I'd ask if they planned to dock your wages if you couldn't make it one night... Sounds like a load of inpractical w*** to me. The fact this was agreed without you present show what they think about your say in the band. Compared to the bands achievements so far I'd say someone has ideas above their station - It's something that seems to happen quite a lot in my experience. Being challenged about your level of commitment is probably the only defence that could be mustered to your challenge of the policy's validity. You show your level of commitment every time you turn up with the travelling you're doing - you should remind them of that. This sort of thing ruins bands for me. If it were me I'd remind them that it's supposed to be fun, not a job (in most cases anyway) and say ta ta... Can't stand this sort of underhand w***ery. Reminds me too much of being at work!

I wouldn't have an Ashdown on your list until they've been proven reliable this time around - don't get me wrong, I still have 2 first series abms in the house, but IMO they aren't putting out the same quality they used to. As has been said already genz Benz should be on your list. I'd also add the orange terror if you like a bit of valvey goodness, but not if CLEAN 'clean' is where you're at. Try whatever you can...

I'd be forgetting about a 2x10 altogether if it were me. 2x15/4x12 would be my preference, although a good 2x12 would probably do ok. For maximum umph I'm in total agreement with Alex @ barefacedbass - don't mix driver sizes. My current metal band I could probably get away with a 4x10 as we only tune down to D and we aren't that heavy. Any lower and I'd be struggling to make a 4x10 (or 2 2x10s) work for me. Note: This is just for gigs without PA support and practise. Gigs with PA support you're usually at the venue/soundman's mercy as to how loud you can get on stage so it varies wildly in my experience.

A while back I spotted Dave... Thingy... From Jools' band playing a Dingwall Afterburner II 6 string. Very nice! Haven't seen him using his Fodera AJ 6 yet.

Salvation lies within: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/152267-tech-soundsystems-2x12-600watt-4ohm-neodynamic-cab-now-l400/page__hl__soundsystems__fromsearch__1 It'd be mine already if Mike would ship it!

Like the look of things so far, especially the mobile version. Only problem I'm having is that sometimes I can use the mobile site and sometimes it's the full site (iPhone 4). Any ideas why?

Only played one - a 4 string that the Gallery had the last time I was there, but really liked it, except for the hideous body colour! Nicest graphite neck I've played since it's a satin finish (don't know if that's standard though). Whether it's worth it to trade for your pedulla or not - only you casn decide that... I'd say yes, but each to their own.

I have a terror bass and currently have a Genz Benz Streamliner 600 on loan. On comparing them back and forward they are similar flavours, with the Orange being a bit more aggressive and the Genz being a bit more flexible (and a much nicer form factor than the Terror Bass if you ask me). You couldn't possibly need any more than a terror bass in the volume stakes or you'd be killing people in the front row with an efficient cab like the Barefaced! If I was buying again I might be tempted to go for the Streamliner, but since I already have the Terror Bass and it does all I want I'll not be changing it. I play hard rock/metal in the vein of Paradise Lost/Anathema/HIM/Katatonia with a P-bass straight in to the Terror Bass and mostly use my Tech Soundsystems cab. Killer rig!

Sorry the 55 isn't working for you Lee. If it's any consolation, I know what you mean - I'm a passive head too. There are a few guys on that American site who've done exactly what you're thinking about - installed passive soapbars and simple V/V/T controls and been very happy, but it'd probably work out the same to sell and get a JO5. This is a cracking bass folks (I sold it to Lee as I've moved away from 5 strings)...

I have one I'll be selling very soon. There are so many things about it I like, the look for one, but alas I can't get used to the feel of it (and as nipper number 1 is 3 months away and I have too many basses it classes as low hanging fruit). Also I'm a set and forget kind of guy at heart so the 4 band EQ is entirely lost on me. But I can totally understand the gushing...

What Fischer kit are you using Andy? Saw them on Thomann a while back...

Most I have spent was £1800 for a custom built bass. Wouldn't do that again, however I would be prepared to spend significantly more than that on a vintage P or J. I wouldn't go above a grand any more for anything else. I say that now...
-
I had one for a few years and can see the point of view of people who swear by them, but everyone's different and mine didn't speak to me the way my J and P basses have since, but it may just have been mine - It's the only one I've ever played. I also didn't need the flexibility the preamp offered - I'm set and forget. I definitely don't think they're worth the current pricetag, but that's just personal opinion based on my own experience. You never know though - I could play another one tomorrow and be willing to re-mortgage the house for it!
-
Both my ABMs are series 1, and I love them to bits. You're right, of course, that the ABM is more flexible, but I definitely wouldn't say it sounds more expensive or complex. I was blown away by the Orange the first time I plugged it in, but then it's each to their own, isn't it. Can't agree about the volume though. I've always found the ABM400's quiet.
-
Sound-wise I'm entirely happy with my current rig (Terror Bass into a Tech Soundsystems 4x12), however I wish I had 2 smaller cabs for transport purposes (physical size more than weight). If I could cut my Tech cab in half and use one or both of the resulting cabs as required then I'd be set...
I put in a bid on the off chance it may win, but really expecting it to be well and truly outbid. Felt like Christmas when I won it !! Let's just say it was under £500
Bugger! Bargain! -
A cheeky bid on e - bay for the RW sunburst sorted that one out ! now there are two
How cheeky, as a matter of interest? -
I refer you to my previous: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...7&hl=terror The Terror is louder and punchier in my experience. The ABM is more flexible, but I never used the flexibility myself. I ran the ABM with preamp all the way over to valve, EQ off, pre-shape on and gain to taste. The Terror set flat is VERY close (considering the passive EQ curve with all the controls straight up). Did I mention that it's LOUD!!!

Ha! I bought my first 5 string cos it looked cool! If you can get on with a 5 then go for it (you'll never know unless you try!) What bass is it anyway?

Oteil Burbridge is playing one of these with Derek Trucks in the Tedeschi Trucks band. Pretty good endorsement right there!
