1. Easily done this sort of thing...
2. I got lucky - was only on the hunt for 3 days when mine appeared on Ebay... and the guy was only 30 miles up the road!
3.
A mixer with at least an aux. From that aux you send everything you want to hear to a headphone amp with your in ear monitors plugged into. When mixing, take the stance that you can only hear what you put into your mix. So if you want bass - you'll have to at least DI to the mixer. If you want drums you'll at least need a single overhead... If you want to hear guitars, you'll have to put a mic in front of the guitar cab. Of course, you can use as little or as many mics as your mixer allows for - but this all adds to set up time - but enables you finer control over your mix. So in short, yes, you could get away with a single mic to capture the ambient sound of the band and a DI feed - but your mix could be so much better.
Makes total sense!
As we are playing small venues I'm going to try having the EV Subs behind me or one of them turned sideways & just use the monitors for top end . Ill let you know when I've blown everything
No point doing that. Sub frequencies are omnidirectional so which way the sub is facing will make no difference.
5. Say the rest of the band are dead against IEMs but I want to give it a shot for myself, what sort of setup would I need? Guessing an ambient mic and bass DI to a little mixer would do it?
6. Paul and Rob's Masterclasses are just jaw-droppingly good...
7. I was on the lookout for one of these for recording downtuned guitar, but an Ibanez RGIB6 turned up instead (28" scale). Also excellent!
8.
Scratch that, the genius eBay store had their stock levels wrong.
That's not even slightly annoying!
9. Err...no. If you have to DIY, start from scratch. You can't polish a turd. All you'll be doing it rolling said turd in glitter...
10. I've owned the Studio 110 and was very impressed with it. I briefly played the 1x15" version, can't remember if it was 150 or 300w. I would say they do a lot of things well, just aren't outstanding at anything! Perfectly acceptable as a monitor I would say.
11. It's like the Monster Speaker Cable vs wire coathanger test all over again...
12. My "old faithful" is an Aria Pro MAB 20/5 string - it would match what you're after too. The neck is more substantial than an Ibanez SR series, but not by much. Really light (mine is about 8 - 8 1/2lbs I would guess - and that's with a heavy Schaller 3D roller bridge). Mine sounds great after nearly 25 years of playing it. Really resonant and a better B string than any bass of it's price has a right to have! Cheap as chips when they come up too.
13. Dood's Dingwall Combustion 5 is pretty close to ticking all your boxes. 45.5mm nut, 4.1kgs, a rather keen price and a bit of a looker...
14.
These are the ones: https://www.amazon.c...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.c...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks!
15.
I just asked him - there are no plans for it to go into production. He says there's not enough demand for the bigger, pricier heads. :-(
That's a pity. Great set of features. I suppose he's unlikely to consider a similar preamp arrangement with lower output power either...
16.
You can buy USB power packs and USB to 9v converters on Amazon. I spent £20 on a 16,000mAh power pack (which is knocking on 3 times the capacity of the old PedalTrain Volto) and £10 on the converter and it's been great. It was more a convenience thing for me - one less mains socket to find and lead to trip over, and quicker to set up/tear down. The only thing I found was that if there was no current draw then the power pack would power off, so if you're using a pedal that is truly off when it's off (if you see what I mean) or only draws a very small amount of power then you might have problems. I found a BDDI or VT Bass don't draw enough, but having a TU-3 in the chain is fine, presumably because it's buffered and the buffer's drawing enough power.
Do you have links to the stuff on amazon by any chance? I know I could search myself but it's always nice to have somebody's say so that a thing works rather than finding something random and discovering for yourself that it doesn't!
17. Hotness! Would love to try a Dingwall with a wenge neck at some point.
18. Status Energy, S3000 or Washburn Status would be my suggestion. You might get an abused S2000 for that money. Or there's a few Westones...
19.
After a fair old while without a fixed setup, here's my current, messy, and now largely DIY setup -
Come now, you can't say they're mostly DIY and not tell us what they all are!
20. It will be draining your other batteries too I bet, just slower... Thought of a power supply for your board? Cheaper in the long run. For the price of 2 sets of Duracells you could get a wee Harley Benton isolated supply...
21. Any idea if the Fortec 700T (the twin channel Ampeg/Fender mashup) that you showed pics of is likely to make production WoT? Interested to see a price on that one...
