  1. Not quite into Monique territory! Think Chris Chaney swears by the 1073
  2. Off the wall suggestion - Arkham Sound. They have 3 preamps based on the Ampeg B15 preamp circuit. Getting a lot of love on that other bass site.
  3. Just skipped through this video... Does he touch the B-string once? Other than as a finger rest...
  4. If I was ever on the hunt for another 5 (it's bound to happen sooner or later) I'd be looking very closely at the P7. I really, REALLY liked the V7 I used to have, but the overly loud B string killed the love (why, oh why put a 7.25" radius on a 5 string?). You could actually do something about it with the split pickup on the P7!
  5. Something sharp and a lot of patience! I'd probably start at it with a small, sharp twist drill to clear out the most of it (turned by hand and being careful not to mar the faces of the nut) and then small, chisel-shaped scalpel blades or maybe something like a larger hypodermic needle might work well to get into the corners. Maybe a needle file or 2.
  6. First time checking out Tesseract. Lovely.

  7. Recent Instagram post from Scott Devine suggested his Nate Mendel was his favourite p-bass. I found that a bit of a shock given the other p-basses he has (Moollon, Fender Custom Shop '59, Overwater Custom P). I've played a Mendel briefly and was very impressed with it, although it's not different enough from basses I already have (that I couldn't part with for sentimental reasons!) for me to buy one.
  8. Good buy for the money. My fav small combo ever is the Line 6 Studio 110, the baby brother to this one.
  9. Tom Stenback is the type of guy I'd like to spend a day with just to watch his process. There are hints at the levels he goes to in some of his videos. I'd love the chance to question him in detail...
  10. It's probably better made than my Kala, even with that random nut arrangement...
  11. Perhaps, but all that suggests that they're readily available and "everybody's playing them"... Neither of which is true...
  12. That'll be pretty close. Assuming you were using a psu you could do this in a Mooer/1590A sized pedal though. Smaller if you wanted it always on. You could mount it in a bass's control cavity...
  13. 250v may be for the preamp valve, but the aural enhancer runs off +/-15v DC
  14. Could be done quite easily. It's just a filter network... Diagram from SWR IOD preamp, but the circuit is identical to other SWR amps. Would need to be adapted slightly to function from 9v battery/pedal PSU, but in the grand scheme of things it would be easy
  15. Wow, that's awesome... Now where are my f'ing pickups?!
  16. My friend's 64 precision... My ultimate. Or the Skarbee Celinder Update 4... Oh to have the chance to play the 2 side by side. The ultimate shootout.
  17. Did you ever try your Quilter with one of the Barefaced 10" cabs Frank?
  18. They sound like Quentin Tarantino's wet dream... Very little of that would be enough for me I think.
  19. Website points you to Paul's Bass Matters in the Netherlands. You could try there if immediate contact isn't forthcoming.
  20. The Darkglass is a great amp if you like a bit of drive. I do and had it on the VMT channel all the time. BUT I thought without drive it sounded a little flat and lacking in top end, but I was playing it through a tweeterless Barefaced cab so that's hardly the best way of judging it!
  21. Console yourself in the fact that Mr Vanderkley's technique is SO different from/better than yours that you probably couldn't make it sound that good even if you did have the time to practice enough... No wait, that's what I'm doing...
  22. He's not only playing "one" here... It looks like the one he's playing in the video IS the one BD have for sale. Look at the grain on the top! Sounds lush!
