1.
The megadrum module is a real pig to set up. I've got one and tried to make the optical hihat controller. I've got the mechanism nailed but have really struggled to get the circuit to work. In the end we just use the brain from a yamaha dtxpress iv. Midi from the brain goes into reaper on pc via the XR18 and superior drummer runs as a vst instrument. Whilst recording we are actually hearing sounds from the brain rather than superior drummer because there's a bit of latency.
I bought a Roland TD6 module, and a complete Alesis DM6 kit (cheap and nasty) to use the hi-hat pedal, rack and cymbals. Pulled the guts from the Alesis hi-hat pedal and used an appropriately placed FSR and 2 multi-turn trim pots to set open and closed resistance and the jobs a good un! If the physical feel isn't right for the tame drummer then I'll have to revisit the pedal/trigger end of things, but the pedal works a treat with the TD-6 module. Worst comes to worst I can rig a hi-hat stand pedal in the same way as the Alesis pedal and hack a perfectly good set of hi-hats to mount the trigger piezo. The latency of old school midi from the TD-6 (about 4 - 5ms) through the X18 (approx 10ms) and audio back from EZ Drummer is a concern, which is why I wanted to give the Megadrum module a go. Megadrum users quote under 2ms latency, so with mac mini (with maxed out RAM and an SSD) only running EZ Drummer I hope to keep it to under 5ms. We'll see how it goes.
2.
Hi Bigwan - welcome to the Two Notes fan club! I had a pretty similar Q to yours for Cuzzie and I think the answer is probably "both", but I'll let the man himself answer (and I've taken the liberty to pull the discussion back over to this thread )
That's cool Al, here or there makes no difference! I'm guessing I'll love the cold fusion mode...
3.
Two Notes did not disappoint me, I love mine absolutely, it actually sealed the deal for the death of my DG pedal. Hope you find you love it as much as I do-go in with an open mind and you'll get it right, it's its own beast and will sound it's own way, hope it's right for you, and those fusion modes are mint
I noticed you're using it with the Hartke VXL Cuzzie. I have one of those too and it's an awesome pedal. Do you have the Hartke pedal clean to push the Two Notes more, or just to fatten things?
4.
This is exactly how we have just started to rehearse with one of my projects. We converted my shed to a soundproof box and decorated it like a studio and fitted some cheap led par cans up. We can now shoot videos at rehearsals too - nothing fancy but it helps. Setup is - Converted acoustic drum kit running from cheap yamaha brain into Superior Drummer Real Hi Hat (small compromise in order to retain natural sound and feel for drummer) Guitars through POD HD500 Bass through Helix Vocal Mics All goes into Behringer XR18 All band members on wired in ears. Sounds hideous (albeit not too loud) in the room if you take your iems out but sounds heavenly with them in. Minimal setup time as it all lives permanently in the shed. Takes approx 20mins to get a useable audio mix in post production which we then sync with the video footage. I can usually knock out 2-3 little videos for our social media etc in about 1-2hours the next day after each rehearsal. Most recent video from the shed (smoke machine has since been removed from shed lol)
"Great minds..." and all that! Great idea for showcasing your band. Hi-hats seem to be the biggest stumbling block with acoustic drum conversions - closely followed by triple zone cymbals/rides! I'm about to buy a megadrum module as the brain for my acoustic conversion, using EZ Drummer on my Mac mini for the sounds. I'm reluctant to use real hi-hats as I plan to set this all up in the house and, having 2 young kids, minimal noise is a necessity. Garage conversion to ultra man-cave is the plan, but that's a few years away yet!
5.
Great changes on the B3K, the tone knob is the best part of the M900 pre.
Agreed. If they can find a way of integrating the tone knob on the vintage deluxe/ultra I'd be back on the Darkglass bandwagon. It was the secret sauce of the M900 and my recently departed Vintage Ultra just didn't quite get there. In the meantime I've a Two Notes Le Bass incoming to try to fill that hole. I blame the "Ebay..." forum on here for that one...
6. I lowballed too, but wouldn't usually go more than original price - 10%.
7. Just had a message from seller. Original power supply is included. Tempted...
8. Yeah, just shows the big empty space in the box!
9. Aren't these supposed to ship with a power supply?
10.
Just back from a trip to Moffat to pick up a new bass. ACG recurve 5. What can I say, plays easy, sounds great and looks amazing.
Snap! One of the best instruments I've ever layer hands on!
11. Haven't seen one of those in a long time!
12. Think it was last year that Fieldy didn't tour with Korn (new child). His dep? Ryan Martinie, formerly of Mudvayne... Just a bit of a step up in the bass department... And then there was Trujillo the younger (aged 12)...
13.
Awesome value here for a Dingwall bass. I miss mine. Have a bump and GLWTS
14. Great price. This won't last long.
15.
Is that price from Mesa themselves? If it is, you could read the specs of the side of the transformer and try to buy a replacement from Farnell, RS or the like. (Input V, VA, output(s) V, VA etc. It's a toroidal transformer I think? I think it might be cheaper but certainly worth a try. Frank.
Hopefully the specs ARE printed on it - a quick google for Mesa Walkabout Guts shows a pic from "that other well known bass forum" (https://www.talkbass.com/threads/amp-guts-photos-official-thread-lets-see-those-pics.513929/page-32) with specs printed on the side of the transformer, just not clear enough to make them out!
16. You could probably have someone wind one locally cheaper than that. If you can find the specs of the original one that is.
17. Jeez for a minute there I thought I'd wandered onto TB by mistake...
18. If you've had hands on it you're a step ahead of the rest of us. Only question that matters - Do you like it enough to pay what is being asked?
19. The TH350 uses the same amp module as a lot of the 500 watt class D amps (b&o icepower 125asx2). It maybe doesn't have the fancy power management/compression handling of some other 500w heads, but it'll be roughly in that ballpark volume-wise.
