1. I wonder if flea had played some slappity slap for Koko would she have done the decent thing and taken the bass off him?
2. Personally I'd be looking at an original, hand built one rather than the more recent PCB effort which is big money considering how it's built. Over £2.5k new for PCB mounted valve sockets... I'd buy a Trinity TripTop myself...
3. Up the budget a little and you're into Lakland 55-01 territory. 19mm spacing and the best neck in the business. Sire V7 is 18mm and it's no slouch either...
4. ...continue to be tempted by one of these... Anybody want an Enabler?...
5. Interested to hear what you think Dan. This one has been on the radar for a while! Always gets mentioned in the same breath as the blueberry... Which is the most awesome driveyness ever for bass if you ask me...
6.
Small room, loud band = hello tinnitus
Sorry, what did you say?...
7. There are a few videos on YouTube, but they are, without exception, pointless crap!
8. Interesting new offering from Engl I spotted while perusing Thomann today: https://www.thomann.de/gb/engl_ironbass_e1055.htm
9.
...a nugget of purest Green.
Nothing really to add to this thread except that that was one of the finest moments in the history of British comedy...
10. Easily done this sort of thing...
11. I got lucky - was only on the hunt for 3 days when mine appeared on Ebay... and the guy was only 30 miles up the road!
12.
A mixer with at least an aux. From that aux you send everything you want to hear to a headphone amp with your in ear monitors plugged into. When mixing, take the stance that you can only hear what you put into your mix. So if you want bass - you'll have to at least DI to the mixer. If you want drums you'll at least need a single overhead... If you want to hear guitars, you'll have to put a mic in front of the guitar cab. Of course, you can use as little or as many mics as your mixer allows for - but this all adds to set up time - but enables you finer control over your mix. So in short, yes, you could get away with a single mic to capture the ambient sound of the band and a DI feed - but your mix could be so much better.
Makes total sense!
As we are playing small venues I'm going to try having the EV Subs behind me or one of them turned sideways & just use the monitors for top end . Ill let you know when I've blown everything
No point doing that. Sub frequencies are omnidirectional so which way the sub is facing will make no difference.
14. Say the rest of the band are dead against IEMs but I want to give it a shot for myself, what sort of setup would I need? Guessing an ambient mic and bass DI to a little mixer would do it?
15. Paul and Rob's Masterclasses are just jaw-droppingly good...
16. I was on the lookout for one of these for recording downtuned guitar, but an Ibanez RGIB6 turned up instead (28" scale). Also excellent!
17.
Scratch that, the genius eBay store had their stock levels wrong.
That's not even slightly annoying!
18. Err...no. If you have to DIY, start from scratch. You can't polish a turd. All you'll be doing it rolling said turd in glitter...
19. Nice!
20. I've owned the Studio 110 and was very impressed with it. I briefly played the 1x15" version, can't remember if it was 150 or 300w. I would say they do a lot of things well, just aren't outstanding at anything! Perfectly acceptable as a monitor I would say.
21. I never thought I'd see the day....
22. Wish i'd the cash for this...
23. It's like the Monster Speaker Cable vs wire coathanger test all over again...
24. My "old faithful" is an Aria Pro MAB 20/5 string - it would match what you're after too. The neck is more substantial than an Ibanez SR series, but not by much. Really light (mine is about 8 - 8 1/2lbs I would guess - and that's with a heavy Schaller 3D roller bridge). Mine sounds great after nearly 25 years of playing it. Really resonant and a better B string than any bass of it's price has a right to have! Cheap as chips when they come up too.
