1.
Ancient thread I give thee life once again..........Hartke Bass Attack Preamp has a suggested setting called Schism - sounds very close
I honestly think if the Attack wasn't so huge (and dare I say was released by a company better known for effects) it would outsell a lot of other pre pedals. I really liked mine when I had it. Sold to try other things. Might get another if I ever go back to a pedaltrain Jr, but I'm all about fitting things on my PT mini (or using my b3) at the minute.
 2. Behringer X Air series look to be a good deal for what you're after - you don't state what your budget is, but the X18 and XR18 both have 6 aux sends, XR16 has 4, XR12 has 2. All can be controlled remotely via wifi and iOS, Android, PC, Mac, etc so control over monitor mixes using an app on your phone. If it's just for rehearsal perhaps you could also consider the jamhub? May look a bit mickey mouse, but would work. Even better if you had E-drums/V-drums. These are the solutions I'm looking at myself.
 3. Added a comment to your question on the other thread so read that too, but I'll add more detail here about my mod. Be aware that this is a surface mount circuit, so if you haven't used a soldering iron before I suggest you give all of this a miss or find somebody who can do it for you. It was easy for me as I have ready access to an electronics lab and regularly solder components similar in size to a grain of sugar. I sh*t you not... First I put back the resistor I removed to start with (see original post) and placed a 10k resistor across C19 on the board instead (the 22n cap labelled C5 on the attached schematic). This is the notch mod from the youtube video, but I didn't want it switchable. Secondly I wanted to remove the midrange cut inherent in the design, but leave the low pass filtering (cab sim) around IC2A and IC2D in the schematic. R18, C15, C16 and R21 form an alternative version of a bridged-T notch filter (a bit about it at the bottom of this page: http://www.geofex.co...eqs/paramet.htm), so that's what I wanted to eliminate. I removed those 2 resistors and 2 caps. To save having to worry about biasing opamp IC2D I then connected the output from IC2A to the input of C14. I like this pedal much more now, but I'm considering buying another to do the youtube midrange mod on and perhaps a few other little tweaks (maybe the blend you're talking about!). Or maybe not - I have about a dozen pedal projects swirling around in my head at the minute! It's actually much more than the midrange you're fixing with that youtube mod. It's taking most of the cab simulated high end roll off out of the equation too. By the way you'll need to change the file extension of the attached schematic to .pdf to open it. An oddity with the forum software apparently!
 4. Technically you could put another blend pot in place of the switch (looking at the schematic while typing). The switch shorts out multiple filters in the circuit so you could blend between the filtered signal and the signal pre-filter.
 5.
I can definitely see red in the photo.
That's what I mean. Never seen a 3 tone version before myself.
 6. Do these have rolled fingerboard edges like the Fender Roadworn series?
 7. Or would I just be better not buying another retro 2x10, selling the one I have and plumping for a Super Twin or Big Twin 2 and using the Ashdown I already have?
 8. Great little amp! Missed mine so much I bought a CTM30... not accounting for the fact it's wider than the LB30 and drives my OCD mad sitting top of my narrow Barefaced cab!
 9.
There's a GK 2001 RB for sale on here. I'm pretty sure it can do 2 x 4 ohm cabs as it has 2 channels.
Yes, but it's over budget. Budget of £400 absolute max.
 10.
Orange themselves may have copied and pasted from an old valve manual (but one with built in D.I.) when creating their new manuals, but my posting was straight from the OTB500/1000 manual
I know, but what I mean is I think they copied it from the ad200b manual and pasted it into the OTB manual!
 11.
Would have suggested you get to hear one before making your mind up, but they're pretty thin on the ground, so can't imagine much chance of finding one in Ballymena!!
Virtually nil... I say that but you'd be surprised! Dingwalls, Genz Benz and Tecamp used to abound around here (as in I and Black Coffee have had some mighty gear in our time). I could even point you to the location of a pre-CBS P bass not 200 yards from my in-laws... And I know of a virtually unplayed 60s jazz in burgundy mist with matching headstock in the town. Somebody's little nestegg...
 12. No it would have to be in a horizontal configuration with the ABM, which is the same width as the retro cab! Same configuration with a hartke although it'd only overhang a little with the cabs vertical - just enough to annoy my dormant OCD like my Ashdown CTM30 does at the minute! With the Orange you could go either way.
 13.
Get Ashdown to make you an ABM2000 - it's got two 1000W class D power amps in it
Can't imagine Mr Gooday would part with one of those for 400 bills!
 14.
