I shan't be dropping lower than that though as it's a storming bass and I'd rather keep as a spare! Cheers, James
saw it on ebay and raised a Q here on what kind of bass it was cheers mrcrow

 9.
I'm pretty sure yours will back out. The Double-action truss rods work as two threaded rods which work against each other. The tensioning nut is welded to the end of one of the rods......as in my Cirrus!!! I got round it by drilling a small hole & screwing a self-tapping stainless steel screw into it. G
i think that type is on my shuker...one rod goes into tension and the other into compression?? i have looked at a lot of sites at these rods and still find them a mystery
 10.
hipshot bridge on its way, should be here next week, but not going to put it on just yet as we have a busy couple of months giging
well i put a badass II on mine and did a little masking piece in white splt material as you have done it made setting up a whole lot easier and more accurate the rick bridge is a blacksmiths dream wish i still had it though with ALL its drawbacks and ugliness
 11. with through body you can get away with leo's BPOM..the body does the work for face mounting my choice was badass II and it did open up the A string and enhanced harmonics overall and woke up the dead spot on the G string fretted D on a fender P its a lump of metal and does what it says on the tin without frills you have to groove it for your string spacing but thats no problem there is a faq i think for badass on this forum my other non standard bridge was a schaller roller bridge..fine design with an eye to aesthetics and the rollers let you adjust the string widths at any time...the roller doesnt give a hard witness point but in that sense wont eat into your windings there are many more which i like but havent tried...and i think the warwick idea with separate tailpiece and drop in string mounts is quite practical...makes fitting strings easier with not having to pull them through almost frustrating hole sizes for the E my present bass has a schaller string through design and saddles which are designed for early fender neck radii the middle two saddle adjusting screws are longer than the outside ones good luck and hope you settle on something soon http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=193
 12. my led on my combo goes occasionally i slip out the head amp and solder in a new one after switching off the power you can get little led's at radioshack etc its not a big or tech job like checking out a board or transformer
 13.
Kinell, mate, I thought my numbers would be too heavy for most! Spoof thread? Not really, though it neither surprised nor annoyed me than some thought it was. I'm the sort of person who likes to measure/quantify an issue or problem and I have been genuinely struck by how much heavier an 11lb Roscoe Beck feels than a 9lb Shuker. Two pounds really isn't that much (bag of sugar, anyone?), so I was curious as to why it felt so different. I take your point about the weight and momentum of the shoulders, but for these purposes I'll disregard it. This is the same as my assumption that my shoulders "don't notice" the first 5lbs of weight added. The muscles and tendons already compensate for those values, and I suspect that this is why the perceived weight ramps up so quickly.
cool...you have it really taped up sorry about the spoof thing...talk about a trainwreck... seriously i do think there may be a point where the shoulders start to 'notice' weight and then feel the over burden signal to the brain so your assessment is that 3.5lbs is really not noticeable and anything over that is more noticeable in ratio so a 7 lb bass feels like 3.5 on the 'richtershoulder' scale and an 11 lb bass feels like 7.5 good analagy you have put up and i go along with it it all boils down to the threshold where weight begins to be obtrusive and could vary from person to person like those guys who wear T shirts in the middle of winter and i am happed up with 5 layers
 14.
Please explain. Assuming that's a serious comment (I really can't tell), I don't follow.
i thought this was a bit of a spoof thread but i can explain your shoulders are part of the mechanism/structure and so have inherent weight dynamic calculations should include this when you play you move all mass is subject to newtonian principles in motion so your shoulders/strap/hands/cable etc are all in a sense contributing elements in any calculation for live loading the formulae are f=mv and P= mv^2/2g for momentum centripetal force vectors not included to round off i think a more comfortable strap can make a difference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momentum yours guess i should lighten up a bit...
 15. passive...no battery activated.. passive pup feeding through an onboard preamp with eq active...as in emg...active preamp in the pup...eq can be either a tone cut 0.100 for emg or separate tone pot from emg run off the battery giving 2 or three band eq. i think active should be classified really on the signal attributes passive = no batt active = batt and altered signal characteristics
 16.
too late i guess but it could be your earths on the pots arent earthing...that is what takes the signal to zero
or an earth has come detached...dry joint etc
 17. info about ebanol (http://www.chemblink.com/products/67801-20-1.htm) they started doing clarinets in this type of polymer with success due to the cost and availablity of grenadilla ebony for the bass i would guess its a aquisition and machineability plus exercise the polymers dont shrink or crack and dont need maintenance bassoons are made now of polymers
 18. you havent factored in the weight of your shoulders in that its quite relevant
 19. you are a brave man..i had dots on all the 'frets' and if i ever get courage enough to use a fretless it will have to be lined cheers
 20.
The singer in the band I'm in is really keen on band image, getting us all along for photoshoots, and having some kind of consistent "look" from the band. In fact, after our last gig I got some stick for wearing jeans (which apparently she really hates). I have always really hated looking smart, and I seem to have got stuck in an indie/grunge time-warp so maybe she has a point, but I do find it all intensely irritating.. I would rather just play music and forget about all this photography/video/costume kind of crap. So, what do people here think? Is band image that important (you have to bear in mind that although we are gigging, none of us is particularly fantastic musically in my opinion).. Do I need to bite the bullet and go out and get that red shirt and jacket (or whatever ridiculous get-up is planned), or is it OK to just look scruffy? - at least until we get that record deal ( i.e. never !!! ) James
you tried the scruffy bit why not try the 'uniform angle' this could be merely a band name T shirt and some cool chinos..no white trainers!! most bands i see...older set...are black shirts and trousers...sort of orchestral get up but casual when you eventually all get your V8 range rovers make sure they are black as well...
 21.
Pine dipping fluid is a bit harsh for a bass, it tends to soften any glue in the door joints, so any glued 2/3 piece bodies would be in danger of separating. You could use a cabinet scraper to remove some of the finish (gently!!!) or pop to your local glass merchant and ask him to cut up an off cut (about 100x100mm) wet and dry will take the sharpness off 3 edges and corners to handle it and use the 4th edge as a cabinet scraper. He'll probably give you it for free out of his scrap bin. Andy
cheers andy didnt know the pine stuff was so harsh...
