I've gigged with a 75 watt 1x10 combo (Line6 studio 110), but that was with an electronic drum kit and full PA support. Wouldn't attempt it with an acoustic drum kit at all. Get a smaller cab and use your existing head would be my advice - or buy a handtruck and keep what you've got. You could go all around the houses and end up back where you started so try the simple solution first.

Strange how the snob thing rubs off on people too. I once had someone approach me after a gig to tell me how much he enjoyed the band, but that really I should try to save and buy a Fender. I just smiled knowingly and disregarded everything he'd just said. I was playing my Wal Custom at the time. I've heard other folks have similar experiences.

A refin'd '66 is the best I've played. $3.5k though. Played a few laklands but to be honest I found my Fender better.
-
This seems to be the way most people in bands are nowadays. Gutless wimps. Forget it and move on.
-
Never played one, but the weight alone would put me right off!

I'd be interested to find out why an Orange Terror Bass 1000 WOULDN'T be suitable for gigging?

I used to be a snob. Now my 2 main basses are a bog standard Fender P and a Lakland J. I've done the custom builds (probably wouldn't again - no reflection on the luthier in question btw) and been lucky with cheaper alternatives (I defy anyone to tell me my 'cheap' '95 Warwick Corvette can't compete with a top-of-the-range Thumb. I've played both.), been close to making some MAJOR purchases, including recently contemplating both Toasted and Clarky's ACs for sale here, but keep coming around to 'simple'. I used to HATE the idea of owning a Fender but now it doesn't bother me in the slightest whether the headstock says Fender, Squier, Lakland, AC, Sadowsky... whatever, If I like it I'll play it. I'm not even an amp snob (although some of my gear might lead you to think I am). 90% of the folk on here wouldn't urinate on my Ashdown if it was on fire (which seems to be common!), let alone own one, but it's what works for me. If it didn't work I wouldn't own it - sold off my Aguilar AG500 and Thunderfunk TF550 and kept the Ashdown (the Aggie and T'Funk were flavour of the month at the time, but each to their own). If I get my "Trace v-type pre/micro power amp in 1u" project sorted - thread to come in build diary forum - if it works as well as it should, that'll be my ultimate!
Unless I was really strapped, think I would be tempted to sell the heavy cab, buy a lightweight one and keep the LM11.
I'd agree with that. I'm also a line6 studio 110 fanboy, but it's not suited to every gig situation you could find yourself in (i.e. where you're not working on a reasonably quiet stage or don't have a decent PA to use for bass reproduction). EDIT: Pic just loaded - is that a DB112 you're complaining about being too heavy? Pah! Youngsters these days! Don't know they're born... I remember when all this was just fields and we had to walk barefoot through the snow carrying our 8x10 on our back to band practice... blah, blah, blah... Maybe swap it out for a barefaced midget and keep the LMII?

Whats the difference between the ATK300 and the ATK310
Bigwan replied to parker_muse's topic in Bass Guitars
"Bueller?... Bueller?..." By the look of your avatar you may be a bit young for that one! ATKs are great basses - kill stingrays every time for me. If I didn't have my Bongo I'd have a 300 today. To answer your question I think it could possibly be rosewood fretboards (310) instead of maple (300). Not much other than that. Maybe the 310 goes up to 11 or something... -
Bongo 5HH. Swiss army knife of bass... if you can get past the visuals (which never bothered me).
Agree with the other post, re playing style and previous experience of amps you`ve heard, being a good starting point of reference, A good all round versatile make in my view is Hartke. Another thing to think of is the old combo v stack issue. Again, your style of music/band could have a major factor in this. I`d definately look on the for sale section on here, there seems to always be good deals about, and for £200 - £300, you`ll be able to get something gig-worthy quite easily.
+1 to this, go used. As an example, local to me at the minute (Belfast-ish) there's a peavey tx 4x10 cab and Hartke HA3500 350 watt head second hand for a ton each (different sellers). Great gigging rig for someone on a budget like yours. Not light and probably not that easy transported, but somehow when you're younger these things aren't big problems!

5 piece neck? I think the 414 was 1 piece maple.

No news is good news. It's always nice to hear that things have gone smoothly, but some people just don't do communicating if they don't have to. I always make a point of letting a seller/buyer know exactly what's happening - just good manners really!

Oggy and I have spoken about this joker by PM. I got a response to my Markbass wanted add. I'd listed 3 amps I was interested in and he just said he had exactly the amp I was looking for - set alarm bells ringing straight away when he didn't mention which one it was. I deleted the PM unfortunately - think it came in yesterday (maybe day before). Ian

Just bought a Trace V-type preamp from Steve. Great bit of kit and great seller!

Looking forward to hearing how you get on with this WoT. Looking at your recent amp history (Mesa and TC) if it's your cup of tea it could be mine too!

Thinking of trying a new amp (micro/small amp) - From MB to?
Bigwan replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've tried the Promethean and by all your comments, it's seem the way to go or the shuttle (but I know less about this one)... The orange is tubey, the MB LM is warm so the next step would be more towards the HI-FI... The Ibanez is more Hi-Fi. the mark tube sounds like bad mix of MB trying to sound like an orange... ;-( It's a shame SWR, EDEN or EBS don't do a micro amp.. I think that would open up the other end of the amp spectrum. I've played the Redhead combo and it's great.. a mirco redhead would be awesome
SWR and EDEN do. SWR do the microlite thingy. Eden get close to the size of the MB LM too with the WTX series (i think that's what they're called). EBS don't so far. -
Everything's possible - certainly this is. Whether it's financially worthwhile depends on what your friend wants to get out of it. Whether the original V8 had a circuit board or not is irrelevant. All a circuit board is is wired connections trapped on a piece of stiff material making connections between multiple points more simple - can be achieved just the same with wires. It's never going to be identical to a V8, even if the original parts can all be sourced, but if he knows what he's doing it'll probably be pretty close, and with the appropriate attention to detail, could better the original amp. Having built a valve amp myself I'd say a V8 is probably not the most complicated thing in the world (but that's easy for me to say having worked in telecoms, aeronautical and automotive electronics).

Thinking of trying a new amp (micro/small amp) - From MB to?
Bigwan replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Going on description alone I think the GK MB500 (they've dropped the 2 from the name now) is probably a good starting point. The Ibanez Promethean is supposedly quite Markbass sounding so maybe too like what you've already tried. If you decide to sell off your LMIII give us a shout - I'm on the lookout for one myself.
