1. Hi guys, Thinking of selling my Jazz as i don't really use it enough to warrent keeping it, i'll miss it if i sell it, but the cash could be put to some use elsewhere at the moment. It's a genuine USA model, with an Ash body, maple neck and fingerboard as you'll see. It's in good condition, there are some knocks on the neck, but nothing that case discomfort or detract from it's value/looks. It's a '99 model if i recall correctly. I bought it 2nd hand about 2years ago. I had the gallery give it a fret stone and set-up last month which cost me near on £100, but it plays absolutely amazingly now, i mean, it's in serious slap heaven, and grooves like you wouldn't believe. Pics: As for pricing...i'm not too sure, but given the fact that it's just had a serious amount of money spent on it, and it's only added to it's playing experience, i'm going to ask £595 which include the Fender hardcase, truss rod allum key and strap with strap locks (case has a catch missing and has had a knock which chipped a small section out about the size of a 50p coin, still protects the bass more than adequately). Please feel free to ask any question should you have any Thanks Jamie
2. A platent plug here...but i've got my Ken Smith BSRB Deluxe 5 up for grabs if you're interested?
3. Hi all, Not had this long, i wasn't that keen on it to begin with, but i've since set it up and it's just awesome, the tone is beautiful, but unfortunately, the bank account isn't looking that great so unless i can work things out, this will have to go!!! I've currently got it setup for E - C tuning, but i can quite happily restring it B - E and adjust the action where neccessery. I don't know much about these basses, but here's some pics, and below them, the blurb from the Ken Smith website. I'll be looking to get what i paid for it back, so £750 which includes the built like a brick hardcase (which is a bit tatty in places, but it does the job and is probably the best hardcase i've ever owned). Hardware and Electronics are the same as in the Burner Series. The Standard and Deluxe models have a 3-pc Laminated Hard Rock Maple Neck. 4. Hi Mike, Your fretless tone is absolutely beautiful here...loving it! What set-up did you use to record it/pickup pan? Sounds like you favoured the back pickup to my ears? Sounds cool though mate!!! Jamie
5. Glad you're keeping hold of the F Bass mate, they're wicked basses.
6.
Hi The band is based in spalding lincs. Drummer must be click friendly and prepared for touring, this is a serious project with management and an album release in august to promote. wiz
Do you have a myspace link or anything like that to pass on to him?
7.
I used to get Tony Grey confused with Janek Gwizdala in my early MySpace browsing days- 2 Fodera wielding, beanie hat wearing Brits doing good in the US and all that. Loving Janek's playing. Tony ain't no slouch it seems either.
Yeah i know what you mean...they both seem to have a similar sort of thing going on, i struggle to pick out who's who when listening sometimes...the Fodera's have a really distinctive tone when you hear them more, but you can definately make out who's who when you hear more of each player. But yeah, Janek is wicked...managed to catch one of his gigs last month, and a lesson...he know's his stuff, really inspirational at the moment. Think Janek is arranging another tour over here at the moment...looking forward to that. He's trying to sort out a few more northern gigs too...so if anyone know's of any decent venues up north i'm sure he'll appreciate you dropping him an e-mail with info!!!
8. Yeah i was gutted that i didn't make the Tony Grey gig, i only found out the day after the last night at Ronnie's...gargh!!! I've only recently started to get into his playing really, got his album yesterday, and got John McLaughlin's Industrial Zen (thanks for the tip off on that, got Hadrien's too...not bad, some quirky stuff). Sounds like the day wasn't that wicked then, shame...i need to get more gigs in Nott's, i live 25 mins from it and haven't ever gigged there, would be cool to see if there's a jazz scene, not sure. Are we going to get a Tony Grey interview in the next bass mag then? Should be wicked man!!! Really enjoyed your Bona one in the current issue, quite insightful really, i bought a load of his albums this month, can't say that i dig them that much, but it's interesting to listen to and see what he's about...i guess it mainly streches back to his culture, so from the point of view, it's inspirational, and his voice is amazing! Did you get a chance to interview Janek while he was over here?
9. Hi Mike...in Nottingham hey, if the weathers no good, i might be over in Notts, it isn't too far from me. If not, i'll be sure say hi at one of these gigs...hoping to get the Stern and Jenkinson gigs!!! Hooray for hardcore bassage and other low end happenings! Just while we're talking bass player giggings...John Patitucci is in the UK in November, he's doing a gig up in Scotland with a Chamber band on upright, but will probably hit some venues for some hardcore bassage too...wicked
10. I reckon that Janek Gwizdala gets over looked by some players, maybe that's because he's doing some far out jazz stuff, but he's a serious serious player, and pushing the bass to it's limits!!! I think for tone, Paul Turner is serverely underrated, his tone is so hot it's unbelievable, i don't think he gets enough credit!!! Any finally, from what i have heard of his playing, Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher) is a monster player!!! Just a few...mayber Hadrien Feraud as well, although, i think he's pretty new on the scene, but he's got some serious chops!!! Jamie
11. Having had a day jammin with Geoffbassit...we've both agreed that my F Bass, whilst being a very modern instrument, is totally kickass in the vintage department, they really nail the whole fingerstyle funk jazz sound!!!
