1. i dont know how many as i tend to make up basslines to each song...even the same one again so all i know are sets of 'chord shapes' some songs have their own special chord progression but most...thankfully are 3-4 chords in the same regime so i can concentrate on rhythm...some melodic and harmonic riffing and fills...i used to play saxes so my answer is 0
 2. phantom of the opera opening overture
 3.
What are the pros & cons of brass Vs aluminium in bass bridge manufacture. I was wondering what the audiable difference is, if any. Sorry if someone's asked this before. Thanks, H&R
brass is dense and easy to machine aluminium and more likely an alloy can suffer easily from certain metallurgical faults..precipitations not imho a good candidate for a bridge...to light as well the real solution is to go through body...then the bridge is just a mechanical height setting and intonation function the strings being solidly anchored in wood...one wood hope
 4. the little screw on the end is used to set to lock the tuner rotation..or prevent it turning back perhaps if this is removed the tuning knob could be removed and replaced i think it would leave the main body still in the headstock the tuner looks like a schaller
 5. regarding the electrical supply hum i would advise checking out the hum problem when plugged into various sockets in a venue..various venues its my thinking that most of that hum is airborne as well as coming from radio... and god knows what else is going through our brains..waves and finally the effects of fluorescent tube lighting the scratchplate on a P should have a foil strip where the pots fix..on the underside...and any body earthing points suitably attached...certain paints act as a shield and are designed to do so...my amxn P/J had that paint
 6.
Not yet, pick ups arrive next week, i am just kinda pre-empting it arrive, trying to judge others opinions first.. tho i am needing to purchase the rest of the set up first.
i have the T shirt for that route i would say a bridge may be in order first if not through body strung give the pups a chance and use the preamp/eq to do the talking...volume really comes after that control strings will give some latitude for style and ease of playing...you fretting hand pressure etc finally...dont look in the mirror till you can play the thing with your eyes shut!!...splts are money suckers

 15. strip off all the earth wiring take off the bridge and make sure the wire is actually touching it re wire the earths from the pups pots etc to the jack by wiring them to a common..daisy..pot pup earth to tone pot vol pot earth to tone pot bridge to tone pot tone pot to jack crank her up and then check out the hum...if its still there then it could be...as it was for my P hum from central heating pump, fluorescent lighting and multiple earths into a single socket i have never used shielding and have had quiet basses...erm..i did get a french radio station on my combo without the bass attached
 16. i rate worthwhile holidays at around £100 a day so i voted you a hefty 450 tab since you have to pay flights this should include all meals..full board and some excursions and of course the fees of the pro's enjoy
 17.
I recall reading a seemingly throwaway comment on Talkbass a while back which went something like this: "[blah blah blah], which is why five string is the new standard for bass guitar." Has there been a shift towards 5 strings to such an extent that playing 4 strings equates to being old fashioned? What do you people think? Do you play "the new standard" or not? Does the author of the aforementioned comment have too strong a bond to modern metal music, and perhaps sees this music as standard?
i think the 4 is the one...its similar to the upright bass and can cover quite a few notes if you need to go lower...and you can reproduce the notes...then a 5 is acceptable...but not just for looks i had a 5 and only used it for fretted E and the low D i think its a bit of a extra type of instrument
 18.
I"m ready to start on my first bass project, i"ve just got a p bass wiring kit from axesrus and im a bit confused as to which pot is which as their identicle. Does it matter which i use for the vol and tone etc or is it all down to the wiring. cheers mick
the pots should be the same so that life is simple.....they only do a job of routing signals the wiring to each will differ however so that the signal is routed properly good luck...and the P is the simplest...
 19.
but the ebay prices are stupid i may end up with a sub/vintage/olp
i once had a mm5 and let it go for...well we all know that old chestnut bump
 20.
my thoughts exactly, must have been a nightmare trying to get all those strings back in their packets too...
oooeeeh you got me on that one, mussky
 21. height affects output...both low and high the pup is optimised for a piece of moving carbon steel around 1/8 above it....guesswork here as for tone.. certain frequencies could be attenuated more than others especially harmonics giving an apparent thinning of tone...guesswork your guess is as good as mine
 22.
I have just spent some quality time with my Bolin NS5 trying different strings. 4 sets. With Sperzel locking machines - no problemo. Old set off, new set on in about 3 mins flat. They are the future.
whats the problem with the original wheel...and whats the rush
 23. but the ebay prices are stupid i may end up with a sub/vintage/olp
 24.
This is probably a stupid question, but what should I use to clean a matt finish bass? Should I treat it the same as a non varnished bass? Im just worried if cleaning fluids can permeate the paint its finished with.
clean is the clue word use clean water with a lint free cloth...soft polish the surface gently and use a further dry lint free cloth to take out any water streaks adding just a drop of wash up to the water will help remove any surface detritous..do you like that word i favour those microfibre cloths for anything...they are soft and washable i use them on the car, pc, laptop and bass, guitar etc cheers
