yourself either! There was a thread about the Squire Vintage Modified Jazz. £220 and it`s got everything you could want or need. Active pups, nice upgraded bridge and natural finish that looks cool! Anyone got any pic`s of their own models? I`m seriously thinking about getting one myself
