1. I've had 2 (well, an LB30 and a CTM30, but they're the same thing under the hood). Loved them both. Warm with an edge when pushed. Really dynamic and the LB212 is a great cab (but WAY heavier than advertised! It's also advertised as 100w when it's actually 300w so...). I'll own another some day...
Finally got around to starting one of the several projects I've had lying around for a while. This one has only been sat here for a year. Some of the others are about 10 years old... It's a Gristleiser it's a version of one of these:
Nice!
3. Looking awesome!
4. Dave Hollingworth (Toska, Dorje) uses one. A bit of noise here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXbqPlhgwQU
5. Probably an old picture...
6. I know from the Impact Sound website that it needs the full version of Kontakt to play it, but if there was another player that would work I'd buy that in a shot!
7.
I know this thread is a two man show with the odd groupie hanging on, But, another $20.00 gem has landed. Very unique sounds and you can do some very clever tricks with it. A real Diamond. http://impactsoundwo...c/sonic-forest/
Can anyone suggest something like this that DOESN'T need the full version of Kontakt (HOW MUCH?!)? Have a few songs that could benefit from these sort of sounds. Total newb at this sort of stuff though...
8. I've also been following Alpher on Instagram lately and have been blown away by some of their creations. Beyond my wallet at present, but perhaps some day...
9. I think I'd start by putting my question in the right section of the forum!
10. One of the only times I've given negative feedback on here was to a young chap who thought posting a bass in a bin bag was acceptable. He'd already used the same level of protection on a previous transaction round these parts and I warned him that if he was to post a bass to me in the same way he'd better be ready for the paypal backlash if there was damage (wouldn't normally deal with somebody with that sort of history, but the bass was CHEAP!). I was assured the bass would be appropriately protected. Mercifully it arrived entirely unscathed...
11.
Cabinet simulation is nothing more than EQ and filtering that resembles a bass speaker cabinet, either generally (using filters and parametric EQ) or specifically (using digital cabinet Impulse Responses). If you were to analyze the EQ curve of a mic'd bass cab, you'd see that there are usually many, many EQ notches and some complexity that is difficult to capture using traditional EQ...but...you can get close if you know what you're trying to EQ. However, I'm of the opinion that it is the complexity of the EQ response curve that gives a mic'd cabinet its unique character. Whether either one is better than the other is purely subjective.
A good point... which has me thinking about the Tech 21 Q Strip as a DI. I have like 10 different drive pedals I could run in front of it...

Guma Drive completed at lunchtime today (again a cheeky half hour in the lab at work!). I'll test it tonight. Something of note with the Guma Antique. Without doubt it's the least noisy of all the DIY projects I've built. Highly recommended.
13.
Personally... if using effects then I'd say it's important. Although not all preamps are the same. Fuzz and distortion can sound harsh. I've mainly stuck to digital (ie multifx) preamp for this reason as they tend tobyqve more control over how much 'cab SIM ' is comibg through.
That was my thinking. I'd been looking at the vintage ultra (just sold my darkglass M900 to go in-ears and LOVED the vintage channel on it) but without cab sim I'd be a bit nervous. Lots of folk seem to be using the OmniCabSim dlx with the Darkglass stuff, but I'm not shelling out that much for a cab sim. Might settle myself with my Zoom B3 for EQ and amp/cab sim and my Guma Antique (Darkglass Vintage clone) in front. Does sound a bit digital though...
14. On this topic, does anyone feel cab simulation is an important consideration when DIing without a rig? Thinking of my own impending IEM setup...
15. I've never used "guitard" to my knowledge... I have, and will continue to use "guiturd". Much more appropriate...
16. Can't for the life of me understand why this is still here! If I hadn't recently committed myself to going in-ears I'd have this rig in a shot. Possibly the best sounding rig I've ever owned...
17. Bargains galore! Like Pussy Galore only cheaper!
18. I'm in the process of doing an acoustic to electric conversion on a well used Stagg fusion drum kit at the minute for my home-based silent rehearsal project. So far I'm just over 200 quid (used TD6V module off the bay, DIY drum triggers, second hand Stagg kit and Alesis cymbals off gumtree), but it takes some DIY and experimentation, and I'll probably break the 300 quid mark by the time I'm finished (need pretty much all hardware replaced since the stagg stuff is AWFUL). Just putting it out there as a possible option. My thinking was it would feel more like a real drum kit. The drummer in my previous band bought a TD3 and gigged it for a while (which was great - nice quiet stage!) but lost interest in it as the feel wasn't right.

Yup, can confirm the Antique sounds awesome. Used it into my B3 last night with the B3 set up to replicate the EQ on the M900 I just sold. Bit of high pass filtering from the Fishman preamp model and we're set for the IEM experiment!

Definitely impressed with the quality of the schalltechnik kits. Instructions wouldn't be top notch though, and are open to interpretation in places. The Guma Antique printed enclosure is beautiful!
21. By "other things" I'm assuming you mean dairy...
22. Does the power supply come with cables?

Eventually finished my Guma Antique this morning (a naughty half hour in the lab at work). Original intention was to build this and a Guma Drive into the same box, but with time seemingly always against me I folded and ordered the individual printed enclosures from Julian (kit supplier) instead... along with his Pumpernickel compressor kit... and printed enclosure. No way I was attempting that drilling job!
25. Yup. Had hearing loss for about 20 years (self inflicted) but my tinnitus only kicked in after a nasty sinus infection 18 months ago. Only advice the NHS have given me is "don't listen to it". Handy... On my bad days it does get me a bit down, especially recently when an inner ear infection rendered me effectively deaf in my left ear. Thankfully it doesn't stop me sleeping - my 2 kids do that instead! I've been using earplugs for a few years now and am in the process of getting an in-ear monitor setup up and running. A bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted, but I'm determined to keep what hearing I still have and will always have a set of earplugs on my keyring.
