1.
People tend to like these rant type video bloggers until they pick on the thing they like.
I didn't really hear any ranting, just utter nonsense being talked...
2.
Ain't that the truth! I played a few pre-CBS before getting mine and there was def. variance between them. Mostly it was tonal tho - the necks broadly felt pretty similar. You considered doing a parts build and having something which is pretty much a 64 spec? The two PJs I'm doing at the mo are exact copies of 64 necks - some well chosen parts and you'd get 80% of the way there...
I have, and contact has been made with your supplier!
3. Can't see your pics for some reason. Can see the pics of your sunburst jazz body in the other post though.
4. Totally not a Rick fan (although I had my first positive Rick experience recently I would never own one). It's the total inaccuracy of his content that offends me really, from "this bass won't work with these strings" to setting the action of the bass by measuring the radius on top of the strings... I have my doubts that there was anything wrong with the pickup in the bass since it was fine except for the tone control. Does sound good with the Bill Lawrence in there though! But it looked like he was happy to leave the bass with the pickguard up in the air...
5. I know many fine Dave's. I believe he's only the 2nd I've encountered to truly let down all the other Dave's who share the wondrous name of Dave...
6. I've been aware of Dave for some time but he always seemed fairly harmless. Was just watching something else and one of Dave's videos appeared in "Up Next" with him looking at a MIM '57 RI P bass. After about a minute I started skipping through the rest of the video (and his 3 subsequent videos about the same bass) to just confirm my opinion. This man is an absolute idiot! It is a real worry that people would watch his output and take him seriously... Opinions? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIG1ejlk-18
7. Left field suggestion. Lose the cab, keep the amp, cheap dummy load, wee mixer to DI into, decent headphones, jobs a good un. having owned an LB30 (and subsequently a CTM30) I know what you're giving up. Best little head out there and if I didn't have a Burman (despite it needing a good bit of work!) I'd have this off you in a flash...
8. Really jealous of your little Ashdown fliptop, by the way! Really liked the look of these when they were released.
9. Maybe try removing and refitting the speaker. The issue may become obvious!
10.
It's hard to say without hearing what you're hearing, but is it definitely the speaker farting and not the amp distorting? It's only a 15 watt amp, and the speaker would have to either be damaged or very poorly chosen to be running out of steam at that amount of power. It'd be worth checking through another cab before you spend more on it.
That's easy to check out - just try it with a different cab.
11.
That specific 64 or do you think any 64 would do it for you?
Hard to say since it's the only one I've played Mark - they don't grow i trees round here I'm afraid to say! I was pretty impressed with the '66 I played in Rudy's on honeymoon in NYC so probably any decent one of that kind of era... Money is the only (rather large) barrier...
12. While I'd be tempted to go with an external cab, you bought this for a reason. And they're cute as a button! I'd contact ashdown.
13. These are great basses. Kick MM's arse in my experience (back to back testing).
14.
You should have started as you meant to go on...
Would have been cheaper in the long run!
15.
You going to share it with us, then? Or is it still the Pre-CBS P?
Yup. Specifically a refinished 64 P bass belonging to a friend. He's owned it since '68. Chances of it ever being mine are, let's say, slim... I was a hair's breadth from buying a refinished 66 P that was pretty close to perfect from Rudy's when we were on honeymoon in NYC, but didn't think a 3k credit card bill was the best start to wedded life...
16.
One more for the road... I once dreamt of owning an Alembic Signature 4. And then I got one. Ah well, that's dreams for you ~ be very careful what you wish for! I have neither the time, £$£$ or motivation to carry on searching for the dream Bass... I have what I need and that's that.
All true! I dreamed of owning a Wal. I was so sure they were the perfect bass for me. Bought one. Good but wasn't THE ONE. I dreamed of owning various Laklands. Had them. Good, but they're gone now. Musicman, Warwick, same story. I only thought I wanted them all. BUT, unlike many who continue to search, I HAVE been lucky enough to play my dream bass, so now I KNOW.
17. Pre-CBS Fender P...
18. How is your master volume set on the amp? The DI is, I believe, post master volume on the M900. Pretty major flaw in the design which I believe has been rectified on the new M500. Try turning volume up. The hiss may just be the signal to noise ratio being all out of whack because you're trying to boost a low signal as your volume level is (I assume) so low. If it's not down to the volume level you may have an issue...
19. I love my 08 P. You could say I'm married to it as it was a wedding present from her-indoors. I also have a Yamaha Pulser 400 that's tip-top (feels very like a Nate Mendel I played recently) and an ACG Finn that's basically a P bass in a fancy suit (sorry Alan!). But having played a friend's 64 P, nothing I have compares to the feel or the tone of that bass, and I'm slightly annoyed by that!
20. Billy's use of distortion is well known. Even his clean tone has distortion on it. But he's also a very heavy user of compression. Hearing his distorted tone without compression is a real eye opener!
21.
Many drops make an ocean. Wisdom comes in many forms.
Wow... Deep...
22. Not everybody see's this as a "problem" - some people seem to invent problems that fit a specific argument! Is the OP Harvey Weinstein all of a sudden? Wise up guys, seriously...
23. You might find it a challenge to get the size of nut file exactly correct. Perhaps a smaller file with a piece of emery paper wrapped around the cutting edge would get you closer than the bigger size?
24.
Yes, arguably, although that is based on the individual watching. There is almost certainly a difference in reaction to all watching when presented with the following titles: Stunning girl, instrument, playing and composition!!! Stunning instrument, playing and composition!!! Which do you think is more fair to her when presenting her playing to those who don't know her?
I'd say they're both fair, just termed differently.
