I was thinking more along the lines of 'Higher Ground' and 'Superstition' myself!

So it would probably do Stevie Wonder type keyboard bass then?
3. It's like my old boss used to say "There's no point polishing a turd..." My point is, if you like the bass and plan on keeping it for a while then go ahead and mod it until your hearts content, but only if it's a worthwhile mod. If you're modding it trying to make it into something else you've seen/played/lusted after then you may be wasting your money needlessly. I spent over the odds tarting up an old Aria Pro II 5 string with a new bridge, Bart pickups, then EMG pickups and circuit. Spent way more than the bass cost me. In the end it wasn't much better than when it started. It's the bass I learned to play on, and it's never going anywhere, but it's still a plank after all the mods. For the money you're talking about spending you could sell the bass, add the extra and have something better (into Lakland Skyline territory there). This is all very subjective though. In the end it's your bass and nobody's going to call you a mug if you want to spoil it a little. I wouldn't class a change of strings as an upgrade though...
4. I recently had to learn this for my band. I wouldn't even attempt to learn this song note-for-note because it's ridiculously complex for a 4 chord wonder, IMHO. Simplify it. The punters won't know the difference. I personally hate the song so had no problem doing it my own way. But then I had 20 songs to learn that week and wanted to spend more time on the songs that needed more attention to sound passable with the band. I repeat the first 2 lines (of bass) of the song for the verses and stick with the basic root notes in the bridge and chorus. F/E/F/A/E/G then once round the chorus under the guitar solo. Still sounds quite busy. Just my tuppence worth. Learn it quick and move on to something you'll find more fulfilling...
5. The neck profiles are totally different. For a start the Sadowsky has 19mm string spacing. The 'ray would be nearer 17.5mm. I disposed of my 'Ray a few years back because the neck was too narrow. I'd say the Sadowsky neck is wider but flatter, although still quite chunky. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the Sadowsky I'd suggest a Lakland Skyline 5 string (a Joe Osborne would be my choice, although I've never tried the DJ model - it's supposed to be very good...)
6. I'd have given you cash in hand for this on Sunday morning if I knew you had it! Oh well...

For Sale

I may be wrong but weren't you directed to the For Sale section once before???
8. Just received an SWR WM12 that I bought from Nigel (transported to this side of the Irish Sea by Gareth Hughes - great chap!). Great guy to deal with throughout!
9. Just to add another bit about Gareth. I bought an SWR WM12 from Nigel (InThePocket) and Gareth was kind enough to have it transported along with his gear from Leicester to Norn Iron. Top bloke!
10. Just received Russ's Fender Roscoe Beck V. Great bass and a great guy to deal with.

Can the Vbass do keyboard/organ/piano sounds? I know it doesn't do any pitch/MIDI conversion and it's all modelling...
12. I've had an Ashdown 1x10 ABM combo for a long time. The cabs that you use make a BIG difference. I found pretty much my perfect sound last night with the combo running into an Aguilar 1x12. Growly, punchy and defined using my Lakland JO. I was so happy with that combination (which I hadn't used before since the Aggie cab is fairly new to me) that I'm seriously considering selling off my (also recently acquired) Thunderfunk and getting myself a chrome rackmount EVO III...
13. On the lookout for something similar myself, although I'm looking for the added functionality of mp3 playback. I've ended up narrowing the field down to the Boss Micro BR... A little pricey and isn't really useable as a 'live' effects unit, but you do get a 4 track digital recorder included.
14. I'm considering building 2 of these for PA use... I already have the 15" drivers lying around doing nothing.
15. I'd been looking for one of these a few months back. Unfortunately I'm totally overstretched and have an RB V of another kind (Fender) on its way to me anyway... Doesn't stop me GASing for it though!
16. A total steal at that price! This won't hang around long...
17.
OK suggestions... Pump It Up - Elvis Costello Hush - Deep Purple I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys Video Killed The Radio Star - Boggles Oh My God/Ruby/I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs Message In A Bottle - Police Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf Dancing In The Moonlight - Thin Lizzy Not sure if any of them are any good, am I going down the right lines at all? Also, I don't think you really need to worry about the keys and horns art of a song too much, unless the song is made by the keys, more often than not they can be left out and not too sorely missed...
I've a few of those on my personal list (as in I'd like to do them but we either haven't got around to them yet, or the other guys aren't keen)... A few more I'd like to do are: bad case of loving you - robert palmer i love it when you call - the feeling desire - u2 When you're lookin like that - Westlife Sharp Dressed Man/tush - ZZ Top Hangin on the telephone - blondie/def leppard friday i'm in love - the cure every little thing she does is magic/every breathe you take - the police video killed the radio star - POTUSA version every morning - sugar ray i will survive - cake version Superstition - Beck, Bogert, Appice/SRV version rock dj - robbie williams 1985 - Bowling for Soup higher ground - rhcp stacey's mom - fountains of wayne Keep them coming...
18.
The list you have looks pretty impressive to me, i love all them songs.
Need more though! Come on guys! Any and all suggestions welcome...
19. I've joined a new covers band (mainly to get me back into playing and gigging again) and we're aiming to be out gigging in the next couple of months. I'm looking for any MOR setlist suggestions for a band with no keys, just 2 guitars, bass and drums. Stuff that'll get the punters up and moving... We've got some older stuff covered (brown eyed girl, stuck in the middle, make me smile, etc.) but most of the stuff I've suggested playing gets shot down as the 2 guitarists (1 guitarist and a bluffer really) can't cover the keyboard/horn parts very well. Already have: Brown eyed girl Stuck in the middle Make me smile Honky Tonk Woman Brown Sugar Satisfaction You really got me 20th century boy I like to boogie Vertigo I feel good Sex Machine Can't get enough of your love Proud Mary Fortunate son Dakota Angel of harlem She's electric Glory days Hurts so good She moves in her own way Fall to pieces Mustang Sally Midnight Hour Burning Love Shook me all night long Hard to handle Jailbird Sweet Home Alabama Mr Brightside Summer of 69 Long train running Chocolate You're all i have Most of the rockier stuff is getting watered down/boogied a bit as the drummer is quite adamant that it's not going to be a 'another rock band'
20. Lakland Skyline JO5... nothing else really comes close IMHO. YMMV.
21. Both excellent basses. Both feel the same (other than where you can place your right hand due to pickup differences). If it were me I'd opt for the 55-01 and spend the difference putting Nordstrand pickups and a better preamp in it... Electronics seem to be the 55-01's only weakness, but that really is knit-picking to say that as the standard pickups are fine. Have you considered a Joe Osborne 5? It's be my pick of the Lakland Skyline 5 strings I've played, although I haven't played the DJ model...

Adee's feedback

Just received a bass from Adee. All went smoothly. Good guy to deal with... And I've never seen a better packed bass!
