Not exactly an IKEA solution, but a furniture conversion nonetheless. Take one old wardrobe, remove everything except the top shelf, install Warwick guitar rack, and now my basses have nice safe dust- and sunlight-proof storage. Miscellaneous bits live on the shelf (batteries, tuner, books, etc etc etc), and straps/ leads/ stage clothes/ whatever hang inside the doors. The wardrobe itself is a bit cheap and nasty, so at some point I'm going to source another nicer/more contemporary one. Maybe even an IKEA one :D

Looks like solid pine... Couple of coats of primer and a lick of a funky coloured paint and you'd be "on trend' again...

Edit: We have an almost identical one in the wee fella's bedroom!

  2. There are quite a few. Not that they're better than what I have now, but GAS is a never ending struggle...

Lakland Joe Osborne Ltd Ed. It sounded SO GOOD, but it had a skinny jazz neck that made my hand cramp... But it sounded SO GOOD!

Dingwall AB1 (whalepool burst with blacked headstock and neck pocket). Can't think why I sold that one. Would have it back in a heartbeat now, more because if I still had it I probably wouldn't be hankering after a D-roc 5 string so much...

Wal mk1 Custom. Didn't really like it, but look what they're going for nowadays!

Squier SQ Precision that I bought for buttons and sold for 2.5 times as much. Sounded brilliant. But I made the mistake of playing it next to a 64/65 P bass which made it sound and feel like a toy. Sold it the next week. Missed it pretty much immediately...

ACG Recurve 4 string. I'm terrible for wavering back and forth between 4 and 5 strings. This went when in favour of keeping my 5 string ACG... Should have kept it! It's still around here somewhere (or possibly the Facebook ACG group, I can't recall right now). Wouldn't be the first time I've bought a bass back...

ACG "cricket club" Finn P bass. I did buy this one back, but it's seen minimal attention since and I think there's a cull coming that it won't survive.

Warwick Corvette 4. Lovely bubinga body and wenge neck. Sold my Wal and replaced it with this. Sold it when I was a bit strapped for cash. Unfortunately Warwicks were a bit out of fashion at the time and it went for 300 quid... I was going to say I've never let as good a bass go for so little money, but the Squier SQ above sold for less...

Thanks for the reminder - just ordered. ;)

Hopefully it tickles your pickle more than the micro version G. We both know the mini was where the real magic was!

  4. I really don't know how to answer this question... Or if I even can!

I have a notional "top 10" list of basses I've ever played - it's notional as in I've played them all, never owned some of them or even played many of them side-by-side. I own a few on the list... My Vigier Excess 5 jumped straight to number 3 on the list!

Whether there is 1 bass to rule them all for me is another thing. I constantly flop back and forward between 4 and 5 string which doesn't help matters...

  5. I found the key to the BDI21 (and the Sansamp on which it's based) is the blend knob.

Another budget preamp is the original Hartke VXL Bass Attack. Great sounding preamp for all sorts of sounds and built like a tank.

Of course if simple is what you're after there's always the Noble... if you have deep pockets...

  6. Pay attention to how hard you're fretting the string. I'd never really noticed myself until I watched a Gary Willis video on the subject. It takes a lot less pressure than you think and when you ease up on that it makes your left hand movement much more fluid. I do have to keep reminding myself though...

I dunno - I wonder how much European items cost in the US when you factor in the costs the other way?

Darkglass Alpha Omega Photon is $519/£388 at prymax, £479 in UK...

£116 (no taxes on US list price) less prymax cut, plus shipping plus import duty plus distributor cut plus VAT. (I know I know, we do this every time.)

Yes, but I wonder how close that gets to the UK price?

Just checked the price of the dug pedal too. The prymax price is the same as I paid for my used one recently. Boils my pi55...

Aren't most new pedals these days!

Well not to open a can of worms again, but accepting that sort of price as "normal" is screwing the collective!

As an example the YYZ is £215 at guitarguitar here in the UK today... Yet at prymax (USA) it's $155 at the minute. That's £116...

Somebody's lining their pockets nicely!!! Personally I'd never even consider buying a Tech21 product new.

You posted a thread up top about a video comp. It's also worth pointing out that people can download the demo/light version of 'Ashlight'.

It's about two and a half gigs of excellent sounds with most functions still in place. It can be used in both versions of Kontakt as well.

Can't see how to get the "lite" version... Every time I get to the drop down version box I only have the option of the full version. Am I missing something?