Each to their own - the only thing I would say in defence of the Carvin is that I've tried to lift a ABM900 and the Carvin is a feather in comparison. I imagine the Orange stuff is heavy too. I was going for compact and light (due to back problems) which is what sent me down that route. There doesn't seem to be many on BC that use Carvin amps (a very generalised sweeping comment based on my limited reading here), but I'm very happy with mine! EDIT: Good luck in your search - I'd be interested to hear what you do go for in the end.
Oh totally - wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same! Weight isn't a massive concern at the minute. But it would be weird to have an amp that weighs more than your cabs. As in weighs more than 2 retro 2x10s - only weight I can find for the ABM900 online is 28kg... the retros weigh 13kg!
Another very happy Carvin user, and having had the chance to use the Orange Terror a few times at jam nights I can honestly say I'd rate the Carvin way above it.
Horses for courses and all that!
 15.
Hi Bigwan, I remember we had chats about delivery times when we got our cabs! I used to run mine one per channel on my Ashdown LG1000. As they were obsolete, I was looking for another one second hand as a backup but couldn't find one. Merton and Eude of this parish pointed me to the Carvin and I couldn't be happier. I think it was a bit closer to £600 with delivery EDIT: I've just checked and it was £500 with delivery! It has a little switch on the back for selecting 2 or 4 ohm modes if you're like me and sometimes only use one cab. It is worth noting that Molan from Bass Gear told me they were giving up Carvin distribution when I bought mine, so not sure who is doing it in the UK now.
I remember our Barefaced chats! I would doubt I'd go for the Carvin I'm afraid. It may be on a level with anything else out there, but it's a case of better the devil you know. If I could get an Orange TB500/1000 or Ashdown ABM900 for the same (or less) money previous experience tells me I'd be happy with them, so the Carvin wouldn't get a look in!
 16.
I'd second the suggestion to use your existing amp (provided you're happy with it) to drive a PA power amp. Connect to the line out on your amp. Get one that can be bridged and it will drive the additional cab on its own. Cheap, too - I just picked up a Crown XLS 202 for £40 on the Bay. Ample power with 400w bridged into 8 ohms.
Hadn't really considered a power amp, but at that price I just might!
 17. All good suggestions folks. Keep em coming!
 18.
I used to have a Peavey Mk VI head which would run 2 ohms. Built like a tank and as reliable as gravity. For £400 there won't be much to choose from though.
You'd be surprised what £400 can buy you with all the rush to go lightweight! Orange terror and Hartke LH500 can be brand new for less than that. Last ABM900 I saw here was significantly cheaper again. Peavey is a good call, by the way!
 19.
Don't EBS run to 2 ohm? Then there's Ashdown. Some of their amps are 2x4ohm channels (though keep a fire extinguisher handy).
Also a good call on EBS, but I'd be interested to know if you're speaking from experience with regards Ashdown or just perpetuating a myth? I've had nothing but good experiences with my ABM.
 20.
It is much more than your budget, but the only amp I have used that runs at 2Ω is a Vanderkley Aurora.
Err yes, much more than my budget...
Hartke LH1000 will give you a massive bang for your buck and can drive two 4 ohm cabs as long as you can get on with the fender style tone stack EQ.
Good call! One to add to the list!
The Mesa Boogie D800 and several of the TC amps will go to 2 ohms.
D800 is over budget, TC Blacksmith will do 2 ohms but again over budget.
Have just re-read and yes, you already know! Apologies for the condescendingness!
No apology required!
 21. Purely speculative at this point, but if I wanted to add a second 4 ohm Barefaced retro 2x10, what amps are out there that could handle it? I know I could run the cabs in series for 8 ohms and ANY amp could handle it, but i need real welly here! Talking 500 watts and above. My fav amp of all time is the pre-EVO Ashdown ABM so top of my list of possibilities is the ABM900. Second favorite amp is the Orange Terror Bass, which I've owned twice, and it could handle the cabs in series for 500 watts at 8 ohms (there's also the rarer 1000 watt version that would do 900 watts at 8ohms). Can anyone suggest anything else? Budget would be under £400, new or used - I know Thomann still have some Orange TB500s in stock.
 22.
I was born in 78, so a YOB would probably be a musicman, but I don't tend to play 4 string basses anymore either. I don't think there were many 5 strings, in a modern layout by 1978.
If you'd consider a 4 string I would highly recommend a nice Ibanez Musician, particularly the MC800. I had the loan of one recently and it sounded fantastic.
 23. '77 here... And I'm sorted with Beedster's old Yamaha Pulser!
