1. Fender first then Jake I think. Second sounds more "modern" to me by a hair. Not much in it!
  2.
Aren't they MIM...?
The P-bass Deluxe Special IS MIM. This looks extremely similar... If I were the OP I'd be having a wee word with Mark at Bass Direct...
  3.
Looks like a Deluxe Active Precision Special to me, with upgraded bridge and pups.
I sold one of these recently. Other than the upgrades that's exactly what it looks like.

Sire Marcus Miller V7. Best money I've spent in a long long time. Hadn't heard much bad about them before, and now I have one I know why. A great bass at ANY money, but a total steal at the price. Like mine more and more every time I pick it up.
  5. I just bought a brand new Ashdown CTM30 for 300 quid delivered. A lucky find - listed on eBay Italy as B stock but had never been out of the box. This has no bearing on this thread, I just had to tell somebody! I notice the same seller has another listed...
  6. I would usually agree about CC, but last time I was in the Belfast store they had an SWR Triad for £135... They also had a Workingmans 15 combo for a pretty reasonable £199.
  7.
Well one of the 23 made it to Sligo My main bass for most of my electric gigs, seriously great instrument in every way, sweet neck and action and the combination of Fralins and the East pre gives huge tonal range... to be honest the passive setting is so nice I rarely use the pre-amp... I'd nearly buy a second just to have it...
I actually took the east pre out of mine and dropped a standard jazz plate in, but then I don't do active basses much! I'll stop derailing now...
  8.
... and how many of them in the north of Ireland?
3 at one time I believe! Mine went to Arbroath where it knocked a Sadowsky Metro off its number 1 spot! Edit: Just to pass on the story, what I was told was there were to be 24 of these custom ordered DPLE JOs, but when they got to Lakland US from the Cort factory in Korea, one of the basses weighed in excess of 12lbs. Dan Lakin wouldn't release it and, as luck would have it, somebody on the DPLE waiting list (whatever happened to the dude pit?) decided not to go through with the purchase, so everybody was happy in the end.
  9. Brilliant, brilliant basses these. Owned one for a number of years. And only 23 in existence (going by the story I was told! Could be wrong though)!
  10. If only I were closer...
  11.
Last night I played a gig at a new venue in town, where the backline is provided. For bass they had a Bass Terror 500 head into a 410 (don't know the model). It sounded pretty good! Pretty pretty pretty good! I wish I had had the chance to properly try it, its range, etc... but it's now on my radar. However when looking for reviews etc, I got the feeling there is (or was?) a reliability issue with them. Or some of them. It looks like there's a lot of love for these amps. It didn't give me the impression that it was shy on volume, although clean volume might be another matter (I do like a bit of dirt, and I mean a bit, just a hair)... Has anybody had the chance to compare the 500 to the 1000? Are they similar tonally? And volume-wise, is there much between them?
I've owned 2 of the 500 variety and can't imagine anybody needing more volume! Tonally it is a one trick pony with little variation available from the eq, but it's such a good trick I had no problem using it on both heavy metal and wedding gigs. I never bothered with the valve change, just ran the gain around 9 o'clock all the time for a bit of hair on the note. If I were gigging at the minute I'd have another in a heartbeat.
  12. My rig in my metal band was an Orange Terror 500 (set quite clean - gain about 9 o'clock) into a Tech Soundsystems 4x12. Never had a better sounding rig. Used the same setup (albeit with a different bass) for a wedding/function band for a while without PA support and it covered the gig no problems, and in MUCH larger rooms than I would have played with the metal band. STUPID loud when required, even with the gain so low. I wouldn't necessarily say that you would want your sound squeaky clean for a heavy band - a little bit of grit can work wonders in helping bring the bass to the front in my experience (I've heard Nashville great Michael Rhodes describe it as a bit of fur around the note!) - but I wouldn't recommend full blown distortion except for effect.
  13. €799 and €1199 respectively from a quick google trawl. A bit pricey I think. Surprised they didn't go for a 100w version too, but I suppose you're into V4 territory then... Agree on the preamp - if they want to go old-school why not do it properly?
  14.
What have you ordered? PM if you'd prefer to avoid derailing this further haha
PM incoming!
  15.
Funnily enough my exact thought process when I saw it...
Cheaper than what I sold my LB30 for actually. Really looking forward to owning one again. We seem to tread a lot of the same ground, gear-wise! Still have your old ACG Recurve as it happens, but it'll have to go to pay for the new one I've just ordered!
  16.
Hahaha! From Italy perchance? Same shop I bought mine from Enjoy it, I love mine!
Indeed it was! Couldn't pass it up at the price!
  17.
Ashdown CTM30 with two Barefaced Super Compacts - much louder than you'd credit and frankly glorious
Like that rig a lot! Loved the LB30 I used to have... Might have to keep an eye out for another one! Edit: Merton, I'm holding you entirely responsible... Just ordered a b-stock ctm30 off eBay! Time to shred the credit card I think...
  18. As I said in the original sale thread, these things are AWESOME!
  19.
For me, it's the embarrassing prices pawn shops put on stuff that always good for a giggle.
Usually I'd agree...except I saw an SWR Triad and Workingman's 15 combo for 135 and 190 quid respectively in Cash Converters t'other day. Thought that was reasonable enough!
  20.
Maybe next year......
My current feelings also!
  21. Love the sound of this!
  22.
My new ACG will have two P pickups, but it's only in sliced tree form at the moment.
Likewise! Only just ordered mine, but alnico p in the neck, reverse ceramic p in the bridge position.
  23. Hmm... just looked at the pics on the Mesa site again and I do declare there's a break from the Mesa norm... Supply voltage of 100-240v! Ordering at $699 from that states with no worries about changing power supply transformers may be a possibility!!!
  24. Can't see 'em! Gone already?
  25.
Exactly what I was thinking. The feature set is almost exactly the same as the Streamliner. Only difference I can see is the mid control being predetermined, but usefully to set at high and low mid. Oh, and the missing bright blue LEDs that intermittently work on mine. Bet it's the same darn thing with tweaked eq and a different power section.
So, in fact, quite a different amp! Being 2-ohm capable has me very interested. Set on my Barefaced Retro 2x10 (4 ohm!), but would like to add another at some point.
