1.
I think I want a Big Baby 2.
+1. Along with my Terror Bass I think I could get shot of everything else I have, rig-wise. I feel my credit card getting itchy again...
2. The original series Ashdown ABMs used those trannies I believe... Might be able to find one of those cheap enough. Or you could try and find a B&O icepower module if class d was of any interest to you.
3. The Detemple i posted earlier, as noted, has the bridge pickup in more a MM location than Jazz location. I thought it sounded spectacular in the Sklar video, so much so I've shelved my 60's p idea and am considering a Warmoth build. Chef over on "that other forum for bass talk" has a nice 5 string 51p style bass with a custom Nordstrand pickup set - a single coil p pickup in the neck and a fatstack at the bridge. Ash body, maple neck. Beautiful. There's a thread about the build over there somewhere...
4. I honestly hadn't noticed that... On closer inspection the bass side of the neck pocket could be tighter so it's possible the neck wasn't set absolutely correctly from the factory. Absolutely doesn't effect playability. String spacing is set as it came to me, but you're correct, it's as tight as it goes on this bridge (vintage threaded style) so there's scope to widen it if that was your preference (or line the string up better with the neck - wouldn't bother myself!).
5.
Can't believe it still here!
You and me both!
I'm playing mine and dam...it's the best jazz I ever had ! Bump for a great bass at a ridiculous price!
Agreed - played mine for half an hour earlier and I'm really starting to wonder if I'm doing the right thing...
6.
Yes the AB1 is a real beauty and a longterm keeper. I use it all the time except for our Fleetwood Mac tribute gigs. The Whalepool Blue Dingwall doesn't really go with the Flat Cap John McVie image!
Ahh why not? Sure McVie has played all sorts over the years!
7. I should add, no lowball PM offers will be entertained. This is already a bargain, if you don't agree then look elsewhere... Sorry, bad day...
8.
HaHa! well that just goes to show there aren't that many original ideas any more - especially in the world of bass guitars. Looks good, although the treble pickup should be a bit closer to the bridge and it should really be slab bodied for proper vintage effect. Otherwise, I'd go for one, even if it didn't sound so good - it's all about the pose
Different strokes I suppose. Sounds awesome in Sklar's hands. To be fair I don't think they're going for period correctness...
9. http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/Bigwan2062/Italia strap Brand new, unused Italia leather strap. 4" wide, 42" - 54" long. Really rich chocolate brown with medium brown (more tan really) backing. Beautiful straps. £25 posted within uk.
10. Will do Graham. Hope the Dingwall is still floating your boat mate!
11. Bump again. Is nothing selling these days?! Starting to think about keeping this...
12. Not funny when you have to explain it...
13. Kit without enclosure now gone. Can sell the other one without an enclosure if preferred. Note these kits include all the components required to build a functioning, true bypass tubescreamer pedal except a battery, knobs and (depending on your requirements) an enclosure.
14. If money's no object: http://www.detempleguitars.com/temp/CATALOG_ITEMS/DeTemple_P55_over.php Nice video of Lee Sklar playing one on DeTemple's youtube channel. Sounds awesome!
15. Hi guys, recently bought 2 pedalparts tubescreamer kits with the intention of modifying them into xotic rc boost and bb preamp pedals. As misfortune would have it, Poodle has now released kits for these and, as I haven't time to scratch myself these days, I'd probably be best building those rather than faffing around modding these. One kit comes with a 3 hole mxr sized enclosure, the other without an enclosure. £24 plus postage for kit with enclosure SOLD £16 plus postage for kit without enclosure. SOLD That's a tenner or more off new prices. Also have a few undrilled pedal enclosures that I could add to either kit. Hammond 1590B/BB equivalents by Eddystone (that's the standard mxr and larger mxr sizes for reference). £3 for a small one, £5 for a large one when included with either kit. Larger enclosure would be handy if you fancied modding the kit to make a fulltone bassdrive clone for example (although further components would be required). Kits are sold as they arrived from pedalparts. Build instructions are not included but can be downloaded from pedalparts website (http://pedalparts.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/ToobScreamer.pdf). I offer no technical assistance whatsoever I'm afraid!
16. Guesstimate was a little off - 10 1/2 pounds using the highly scientific "weigh yourself with and without bass" method. Honestly thought it was lighter - hooray for Italia 4" wide leather straps!
17. I'll weigh it tonight. I'd guesstimate it's about 9 1/2 pounds but I'll confirm.
18. Recently acquired Lakland Skyline 55-64 in sunburst with mint guard for sale/trade. Excellent 35" scale 5 string p bass. Weight is 10 1/2 pounds. Bought from Drew at Manchester bass lounge a month ago (excellent chap he is too - highly recommended), but I've since acquired a 55-02 deluxe in trade which will cover all my 5 string needs. I'd like to get hold of a 57/62 spec p bass instead of a 5 string which is the only reason this is going. Sounds like a p bass should with a very nice action - I took a punt on this having major reservations that the Indonesian Skylines could keep up with the Korean ones which I've owned before, but both these Skylines are the newer manufactured ones and they're both excellent (the p bass has the edge on setup, but the 55-02 has it for flexibility). Condition is very good, with 2 scores on the body which would most likely polish out (difficult to photograph -one on lower body edge, one on back just beside string ferrules), and an impression in the headstock tip of the metal seam of the case it was shipped in. Hadn't actually noticed this before and it would bother me so i've dropped the price a little and I'll include postage to compensate. £500 plus postage with a very well used generic hard case. Will trade for a Roadworn 50's p bass in sunburst, but will consider other maple necked P basses. Also after a sansamp vt bass. 19. Soak overnight in meths. Works a treat. Used to boil them, but meths is better.
20. If you can find a box for shipping it I'd be very interested...
