If they just want the look I'd have got myself a warmoth body/neck and tricked it out to look like the real thing buut sound the way i wanted if it were me... Compress/EQ and use the Orange/Barefaced would be my choice, especially since it's just for personal monitoring. Only way I'd ever consider an SVT stack is if i didn't have to carry it myself! Must be some band to have you spending that sort of £ on gear!

Other options could be bass collection or westone...

I wonder how much a neck reshape would cost? Probably more than you would have spare. Yamaha is a good bet - one of the BBN, BBG or BB series. Or what about Aria Pro II? They're a good solid bass, and the 4 string necks are nice and slim.

I bought a well used/damaged but playable Ibanez ATK700 for £150 a couple of years back. I Intended to refinish it and keep it as my MM sound bas, but i haven't touched it more than twice - if it fits the bill you can have it at that money + postage...

That's my point though - I've never played ANY bass where the strings feel more even across the fretboard.

It's not really a big step to be honest. I was a little sceptical, but it's totally true that you can just pick one up and play almost as normal. OK if you can't get on with a longer than 34" scale the 37" might be a step up, but I've never played more than a 35" and it feels easy enough - after all, most of the extra length to the string is at the bridge end keeping the fret angle pretty low towards the headstock. The string tension across the strings is pretty spot on - mine has a 95 gauge E, which I would NEVER play on a 34" scale! I'm a 105 man all the way! I'm super impressed and am trying to figure what body parts I can sell to order a super P... I've only had about 40 minutes MAX on my Afterburner...

Well my Dingwall arrived yesterday and I have to say so far I'm super impressed! I'm already GASing for a Super P though...

Slightly unrelated, but does anyone know if the EBS Classic 1x12 is front or rear ported?

I have an AB1 incoming and my wife's nephew is a Daniel... Surely I qualify? BTW Has everyone watched the Dingwall factory tour on youtube? It's a very interesting 20 minutes or so.

Ooh, combo... Ashdown Little Bastard Drophead. Deep breath before looking at the price though!!! Otherwise an Ampeg Fliptop, but that could end up even pricier than the drophead... The LB head and matching 1x12 do look very nice though if you're not 100% restricted to a combo, and cheaper than the drophead. I've built/modded a few valve amps in my time and this kind of project is something I'd love to build for myself in the future.

[/quote] No I was always happy with the sound. It was the raw volume I had an issue with. Not all watts are created equal. My current no.1 amp is the Terror Bass. Comparing it to Ashdown's 500 watt offerings and there is no comparison...

Maybe late to the game (some would say 'as usual') but I note from Ashdown's Facebook page that they have a 1kw ABM in the works with a 'digital' power section AND it's a proper 1000 watts into 4 ohms, unlike the next to useless ABM900 twin, non-bridgeable power amp arrangement. I'm interested to hear what it's like as my only real problems with my ABM amps were weight and (on occassion) they lacked a bit of oomph! I think perhaps the LB550 or 550 Dual Tube Spyder may be more up my street tone-wise now though...

I've seen a few instances online of people using an epiphone valve junior into a proper bass cab for low volume bass. I'd imagine that'd be quite dirty/middy/bass-light since the output transformer isn't rated for low frequency performance. Ashdown lb30 is the closest I would imagine.

Threads like this give me GAS... I had a Roscoe Beck V for a time and wonder now why I ever parted with it! Easily the most tonally flexible passive bass you can get and hard to find nowadays. Health to enjoy WoT! A search for one of these could be the excuse I need to do another wee gear cull...