12. Hi mate, i'm in Grantham, where abouts are you, i may know a drummer here who's interested...although, my drummers pretty much tied up, but he's kick ass!
13. This is a good thread... I'm currently in a debate over what i'm GAS'ing for... The next bass i get will be my main instrument and be geared up for jazz/r'n'b/funk gigs, where slap won't be needed...so i was thinking of another F Bass with a narrower spacing, but, i'm now thinking (after falling more in love with my fretless one) a Marleaux M Bass 5 string (tuned E A D G C), with a ramp, 16mm spacing and 33/34" scale length with some wicked woods!!! Marleaux make serious serious basses guys, the tone and feel of mine is absolutely outstanding, i much prefer it to my F Bass at the moment. The electronics kick big bottoms too, it's passive tone is so sweet!!! So yeah, a Marleaux M Bass, thated do me, a European version of the Fodera beasts J
14. Hi mate...wicked wicked gigs lined up or what!!! I'm hoping to get to at least the Stern and Jenkinson gigs...they'll be awesome, the living colour one would be nuts too...although, having to travel up and down up and down might do me in a little too much Thanks for the heads up on these. J
15. Cancel the DJ5 order and get the F Bass man, you will not regret it, they're phenominal instruments!
16. Thanks for that guys!! The Funk - I'll not be down there on the 31st mate, thanks for the invite though. As for the gigs in Time Out...i spotted the 606 and Pizza express gigs, don't think either particularly appeal though, although the 606 is a wicked venue, saw Janek Gwizdala there last month...amazing! The night at the Notting Hill Arts club sounds quite cool though, has any heard any of the bands play, or been to the venue, if so, what are your thoughts? Jamie
17. Hi all, Just wondered...i'm going to be down in London this bank holiday Monday (28th May) and i'm looking for a gig to go to with a few friends, probably jazz/funk/soul sort of thing... Can anyone reccommend any bands that are playing on Monday, or any good venues worth contacting to see what's on? I'd like to check out the Mingus big band at Ronnie Scotts, but £36 a pop is a little too much Thanks in advance... Jamie
18. Hi all, Sooo...i'm going to make and install a ramp on my Ken Smith BSRB...i've bought myself a block of ebony, but haven't really got a clue what to do? I spoke with Ped and we agreed that for now, the best way to fix the ramp when it's constructed, is by using the sticky tap that you attach car number plates with, seems like a good idea, as i don't want to start having to make holes, at least with some strong tape i'll only ever have to give it a real good clean should i need to remove it! The wood, it's come covered in wax, any ideas on how best to remove this wax? As for making the actual thing, i guess it's just simply a case of making the measurements, cutting it to size, sanding down the cuts, and then fixing it...am i right? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Jamie
19. Hi there, Just a thank you firstly for offering this to us guys, it's very helpful. My dad does something similar to you, but he's not quite as knowledgable in the whole marketing for music and what not areas, so i'll ask you Firstly, is it possible for you to check out my myspace page www.myspace.com/bassjamm...i'm starting to get more work as a bass player, and i want to turn pro. So i'd like people to find that page if possible, and to get my name about a bit more...can this happen with it being a myspace page? Secondly, i'm looking to build myself, and my band, some websites. I've very little knowledge of html and all of that gumph, but i am very particular with graphics and what not and a bit picky. As you'll see on my myspace page, i can edit images and stuff and get an image to look ok, but that's not building websites. You mentioned using a ready made template, will i be able to edit a template enough to incorporate editted images etc? Back to the what i want from the sites...for my personal one, it'll be to complement my myspace page in that i want to get more work from it, it to look really slick and cool, and to portray me in a very professional manner. For the band, we're looking to get some serious originals gigs, we want to have a very cool image, and we also want to be found by promoters, agencies, managers, but not party land ones, ones looking to promote good cool original stuff. Does that make sense? Hope i'm not being too cheaky by asking so much. Thanks again, Jamie
20. Thanks guys. I've also been in contact with the studio tech at Saville's (my band) studio, he said that there's not much between USB 2.0 and Firewire, so that brings an Digidesign Mbox 2 back in the line up...wahooo! As for the Celinder mate...you'll have to give me first dibs on that beast ahead of the luthier, surely? lol!
21. Thanks Kiwi...so in short...firewire is faster. How does that effect the use of an interface then, does it mean that the computer simply gets the information quicker, or is there a case of quality? Jamie p.s. did you end up with Steve's Update 4, if so, how's it playing, i'd have bought if i had the money, it's un stoppable for slapping man!
22. Hi all, Looking to get an interface, but I don't really understand the advantages of going with either a USB or Firewire interface, can anyone help me with this? Thanks Jamie
