Hi there, I’m not very comfortable with the truss rod thing, so I need some wise advise My bass is a Fender PB ’57 reissue (Japan) and the neck is far too curved. I already made a try, and turned the screw clockwise with a phillips screwdriver, at the end of the neck where the screw of the truss rod is. And it didn’t seem to work. Maybe it got the thing even worse, I’m not sure (did I already say I’m not feeling comfortable with truss rods?). So, does someone know if the truss rod on that specific bass has to be adjusted a different way than the majority, I mean, in this case, do I have to turn the screw counterclockwise in order to straighten the neck? Thx for your help!
seems you are turning it the right way...clockwise looking on the end of the screw..any end of the neck should flatten didnt know a phillips screwdriver did the trick are you sure its turning ok...thought it would be an allen key
I'm certainly no expert but I'd assume a dark wood filler would be your best bet. I'm not sure how you'd get the black finish even though without sanding around the filled in hole and repsraying. http://terrydownsmusic.com/technotes/pickg...le_drilling.htm That shows some holes being filled in. Unibond and pollyfiller would probably leave a chalky/plasterlike finish which would be pretty noticable.
i filled some hols where my ashtray was...with those little plugs you get with kitchen diy flatpack kits may be not quite suitable..they looked ok but werent flush with the body
Mate, either@ Leave the tone pot there and just wire in the volume pot (bear in mind there will be a difference in tone with the tone pot out of the loop), or Take out the tone pot and aply a bit of tape the same colour as the pickguard to cover the hole. Waste of money buying a new one Chris
exactly...i thought this with one of those plastic plugs you get in kitchen cabinet kits to plug the hole where the tone pot was regarding sound...the scratchplate with or without hole wont affect it be cool

Bass Lines that everyone plays different
mrcrow replied to ironside1966's topic in General Discussion
i play music which doesnt have fixed basslines...just chords so all my basslines are different even in the same song next verse etc -
on amazon at £99 i havent had an electro/acoustic but from what i have been told...playing acoustically is really not a good option against other amplified instruments so what might be the real consideration is the sound via the electro part...this could be the let down from what i have learnt the better acoustics are more highly priced to get good sound from them and i suspect the electrics equally are of a better quality good luck and WELCOME!!..musnt forget our manners cheers

they are lookalike gimmicks which retro freaks like to have they add weight and get in the way

I don't think I've ever seen a bass as beautiful as this.
They don't use solder now it's IDC Insulation displacement connector. Basically you push the wire into a V shaped groove, that cuts through the insulation to make the connection. I moved onto fibre optics, not much soldering there either. To answer the OP, not much cost at all, probably just someones time.
yes i have those little v connectors in my hallway box...you need a tool to force the wire in hell..what does the current know about solder anyway i have seen conducting glue online and have been mentioning it here...so i wondered if it really was used a lot just to connect to pots etc...no mechanical fixings cheers
Out of the box, my OLP Tony Levin was a nice bass straight away. It played well, had loads of bottom end, but just lacked a little top end sparkle. Compared to my Musicman Stingray the build quality wasn't brilliant in some places, but for the price I was very happy. Then I gigged it. Again, nice playability although the strings are a bit close together at the nut for comfortable slapping, but I adapted to that no problem. The big issues were 1: a horrendously cut nut, 2: an awful hissy treble pot, and 3: the lack of top end. So I decided to pimp it, because the EQ was pretty poor, and I couldn't live with that pathetic nut, I did the following; Nordstrand 5.2 pickup, John East 3 band EQ, Brass nut, Musicman battery box (the OLP one was terrible), 3 way switch fitted. It cost a bomb to do, but as I've said in other threads, the bass was a gift from the Mrs, so I don't mind. The Nordstrand was a luxury rather than a necessity, but the other upgrades were vital IMO. Having said that, the Nordstrand has transformed the tone immeasurably.
thats nice...and good work done well..

free from me if you live in manchester dont know about other BC'ers but if you have a local music shop and frequent it...some coffee money would probably do them imagine charging a lot just to solder a wire for a bass guy
And what difference did these mods make over the stock parts?
i wired them in ignorance series...so the sound was softer and fuller my friend who introduced me to rickenbacker said they sounded cool but his sound was so clanky i think he meant...wimpy i replaced them with the standard pups and was so amazed with the more focussed and tight sound of the ric but i prefer 'cool' softish attack and the s-d's were humbuckers so were very quiet hope that help big B.. ps i saw lemmy had them or an array of them on his rick at one time in 1991..thats when i put them on cheers
As a fairly new BC member, forgive me if this has been discussed before, but how many of you read music? Do the one's that don't feel it's hindered you? I can't read a note.
not all intuitive musicians can read many many musicians can however because its a way of communications...language i would advise learning some bassic theory and perhaps in the process how to read...probably bass clef it will take some time so do it as a side thing not to bust up your playing enjoyment i learnt to read and did some theory when i started clarinet at 25...i would say after about 2-3 years i could get along ok reading music has to be done in conjunction with an instrument and the type of music you will play i was orchestral and big band so i had to learn loads of technical things as well you wont regret it if you do learn..it can be of great reward
