The way it should be... having said that I've never heard any Converge, but the description is exactly the way my last metal band sounded...

In my opinion Darkglass have so cornered the metal market that a lot of metal bass is starting to sound exactly the same - as Amos Williams of Tesseract says "the ubiquitous Darkglass B7K...".

Totally agree. I'll be first to admit that I'm not the biggest Darkglass fan (except for the amp - it's outstanding!), but I'd like to try one of these. I haven't tried the Tech21 Dug pre either. I think everybody misses a trick by not giving the Ashdown J-Lo Hyperdrive a go. It'd need to be a good pedal to bump that off for me...

He uses esoteric equipment and records without a DI using a very coloured rig and microphone. So his demos are completely unlike what you can expect any given pedal to sound... And his playing style is the bass playing equivalent of a drum fill made up of throwing a drum kit down a flight of stairs... See? I can be constructive when I have the time...

    I suppose somebody has to...

Now we're talking! That's a pretty killer feature set...
  7. Great to see. I owned the original multiple times. Would happily own another.
  8. That feeling when you've placed a "wanted" ad, it's been 10 minutes and NOBODY HAS RESPONDED!!!

Just wait until it's 10 months old ad on a dating site... 😞

I know Luke. But I don't think my budget is THAT flexible...

  9. You could have employed a toilet roll tube and some tin foil and gone proper Blue Peter on its A$$...
  10. Hotness! Health to enjoy!
  11. Currently GASing for a neck through Warwick Thumb 5 string... It's either @Kev's fault, or I've been listening to too much Ryan Martinie this week... or both...

If you are flexible on the neck through, there is one in London that could fit the bill. On the Bass Players Market UK Facebook page. (No connection to seller, just acting on the coincidence of seeing a Thumb being mentioned twice in quick succession!)

It'd have to be the neck through for me...

"Welcome to try it if I buy, but I'm not exactly next door to you!"

Thank you.  I was really only pulling your leg.  Who knows though?  We might meet at a Bass Bash or other music related event so I may get to call your bluff after all.

I wish you luck with your GAS.  May it not involve a second mortgage.

  12. What have you done to that poor toe?
  13. I've recently got my mitts on a CV P in fiesta red. It's spectacularly good despite parcelfarce trying to destroy it en route! Well worth holding out for. A wanted ad here is the way to go.
  14. Sounds like you're out of phase there!
  15. These also get better with age. I spent the majority of my formative years playing one and i'm sorely tempted to buy this one too...
  16. That looks rather lovely! Health to enjoy!
  17. I think from memory that the VR microstack is better regarded all round. I've never owned either but was seriously considering buying the VR setup a few years back so was doing my due diligence!
  18. They used to be so good. Now there's a thread of horror stories on here. I use strings direct now and my experiences have been positive so far. Wouldn't take that as a recommendation though! Only used them two or three times.
  19. You know it makes sense...
  20. Buying used I'd suggest Yamaha, Sire, Ibanez, some Squier stuff I bought back an Ibanez ATK700 last week that I sold 2 years ago. Really abused but 100% functional and a WICKED Musicman-esque bass. £120 and I could have got it cheaper but the seller was a work colleague. Nearly leaves enough in the budget for a used Ashdown ABM500, which can only be good...
  21. My number one is currently wearing Ernie Ball Cobalts, which I like A LOT. Really liked the D'addarios that came fitted on my Sire 5 (only my 2nd experience of D'addarios on bass) so I'd like to give the NYXLs a shot. "deep, powerful lows, focused punch and accentuated harmonics"? Focused punch sounds right up my street!
  22. as per @dave_bass5, the Joyo Orange Juice is pretty nice, if you can get along with a pedal so small!
  23. Then after the handle you could consider covering the grill with a nice contrasting fabric... or Mesa-esque woven bamboo!!!
  24. I've done a few deals with Mark back and forward and I have to say he's an absolute star and a credit to the forum. Deal with absolute confidence!
  25. A bit like the original then! I have 2 of these. They're brilliant!
