Just for fun, I bought one. You read all the hype and sometimes get suckered into spending your hard earned on something doesn't do what it says on the tin. Have no fear with this little beastie. Using the dedicated 'bass' channel selector switch it can easily handle anything my Corvette throws at it. Ok, so we are talking 5 WPC (stereo output) but within those 5 W there is the clearest tone I have ever heard from an amp that small, even some of the so called 'practice' amps can't deliver like this does. Really, for home practice it is excellent. You know what happens when you turn down the volume on your gig rig for practice...sounds like sh*t don't it. This baby sounds 'big' but at sensible volumes. If you feel the need, theres a 'phone socket there...just in case. Dare I say it, there's some great guitar sounds on there as well for those so inclined. Lots of options via a USB / computer interface, not my thing really but some may find it interesting. Try one out for yourself but make sure it's the THR 10, not the THR 5 cos the 5 doesn't have the 'bass' channel option. There's also lots of other stuff missing like the USB etc etc. Disclaimer. I have no connection with Yamaha or any retail / wholesale outlets. I'm just a very satisfied owner of said amp.

As long as the plugs are kept clean then you are unlikely to notice the difference between gold and nickel/chrome plating. My preference would be for your first option.
The only thing ruining it for me is that dreadful clear PG. First thing I'd do if I won the bass would be to remove said PG and set fire to it so no-one else could defile such a nice looking instrument with it!
It comes with the original so its no big deal to swap them.........

Not enough to make you soil your pants like some of the stuff posted here but it works for me. Amp is a GK MB210 that I bought off Ebay and arrived today. Can't see the controls as they are behind the Cornell guitar amp. Bass is a Warwick Corvette Active that I bought about 6 yrs ago and now I have a half decent amp I may get get round to learning how to play... The box on top is an Attenuator that I use with the Cornell. The Warwick is the only bass I have but I think that may change very soon.

Now....I dont know how popular Nitro finish is on bass guitars but I would just like to pass on something that may be of interest. Virtuoso polish/cleaner Ebay Seller Virtuoso Website Anyone who has a nitro finish knows how hard it is to keep in good nick. I have used this on my Gibson ES335....(yea, I know its not a bass)....and its damn good stuff. I had a few white marks that I couldnt shift no matter what I tried....thought I would give this a go and lo and behold, white marks are nowhere to be seen. Expensive?, not really, a little goes a long way as they say. If you have a nitro finish that needs a little love, get some. Just to clear up...I am not associated with the seller in any way except as a satisfied customer.
Welcome to the forum, it doesnt matter how crap you might think you are, never pass up the chance to join or form a band cos playing live is the best drug there is, ask anyone here...
An inspirational post, thanks. However, I doubt theres much call for a 55 yr old bass player who can't play.....

Partial solution HERE All I really need now is a decent cab.

Well, I finally got through to Denis...the guy who builds these amps. His verdict...go for it. No risk of damage to the amp itself and as I would have a bass specific speaker plugged in theres no reason to be concerned.

Guys, I have asked a similar question in the Effects section and thanks to everyone that has replied. I wonder how many here use a guitar amp with a bass speaker.....Why bother..well my bass amp is crap....an old Ashdown 65W combo....... Being one of THOSE types that also plays guitar, I have a rather lovely Cornell Romany Valve Guitar amp that makes a realy lovely tone. Just for fun I connected an Ashdown 15 cab and I have to say, I'm quite impressed. The amp seems to be able to handle it very well. It will only ever be used for bedroom practice so vols will be quite low....no gigs or anything like that. So............am I likely to damage the amp or should I be OK. TIA for al replies EDIT...I have answerd part of my question in the post below but would still be interested in anyone who uses this configuration.
