Interesting to see that the new Yamaha uses a variation on the Sheehan Attitude 3 neck joint...

Guitar Guitar Glasgow - New Bass Department is Great!
Bigwan replied to Crawford13's topic in General Discussion
I was in mid-March, again before the official opening. Paul was a star. No pressure sales and still managed to convince me to buy a Darkglass M900 (didn't walk out with one but mail ordered it from guitarguitar after the fact). He also has me lusting for a Nate Mendel P-bass even though I already have 3 more than excellent P-basses at present.... Man's got skills! -
You mentioned you used to have both the VT and the BB i.e. past tense - what have you got in their place now?
*hand up like I'm back in school* Oh! Oh! I know! I know!

Saw that bass. I still kick myself daily for passing one of those (although the non-lacquer version) up at £350 in crack converters Belfast a couple of years ago...
Thanks! That is an odd oversight in the design.
Yes and no. It's been a judgement call in the design process. To add the handy amp-charge feature they've had to compromise on using the unit with guitars/basses with active pickups. I'd assume there are far proportionally fewer active guitars than active basses, and we all know Line6 kind of stopped worrying about the bass market YEARS ago.
What is the problem with active basses you are referring to?
One of the features of the G10 is that it can be charged by plugging it into one of the Line6 wireless equipped amps (very fancy!), via the ring and sleeve of the stereo jack plug. But that would cause issues with active basses as the active circuit is switched on by inserting a mono jack into a stereo socket, whereby shorting out the ring and sleeve connections, completing the battery's path to ground. The G10 transmitter has a stereo plug which doesn't complete the battery path, so your active circuit in your bass remains off.

The fuzzdog muff is a great kit. I personally preferred his musket clone (muff gun kit), but it's a more challenging build for sure.

You want a decent demo, dood provides!
I keep listening to the Mr Exane demo. Sounds great. But then again he makes everything sound good.
Really? I couldn't disagree more... He makes everything sound rushed and uses equipment virtually nobody else owns for his demos, which in my mind makes them entirely non-representative of what the demoed pedal would sound like! His are the only gear demos I actively avoid!

Last time I checked Limelight couldn't do 1.75" necks. Although that was a couple of years back and things may have changed...
That's awesome to know cheers. I am in Glasgow, but wouldn't have thought of guitar guitar because last time I was there they barely had anything except practice amps on display.
You're in for a surprise. I was in just the other day. Well worth a visit. Try the Darkglass amp (if they still have stock!)...

Darkglass M900 vs Darkglass Vintage Ultra and Orange Terror
Bigwan replied to Bigwan's topic in Amps and Cabs
You calleth, Kev cometh! Disadvantage would depend on your tone goals Clearly, by keeping the Orange and using the Vintage Ultra, you don't have the B3K circuit at your disposal, and I must say this circuit combined with the M900 Tone and Gain control really expands the use of that circuit for those who found the pedal too trebly/harsh. The Tone control is very, very useful and I often wonder now why the pedals never incorporated it. I find the amp's drive circuit better and more useful and flexible than the pedals because of these features. Talking clean channels now (or as clean as the Orange gets), having never played through the other amp I can't be sure but I would imagine they are pretty different. The Darkglass is super clean and punchy with the microtubes circuit off, with it on you can add as much or as little grit as you want to great effect, so on the basis of what you will be using the Orange/DG for I would say the M900 is a much more flexible setup. One of the main reasons why I bought the amp is cost, funnily enough. I had a B7K Ultra and a Vintage Ultra on my board, going into a Tecamp head. Selling those three raised enough cash to buy a new M900 and cash to spare, and it has not left me wanting for flexibility at all. I think the M900 is excellent value for what it is, especially compared to the competition. Like I say, I actually prefer the combined drive circuit and tone/gain options on the head. The M900 is also MUCH louder than the Tecamp was, which in turn I thought was very loud compared to the GK and Aguilar amps that came before it. Goes down to 2ohms too, if you ever need it Mesa prices are insane, Ill stick with the relatively bargainous Bergantino, thanks Oh, and show me a sexier looking bass amp on the market.
Pretty much mirrors my thinking. The microtubes engine tone control is a brilliant feature. And while I'd probably use the vintage channel 99% of the time, having the option of the b3k on tap if needed is handy. A bit of a clear-out is required to afford it but I think an M900 is on the cards... -
OK I'll admit I've never really been a huge fan of Darkglass pedals. But yesterday I visited guitarguitar in Glasgow and experienced the Darkglass amp first hand. Impressed would be putting it mildly! Having said that I have never found the Orange Terror I have (actually the 3rd one I've owned) lacking in volume. So, would there be any particular disadvantage to sticking a Darkglass Vintage Ultra in the fx return of the Orange, or should I front up and get the Darkglass amp outright? Anyone have any personal experiences of doing similar (calling Kev!)? I should also say I was very impressed by both the Fender Nate Mendel and the Mesa Subway 1x12 and 1x15 cabs I tried the amp with, even if the new price of the Mesa cabs is extortionate in the extreme. £850 for a 1x12? Err, no...

Welcome to the club! I currently have 2 ACGs. A recurve DC 5 custom and a Finn 4 standard - each is probably the best bass in its class I've ever owned. Previously had a bog standard Recurve Graft 5 which previously belonged to Merton and Black Coffee of this parish and went to Walbassist after me. It sold me on Alan's work. If his "cheap" line of basses was this good, how good must his custom stuff be? Only one thing that bugs me... is ACGs the correct plural? Should it be ACG? ACGi?

If modding is on your mind I wouldn't be looking at a 50's style P myself, I'd stick to the split P variety. More options.
-
Doesn't do 2 ohms I don't think, but that is exactly the thing I mean. Good work sire!
It does, just never been documented correctly.

Some of the other instruments look interesting. Lots of parts builds which should surely beat the estimates. There's a nice parts 50's P there might be worth a punt...

Luther Vandross, Dance With My Father Sentiment is nice and all, but it's sh1te...

Yup that'd work

As it stands, no, not really. But take a DI from the head and plug it into any mixer with a headphone output. Need a dummy load though and possibly an XLR attenuator.

+1 to that. Nice allparts or mighty mite neck will sort you out.
