Now, lets see some of your pages!! Thanks Jam p.s. Mods - wasn't sure whether this should be in this forum, on the recording one, so put it in here as i thought it's a bit more general than anything else. Thanks, J

4. Another really awesome tool is bassplayer TV...i've got some wicked stuff from watching the online lessons on there...definately worth a crack!!!
5. Sounds like i'll have to get down to his gigs then...glad i stumbled across him!
6. Yeah, John's gone back to Holland...am i've got the job of trying to keep up with the funk path he followed...tis' fun!!! Haven't got a clue what a Unity night is, sounds interesting though!!!
7.
What bands are they Jamie? My bands are Peterborough based and I know loads of bass players in the local area.
Hi mate, I've just started with Groove Cartel there in Peterborough, i think they already have some people that they dep out to, not sure though. The others don't gig in Peterborough at the moment so you'll not have heard of them. I just had a call for a peterborough based Disco band needing a dep for next Sat, do you know any local players who might be available and up for it? I'm already depping out, so can't do it myself. Thanks Jamie
8.
Thanks - I am concentrating on basses first, but am looking at picking out some really nice backline eventually - I am not a great fan of alot of backilne - I find it too heavy and not great sounding :-(. I would love to check out your gear though :-). M
Wicked...well, just give me a shout when you want to check the gear out, pm me on here or email me at jamie_lynch@hotmail com i really want to get people to know more about the gear i have, it's cool stuff, and sounds, well, to me, just great, i love it!!!
9.
He he - no, I am waiting on Stock, but I used a picys of Gards bass as a teaser. I have a fretted SKB3006 coming in with Buckeye top :-0. Mark
Phew...i'd quite possible have to sell a kidney otherwise!!!
10. Just read that they on there way in...phew Anyway, this is great man, a great idea, great products, great great great great great!!! Although, i happen to think F Bass would be one of the finer luthiers from over yonder, but they're canadian, so i'll let you off!!! Do you plan to stock any backline? If so, may i be so bold as to suggest Thunderfunk amps, and Dr.Bass cabs...not simply because i use them, but because they're wicked pieces of kit...i'd quite happily pop over with my gear for you to test it out!
11. Please don't tell me that the SKB3006 that you have in is fretless, like Gard's from Roscoe...if it is, you're a mean man!
12. Hello everyone, Just a quick one, i'm starting to get quite busy with gigs and what not...i'm in 3 different gigging bands now, with more dep work coming my way. So, i may need to start depping stuff out that i can't cover. I already have a couple of players that i can rely on who are both very busy. On of the bands is based in Peterborough, i joined them recently, a funk band, still learning the set myself, they may already have a dep sorted, not sure though. Another, based here in Grantham, Funk/Soul/Acid Jazz...we're two band really, a covers, and an original...the original stuff wouldn't need depping, the covers may. The other, Birmingham based, the one that i'm going to be very busy with, an out and out functions band, one thing in mind, to make a living from. I'm currently depping for them myself, but they're current bassist is too busy to handle most of the gigs, so i'll be getting most of them as time goes by. They're fairly well connected, so they have a few people to call already should the be bass-less...but if i can help them out i will. That's about it really. These first two gig in and around Peterborough, Grantham, Notts, Leceister, with the occasional gig further affield. The functions band could be gigging pretty much anywhere. I will be honest with you, i can't gaurantee that any work will be passed your way, but it would be handy to know who's available. You'll need to be professional, able to learn sets inside out from a CD recording, and be able to get it together fairly sharpish...typical dep stuff really, but all i can say is that this isn't anything i'd want players who haven't got much experience getting into. My reputation is as much on the line as yours is when you cover...should you cover, etc etc!!! Anyway...i thought i'd put it to you guys, seeing as your my fellow basschat-ter's!!! Leave a message on here, or pm me please. Thanks Jamie
13. Hi mate, Are you taking any trades at all (my Ken Smith...)...if so, what's the spec on the Status? Thanks J
14. Hi all... Just came across this sax dude, with some interesting rap/hiphop/jazz fusion going on...loving it!!! http://www.myspace.com/sowetokinch Check out the live track...i think it's quite cool, might check out one of his gigs...see if he needs a new bassist, lol Thanks Jam
15.
I did mean just the "F bass", preferably Alain Caron model...but a nice fender will do!
Hi mate...i can't make it, so i won't be able to bring my F Bass. I don't know of anyone in the UK with a fretless F Bass, never mind an Alain Caron model, they're soooooooo expensive!!! I'd be happy to meet up some time for a jam though, along with my Marleaux, F Bass, Thunderfunk and Dr.Bass cabs
16. Jean Baudin from Nuclear Rabbit and his solo stuff, he's pretty good with extended range bass malarky!!! Steve Bailey (as dood suggested) is a really cool 6 string player, maybe not your thing though if you're into John Myung and Nitti etc. Erm...players who also use a high C (not neccesserily a 6 string, but 5 strung E - C)...Janek Gwizdala, Tony Grey, Victor Wooten (4 strings, A - C), Matthew Garrison. There's players like Anthony Jackson, Todd Johnson...these are all predominantly jazz players, but they make the high C sound lush!!!
