1.
I can't believe that I haven't posted in this thread already.... Here's my smaller gig rig in action: (BTW not the Ampeg fridge)
I'm tempted to ask... Butt i won't...
2. I'm missing my 500 a little reading this. My Ashdown LB30 is doing a bang-up job in its place though! Just as an aside the plate voltage on these is 175v (from the schematic) so they don't run as starved as some other amps/pedals do.
3. Yes i can tell the difference (although i often mix up clanky Ricky with clanky P sounds). It's all personal taste really. I sway between P and J depending on the type of music i'm playing. Personally i could live out the rest of my days quite happily without hearing another 'ray, i prefer my bass sounds without the 'boinging spring' quality the 'ray has in abundance... I realise my opinion is not shared by the masses...
4.
PM´d
Responded Yannic
5. 3 Leaf Audio Proton for sale. Very nice, compact mutron-style filtern in great condition. I've carried out the decay mod that Spencer now has internally switchable on the newer version of this pedal (involved changing 1 resistor) and find it much more useable and natural sounding now. Will be sorry to see this go, but am building a meatball clone in my spare time which will hopefully cover all my filter bases (excuse the pun). With box and 3 leaf bag. £110 posted in UK. Cheers Ian
6. Yeah the oc2 + distortion sounds good. Not as struck with the markbass synth though!
7. Starting to talk myself into a vbass too... Don't know what has happened to me, i used to be such a plug and play purist!
8. Now that is a cool sounding wee box of tricks!
9. Confront and ask him to be straight with you. If it's as you suspect and he just can't be arsed then I'd be tempted to replace him. That sort of behaviour makes you all look like fools, and is hurting you financially. Alternatively your mate could just fill in, but I'm a bit more hardcore when it comes to people swinging the lead...
10.
For the sounds that you're after, it would be worth looking at the Roland VB system (the old one). Usually @ £300 or so. You can even play your Juno from it.
Not sure about that. I don't think the v bass does midi out. I think you need one of the roland guutar synths for that (vg20/vg33/vg55). Someone who knows more may be able to correct me though. Been sorely tempted by a v-bass myself recently. Was impressed by the one i played a few years ago.
11.
I considered this but the PCB was pretty well the full footprint of the pedal and everything including pots was surface mount so it's far from the easiest to rehouse.
I suspected as much. I'll have a rattle at reverse engineering it to scale it down a bit. Worth the trouble - it's a great sounding pedal.
12.
Yeah my Hyperdrive will be going soon for a pedal that isn't ridiculously big, would definitely be keeping it if it was smaller. The VU meter gets used mainly cause the LEDs crap and it's often the easiest way to tell if it's on. Also overall enclosure is built really solidly but the footswitches they use are pretty poor. Plenty of us have had to replace them.
Same boat here, but I'm going to see if I can rehouse mine in a smaller enclosure - although the PCB is probably too big to go in the one I'm thinking of, but there isn't an alternative pedal that I can think of that does the same job - some reverse engineering to reproduce the same circuit may be in order...
13. Sorry mate, my Ashdown LB rig acts as my (very pretty but very OTT!) practice amp.
14.
It'll come down to which they think will sell better in the end I expect
Well that's my point - i know there are plenty of folk here who wouldn't even try an ashdown pedal because they couldn't make room for it on their pedalboard...
15.
I can confirm that Behringer vs Hammer the hammer wins I was just hugely impressed by the build quality of them I also like the VU... It's a shiny thing
Lol!
16.
Agree with you on the VU meter, but they could make one about the size of a penny to put on smaller pedals if they so insist.
Ashdown already have a small(er) vu that they use on the class d amp they do, but even then i think it's probably surplus to requirements. Ashdown's comment on Facebook was that the VU was their trademark, which is a valid point if you're a marketing bod, but to me it's useless in practical terms, and waste of physical space on my pedalboard. Just seems like style is winning over substance...
17.
They are built like tanks on the otherhand. In a fight against a hammer I would honestly bet on the pedal
But how is that different from other pedals out there? And does it gave a bearing on the size of the pedal?
18. Yeah a nice compressor will do your job - sound like you, only the full fat, 4 star version! I bought my 3 leaf pwnzor specifically for this reason.
19. I had a similar rig until recently (still have my Tech 4x12). Bet this sounds MIGHTY!
20. I've been commenting on an Ashdown Facebook teaser photo for a mystery new product and was just wondering what everybody else here thought about their pedals - NOT about the quality of the effects per se, more about the form factor of their pedals. I find the inclusion of the VU meter a total waste, and the physical size of the pedals a bit at odds with what other manufacturers try to achieve (perhaps with the exception of EHX). Is Ashdown's insistance on sticking with their trademark VU meter (don't think it can even be considered a USP any more) doing their sales more harm than good? Personally I own 1 ashdown pedal (Lomenzo hyperdrive) and it's a royal pain that it takes up so much space when it doesn't need to (in fact it annoys me so much that I'm planning on rehousing the circuit in a NORMAL sized enclosure). Pedalboard space is at a premium for most people so I find it weird that one of the worlds leading bass related manufacturers seems a bit out of touch...
21. I'd played a few Sei basses (6 I think, all second hand) and a few Shukers when I was looking at a custom build and went with Shuker. Of the Seis I'd played there was only 1 I would have considered spending the second hand price for, let alone the new price and 12 month+ wait. Jon may be harder to deal with than Martin in some folks eyes (thinking of the optimistic build time quotes specifically), and there's no doubt that Martin produces some beautiful basses, they just didn't speak to me the same way. Top bloke Martin though, and I REALLY wanted to like his stuff (the flamboyant especially was my porn bass of choice as a younger lad). Having said all that I'd be tempted by an ACG nowadays. Alan makes some very nice looking basses (although I've yet to lay hands on one).
22. I think this is possibly the worst thread I've ever seen on Basschat...
