1. Yummy! Want! You were right with the 2-tone 'burst and black pickguard. Looks great!
2. Can't wait to see this!
3. Great pedal. Perfect for people who don't really like compressors, as well as some who do!
4. I was always an Elites Stainless Steel fan, but I have a set of Ernie Ball Cobalts on the P at the minute and they're fantastic. Might carry on with them depending how they wear.
5. It was a highly recommended rig around here a few years ago so bound to be somebody along with experience in a wee while!
6.
Goodness me! how much is the Wal worth now roughly? I'm assuming a 4 figure sum?
Sold it for £1450 about 8 years ago. Guy kept it for 2 weeks then sold it on eBay to some punter in the states for another 400 on top of that. Probably about 2 grands worth now at least. Was in bad nick when I got it, and not the most desirable top wood (padouk with sap wood), but sounded great! Miss it sometimes... Always on the lookout for serial number 2062!
7. Got a Wal for £550 about 13 years ago, just before they took a serious upswing in price. Wasn't a huge bargain at the time, but turned into one! Same local shop (which never has ANYTHING bass related in) had a pretty minty, all original, white, maple boarded '76 Jazz at the same time and same price... Should have bought it too!
8.
2tone chosen as I thought it would look cleaner with the black pickguard...... I think it will
Can't fault your reasoning! I think it'll look HOT! Been drooling over the shoreline gold Bebop 5 with blocks on the De Gier website for days now!
9. Not to derail the thread or anything but... Phwoar! Shwing! Hubba, hubba, etc
10. Looking good! Wasn't sure what I'd think of the 2 tone burst (bigger fan of that finish with maple boards), but it looks like it'll work well!
11. Limelight P bass, black, light relic, maple neck BUT with 2 Thunderbucker pickups, like a Lull PT4... Or maybe just a Lull PT4...
12.
^ This! My 5501 is my third attempt at five strings. I had a cheap perspex Wesley that I moved on quickly. Several years later, I bought an Ibanez SR405. I really wanted to like that one, but tight string spacing and a floppy B string meant it also had to go. (I'm comfortable on both P and J necks, but this felt like a guitar to me!) I recently bought a Lakland 5501 and it's simply wonderful. The fifth string is great, crystal clear and nice tension. The neck is quite chunky and the string spacing is similar to a P-bass. I can see why the 35 inch scale might be problematic for some, though it's fine for me. (My hands are pretty average sized too) Costs £699 new, but they do pop up on here used now and then.
I sold my 5501 with Bartolini NTMB preamp for £400 as the market was pretty slow at the time. There are bargains to be had! I preferred the 5501 to the 5502 dlx I had more recently. Neck is the same. It's sufficiently chunky to satisfy those that like 'proper' 5 string spacing, but it's assymetric so it doesn't feel TOO big. I believe they also have a compound fretboard radius, but I might be wrong on that.
13. I had one of these a few years back. Sounded pretty good but transport was a nightmare, especially if there was nobody to lend a hand! There are much lighter, better sounding and louder alternatives. I had a Tech Soundsystems 4x12 that ticked ALL those boxes!
14. I have no idea... If I had to guess I'd say 10, plus or minus a couple...
15. Maybe not the most obvious choice, but what about an Orange Terror bass? Can sound vintage and "tubey" with the gain low, or swap the valves for some lower gain ones for a more useful range of gain. One of my favorite amps. Some say they're tonally limited... but it's a good tone!
16. It would help if you listed what you've already tried and how big you're trying to scale up to. Maybe obvious, but why not go back to the Fender setup? I suspect I can guess why! I'd go with a trace V-type head (or pre and poweramp setup) into a sealed cab of some sort myself (or in my case a barefaced retro which is supposed to emulate something sealed).
17. May I be the first to say... Your choice of font is truly dreadful. Good luck with selling this beast though!
18. Lakland. No question. Best 5 string neck I've felt.
19. Love the look of De Gier basses. Not ENTIRELY sold on the headstock but I think it would grow on me!
20. If I didn't also have too much equipment I'd take this in a heartbeat... Can't believe it hasn't sold at this price...
21. The swamp thang is a very nice speaker. After much deliberation I put one in the D'lite combo I built for my brother a few years ago and it's perfect.
