For what you need, a Stingray would be perfect.
i couldnt really second that as i have only had one 5-er... except that a stingray is bloody out there on tone build and finish with the 3 band at your fingertips you dont need to touch your head or preamp and bearing in mind this is a 'mass produced' bass its a classic and industry standard 5 for the money...if you can fork up you wont loose i bought a s/h at 700 and it went for around 800 2 years later take care of it and treat it well and it will be a good friend and bass cheers geof
huh? Well, my point was whether to use a rosin core 60/40 or a lead free solder for stuff like connecting pups to the pots and onnecting the jump wires to the bobbin wire etc...
you can use glue if you dont want to solder and if you do...solder is solder...40/60 is not a prerequisite only a suggestion
Hello one and all! I've got a 4003 and I am contemplating upgrading the bridge! Now I know Hipshot do one in Aluminium and Brass, but are there any other bridges that will retro fit in a similar fashion?! Any suggestions?! Any help will be gratefully received. Thanks Tim
not a great suggestion but a practical one i put a badass II on my rick so i could intonate it and get a better control over action without being houdini you need a mask to cover the front part of the rout though... it doesnt look all that bad
Sorry for hijacking but Im thinking about making my own jazz pups and was wondering what kind of solder do people use. stew mac recomends the rosin core 60/40 which has lead and is probably illegal in the UK. Any alternatives or should I go for the brain damaging one...
why do you think the 60/40 is recommended doesnt the solder act as a electical conductor some pc circuits are joined with conducting glue if you need a mechanical joint then maybe one would need solder electrical integrity is normall all that is required and lots of solder is not

your gold isnt gold but plating of some sort...you may have to live with the tarnishing or have the stuff reworked to add a gold finish which is expensive once you get everthing clean...use wash up and a toothbrush and then some meths afterwards..if everything works ok that could be your best scenario unless you replace them

MIA Jazz - String / P-Up poles aligment?
mrcrow replied to M-Bass-M's topic in Repairs and Technical
you can improve that spacing by moving the saddles...go for spacing on the bridge pup for setting the neck will take care of itself a different bridge will cure it and make setting more certain and robust -
I done a quick search in here and couldn't find anything, I hope this is the right section aswell. Last month i decided to start modding basses out of boredom, to get me through a boring winter. Anyway, i've decided after doing pretty boring things so far (LED fretboard, de fretting, building a neck) that i'd try and make a pickup. I bought myself 10 neodymium magnets and 75 metres of .50 copper wire.
is your copper wire coated with insulated material...sprayed laquer
have a look at some bach, there is a thread on here somewhere with a url to a website where you can download many scores free
the inventions are good but usually require two instruments mozarts air on a g string...castella ad...is a good bassline slow movements from symphonies and piano concerto adagio sections simpler the better so that sonority and dynamic is more important than chops
Thanks, but would need a bit more info to find these as I'm not familiar with the titles. Who are these by ?
summertime is by george and ira gershwin girl is by tom jobin a train and satin doll are duke ellington numbers i have googled for the sheet music but cant find a site which will give full piano score without buying it musicnotes is good but they only give a taster all of the above are simple tunes summertime is a negro blues girl is bossa nove dukes stuff is timeless and flexible jazz will post any further info the reason i offered them is because thats the music i like and doesnt need a hard drum tempo to carry it along its melodic and full of emotion
hi people, im in a predicament, Ive sold both my 4s got my warwick dolphin 5 Which im selling. But i got my sei six that i swapped with my thumb six and my shuker 6 fretless that i got for a lovely 600.00. I want a bass made but am struggling to warrant the cost. I love my sei six and just had a shack put into it it fits me like a glove i cant fault it and i dont play my others (thats why im selling them)since i swapped it. Bought my fretles shuker on a whim!!!!! i love it and am planning to get lessons and start maybe a few jazz jams. now when i bought the shuker the guy i got it from said to me there is nothing like having a bass made for you... but there are so many nice basses for decent dough im struggling to warrant buying a new one. i played a sei jazz in the gallery the other day and it was sweet very sweet and i could have it for 1500, or any ones on here, still have my sei six, shuker six and save up and get a 4 string later next year. Any ideas guys and girls and us undeciseve ones!!! and ps kindest regards to all who have contacted me regarding my posts. regards Ziggy/john.
Jon Shuker will be doing a second hand Shuker page shortly on his website...thats where to go for a decent second hand regarding a new one my take is...its too new and you might scratch it etc a played in good custom is still a good custom and you save 20-30%, depending on original price, into the bargain

i have noticed if i take off the strings for any work on the bass they sound brighter for a bit when i put them back on this leads me to think that coiling and coiling them several times with the application of a string cleaner may help to ease out dirt, sweat and skin cells string coatings imho are a step forward but i have seen elixirs exhibiting breakdown in the coating on the well rubbed fretted section maybe trapping sweat etc in boiling i feel is a no way situation with water just dying to corrode the wraps and core better with an inert light cleaner with lubricating qualities...i havent tried fast fret...but coud asssume meths would do the job what is generall known as trike was a favourite for cleaning engine parts when i used to spend my life doing bike engines. just a thought TRIKE
I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what sort of commission rates UK stores charge for the sale of instruments on consignment. I made an enquiry today with a fairly well known store, and was a bit shocked when the rate came back at something like 35% of the sale price!! Is that typical?
15% tops, mark if they want more then one needs to gross the selling price or say goodbye to them
