  1. I used a D'addario 145 on a drop A 34" scale 5 string (Sire Jazz) and it was perfect.
  2. More than one lesson learned there then! Could end up saving you money in the long run that one...
  3. Looks lush! Not the spec I would personally choose, but still lush nonetheless!
  4. I'd go the chrome hardware route myself. Lovely looking basses. I've never had the opportunity to try one myself, but they're on the radar!
  5. Just bought an Ibanez SRC6 from Frank. Very pleased with it and the whole transaction. Communication was excellent throughout and Frank's packaging was beyond bombproof! Wouldn't hesitate to deal with Frank again.

Position sensor? Like a rotary encoder?
  7. I would bet UK sales of SM212's will bump a little on the strength of that video!

I should probably say I think it can be done as follows: with transconductance amplifiers like the LM13600/13700 (see "interpolating scanner" project online) where one of these devices acts as a volume control per channel with an arduino reading the input pot as a voltage divider and controlling digital pots on the i2c bus to act as volume controls for each channel based on the position/voltage output from the pot But I can't think of an easier way to do it.

    at 25% a 50/50 blend of A and B, no C. At 75% a 50/50 blend of B and C, no A.

Can anyone think of a way to blend between 3 separate signals using a single pot? I want: signal "A" full volume, signals "B" and "C" totally off at 0% pot travel signal "B" full volume, signals "A" and "C" totally off at 50% pot travel signal "C" full volume, signals "A" and "B" totally off at 100% pot travel In honesty I can think of 2 different ways of doing this, both of which are quite involved, but was wondering if anyone could come up with simpler way!!!
  11. Following on from Quilly's Seller's Remorse thread and the comment I made about regretting buying (or not buying!) much more than selling, what have you bought (or not!) and regretted it? For me I regret buying (actually less than I was expecting!): Anything with Ernie Ball on the headstock - So a Stingray 5, a Stingray 4, a Bongo 5 and a Bongo 4. Anything made by Darkglass (except the M900 amp which was well lush!): B3k (3 times), VMT, B7K, Vintage Ultra (although it was good, it just wasn't anywhere near as good as the M900 it replaced). Shuker Custom 6 string. For some reason I thought a 6 string was a great idea. I'd never owned one before. Thick end of 2 grand pretty much wasted. Quality was great though. Peavey 810TX. Who needs vertebrae, eh? Seemed like a great idea, and sounded pretty good but moving it on my own was not much fun. Aguilar AG500. Meh. Just not me. "Goodfellow" 4 string. Turned out it was cobbled together with leftovers from the Lowden factory-era. Utter rubbish. Regret not buying: Refinished Fender '65 P bass in Ruddy's, New York about 10 years ago. Should have got the credit card out on the spot. Opened the P bass flood gates for me. Late 70's Fender Mustang I was offered in my late teens. It wasn't pointy/metal enough for me at the time even if it was the most comfortable bass I'd played up to that point. The guy's opening gambit was a ton (in '94), so I could have got it cheaper. Celinder "Skarbee" Update 4. In the top 3 basses I've ever had in my hands. Again, should have got the credit card out on the spot.
  12. In 26 years... Tecamp Puma 212 Combo - best bass combo in the world I think. But I had given up on bands at the time. Ashdown LB30 & matching LB212 cab. Ditto. Fender Roscoe Beck V. Sold because I was on a 4 string trip at the time. I'll maybe get another one day. Really, really nice bass. Squier SQ Precision. Really abused by former owner but sounded and felt glorious. Bought for a ton and sold in a fit of insanity. Way better than my USA P, but it was a wedding present from my wife. 83 Wal Custom. Not that I really liked it that much, but regret because I sold it cheap. Nowadays it'd be worth more than twice what I sold it for!!! Actually I've regretted buying (or not buying!) much more than I've regretted selling...
  13. ACG. Every day of the week. Alan can do multiscale too.
  14. Measure of success? For me it'd be making a comfortable living doing something I loved to a level that meant I didn't grow to hate it. Think Devin Townsend rather than Pete Townsend. I really like Kevin Kelly's 1000 true fans theory...
  15. Andy, nothing budget springs to mind, but have a look at the Fender Classic 50's P bass or the Roadworn 50's P bass for wider necks. Good luck with your search!
  16. This. I think they may have already done it to be frank...
  17. The "fan" is the driver. They're just visible in the new version. Look a bit like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Unknown-Bodyshaker/dp/B002LQAHPE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1524832245&sr=8-4&keywords=bass+shaker I notice the Eich ones have a headphone output socket on them now. Still have plans to do a DIY one when time allows...
  18. If you have access to a blowtorch you may be able to flame polish your edges.
  19. Yes, note that there is no BB RC Booster. There's the Bass RC Booster and the Bass BB Preamp. Different circuits. Similar tone shaping from both, but more drive from the BB. RC was a bit tame for me, but does add the tiniest bit of hair if desired.
  20. Pedalparts do it in kit form if you know anyone handy with a soldering iron - an easy enough build too (speaking from personal experience). I believe there are clones of the guitar version out there (Mooer Pure Boost, Caline Highway Man), but not the bass version, but that never stopped (Nashville session great) Michael Rhodes who used the guitar version for years before the bass version was released.
  21. Already did after reading this thread yesterday!