17.
Hi, Have just started playing bass again after a long break. Am currently playing at a level where I am ok but nothing special and don't know how to progress further , any suggestions , basslines I should learn , tips on ear training etc would be welcome , thanks
Hi mate...sorry it's taken a little while for someone to get back to you on this!!! I'd strongly suggest learning some theory, so some basic scales, firstly over one octave, then over 2, then up and down the neck in every possible position, etc. As for ear training, try working out some tunes that you want to learn, don't throw yourself in too deep...or at least, if you're trying to work out something solid, just start with finding the tonic (bass note of the chord/root note)...then work from there. Other good exercise would be to try and learn some basic chords, start with bar chords like you would on a guitar and then record a little sequence of them (within a choosen key)...then try to create a bass line to go with them, and in turn, a melody/solo. Some of this may seem a little none bass-ish, but it's all great stuff. A really helpful tool is a looper...i couldn't live without my Boss RC-20XL now, it's priceless for me!!! Also, play to a metronome, timing is everything...i spent too many years playing without any time keeping device, and as a consequence, when i came to start taking my playing more seriously, my timing was an issue...if you get used to playing to a metronome though, you're timing will be spot on! Also, don't be in a hurry to try playing things fast, start slow, and build up speed, this will make you a far more accurate player, and you'll shred a lot better later on, rather than poorly a lot quicker and have shoddy technique for a lot longer!!! What sort of music/songs are you into? Do you play in any bands? If any of the above doesn't make any sense to you, just say so, i'll happily go into more detail/provide chord fingerings etc. Just ask Thanks Jamie
18.
Check out the PPL who pay out performance royalties for more info. If you play on a track that is aired you are entitled to a cut (even though in most cases it will be very very minimal) PPL Also have a read of this for an explanation of royalties and how they are paid and when etc: How it works
Hi mate...are you absolutely sure on this. As i understand it, you only get royalties if you have credits...i'm just signing up on PPL due to having had material released...but as far as i'm aware, you only get money if you have credits...i'll be very happy if i'm wrong though All i need to do then is to get on some decent sessiosn
19. As has been stated already really...going by what you've said, you're not eligible for any song share/credits, the only 'credit' you are eligible for is to have your name on the song sleeve to show that you played bass for that song. When people see that, if they like the bass line, they'll get in touch with you, that's as good as you can ask for. The only circumstance in which you'll gain song share is if you actually have an active share in writting the song, e.g. the singer has the lyrics, but no music, you may come up with a groove that you then turn into a chord sequence and add a melody, you've just written the music, so you get song share on that!!! But if the singer has a chord structure, and you come up with a killer groove, you've been inspired by their chords, and you were just doing your job as a bass player, not as a composer!!! I guess there is a fine line though...but in general, you'll either be brought in to play bass, in which case you get your session fee, or you'll be brought in to help produce and write material, this may also include laying down a bass line, but you'll get credits for the production and composing that you do! Hope that helps.
20. Pm replied to kind sir!
21. Thanks...it is a pretty wicked bass, both in looks and tone!!! I personally think it's one of the better jazz basses i've played, that's why i've kept it for a few years...but funds need to be raised to pay for van troubles and other bits and bobs...so on with the sale!!! Thanks for the comment though!
22.
I'll be jazzing things up with The Adrian Astor Quintet this Thursday evening at The Crown, Richmond Road, Twickenham. Free entry, with music starting at 8:30pm. It would be great to have some bassists in the crowd (especially anyone interested in some depping opportunitues). Wulf ps. sample tunes should be up on the band's new MySpace site in the next day or two
Hi mate, Shame i can't get to this one, sounds like it'll be cool...if you needed a dep though, i may well be interested. Let me know. Jam
23.
Cheers, I'll have to check them out when I am about MK.
Yeah man, let me know when you're going to be about, i'll try and make it down there. There's one this Thursday in Woburn...let me know when there are any going on in Birmingham. I was rehearsing at Fatback Studios last night, they need air con badly man!!!
24. Hey man...it was in a village between MK and Buckingham...check out: www.indigojazz.co.uk there's info on there about the jam...also, at Black Cats in Northampton, every Tuesday there's supposed to be a wicked jazz jam!!!
25. I went to a jazz jam last Weds, just to check it out and see what's what...ended up being the house bassist for the night, taking solos, doing it all...not very well mind Loved it though!!! That was near Milton Keynes, so about 90mins from me!!! I also go to a jam night in Birmingham at the Adam & Eve, although, like 3V17C said, it's not strictly a get up a jam night, it's mainly a chance from different groups to get up and have fun, having said that, everyones more than welcome to get up with eachother, on the most part anyway, last time i was there we had some conga dudes and the drummer and i were jamming away with them, before you knew it there were vocals and guitar being thrown in...great stuff!!! Jam nights are wicked though, great for meeting new musos, and a really wicked learning experience, can't beat that!!! It's just a shame that i have to travel so far to get a jam night!!!!
