if you warm up the bobbin with a hair dryer you can gently move the poles down dont do this at home.....no seriously i wouldnt do this but this is what was advised to me the raised polepieces are for a reason....you are fortunate to have them on a jazz a precision doesnt need them i have a raised A on my 51P its all in the design and compensation for the fretboard radius...bridges are made to compensate for this as well it plays ok..just stop worrying about it...the pups with the level poles are at a disadvantage regarding setting pup height

its cool i wonder if there is a shuker equivalent
Errrr.. first believe in God.... I wasn't aware that 'Gospel' had to be a style anymore. I thought it was about content not genres and that you can have Christian folk music, Christian Metal, Christian Funk, Christian Bale (oops! What is he doing in here).... I always think of 'Gospel' as an attitude not a genre. What do I know? Heathen bustard....
gospel..the good news.. god spel i played christian worship bands from 1991 to today its all gospel...some folks just sing..some jive...the song is the same the chords are the same its in the interpretation and the spirit its played in amazing grace (1779) is gospel ...if you play it that way and its just as fresh and the words still have meaning what is termed gospel sometimes is negro spiritual...completely different imho..
I've recently discovered that my thumb bass has a buzzing 6th fret on the E string. I no this doesn't effect the sound though that amp or anything, but this is an 88 thumb in mint condition (no dings or nothing). Is there anything i will be able to do to get rid of this most annoying buzz? Or is it something i will just have to live with? I haven't posted on here for months. I hope everyone is ok Cheers
is it slack or is it the E string needing adjustment via the truss or saddle...buzz on open E?

just be prepared for a not so good fit...but really if the bolts hold it what is the diff you may have to do some wood cutting as well my P/J wasnt a terrifically good fit...but i do not believe that any tightness would have made any real difference to my sound via my combo
-
paint will discolour and scratch natural wood will...age and gain character dings are easier to deal with ps i dont have a wooden car..or is that heart...sorry elvis
-
it does wear off...i think its post production of the strings and could be removed in the factory but would add cost
Well, I can't 'try before I buy' because the pickups need to be put in the bass first and I don't have any spare ones lying around and I can't borrow any and solder them in. The only basses that seem to have them in already are Spectors and Metal basses. Yes, I've tried other amps and I'm still looking for something more agreeable to my ears. I originally heard the EMG Hz's in a cheap bass and they sounded pretty good. However, in mine, the John East pre seems to bring out the 'quack' quality - the sound you hear when you lift your finger from the string.
i would vote you concentrate on perhaps fine tuning the east beast i use a sansamp bddi and like the warm tone..but mainly you can dial out the skiffle effect by using the prescence knob sorry i was a bit offhand but emg actives...for me ..are like scraping your fingernails down a blackboard....no thanks i have had them and tried my best but they are to alive for me
I"ve just been online looking at basses and found a shedload of different colours. What is everyones idea of a nice colour for a bass and is there any colours you would stay away from. Personally i hate the colour black, its boring and looks awful, i also cant stand black or white(brilliant white that is ). My ideal colour would be "wine red" with an antique white pickguard and all maple neck. Be interesting to know what other people think
white off white natural but not glossy sunburst in the reddy shade as in my shuker 51P special
I've used one of the Ritter bags for 3 or so years now and it has never let me down. Not exactly sure which model it is, but it was the most expensive one in the guitar shop, with the most padding and a little velcro strap inside it to secure the neck. +1 for Ritter!
yes..get the super padded one...they do various grades

whatever fits if you havent tried EMG actives...try before you buy...imho they are the pup equivalent of marmite without correct eq being fitted..EMG preferably have you tried other amps/combo's...i think most pups go in the bin unjustly

i have tried and i am a worse singer than bass player so i have backed the right horse and let others sing...
Here we have a loved but hardly used "Rickenbacker" copy by Indie. I've always thought they're georgeous looking instruments, but as I play mainly gospel the tone doesn't really suit me. £499 new. Hardly used. Welcoming offers at the £400 ballpark.
i started out my gospel career on a rick having been advised to get one from another worship band bassist...on a rick as i didnt find the rick a well designed bass and not comfortable to play i went to other makes etc what about the rick dont you find not suited to gospel...they can be tamed you know...neck pup only and using a bddi whats your main music just now.. cheers geof

i used my bddi on the return socket and fed my bass into it in effect i left the input sockets on the combo free for any other inputs why...well i didnt want my bddi to go through the preamp...so the drum thingy has to have some welly to do the job if oyu are using the return blending of course will help

i thought those little clips could be fixed across the batts then the wiring is done like parallel on a humbucker so forming a compact block of batteries and maybe wouldnt fit in the body...?
Thanks for that Mr.Crow. Ahpook, the plug overheatted.
we had the fire department in our home doing a safety check one item which causes most domestic fires is a charger left in a socket..turned on ..and nothing in the other end of the cable example..mobile phone chargers left on you may have escaped an unfortunate incident we got a free smoke alarm..
it's flynn amps, just behind cc music off great western road. if there's no call tomorrow there shall be blood, but not whilst they've still got my amp!!! i should point out that when i spoke to them the 3rd time i agreed for them to go ahead with the filter capacitor swap.
i see where they are..not that that matters..i used to work at woodside place.. one solution is to mention this forum and how they could be in line for more work and good feedback if they were to resolve their difficulties with their supplier...and you toot sweet...thats parliamo glesca for atft best of luck again

one i tell is my playing 11 nights and a matinee at carnegie hall..i was on alto sax carnegie hall dunfermline the show..no no nanette audience around 20 a night and 50 on the matinee... just a silly one but my really top occassion was to play oboe with the snowdon orchestra in stirling doing zadok the priest we practiced as an orchestra for weeks for the introduction and parts of the work the last rehearsal was with the choir... we got to the end of the introductory passage and usually we all stopped there and had a cuppa...but since the choir was there we carried on correctly into the work i was blasted away by them sitting behind me ...full force opening volume why am i telling you this...because it is the most impressionalbe occasion i have ever had nothing to report on bass i am afraid
