Loud Pop through speaker , when switching on / off
petetexas replied to petetexas's topic in Repairs and Technical
A guy at Peavey has got back to me , and suggests that I get in touch with the service / repair guys at Corby , and ask them about plugging in the speaker after switching on the amp . Rang Peavey at Corby , but the engineers are away at some show till next week . The guy on the phone did say that Solid State Power sections do not have an output transformer ( valve amps do ) I'll give them a ring next week . Confused now........ Pete -

Loud Pop through speaker , when switching on / off

Volume on zero ( main and pre amps ) graphic switched out . When switching it on / off at the mains , the pop is quieter . I was always told that with Solid State Power amps , no speaker connected is the same as having an infinate resistance ? I`ll get in touch with Peavey and see what they say . Thanks guys -

Hi , I just got hold of an old Peavey T Max Head , when its running its quiet but when I switch it on or off , there is a loud pop through the speakers .( Its an old Solid State amp ) The way I get over it is to connect the speakers after switch on . Anyone any suggestions ? Pete -

Hi Andy, Just a lucky find ............. BUT...........I read about someone replacing his Hartke 10 inch drivers with FaitalPRO 10FE200 ( 150W x 8 Ohm ) , and saying how amazing these are for £35 from Lean Business Audio, so I got one and put it in the Trace Combo......IMHO Its brilliant ( not nasal as with the Celestion ) so I have an empty SM7 ( with very fluffy covering ) case available at the same price I bought it at . I now have a heavey combo again , but sounding MUCH better IMHO . The way I held the Amp in the sleeve was with two wood screws through the sleeve into the base of the amp case MAKING SURE THER WAS NO BOARDS OR CABLES in the way . This stopped the case moving around . Pete

UPDATE......... With the TF 1020 it sounded very nasal.....and its too heavy to move around , so got a SM7 sleeve on ebay and installed the amp in it , now its a 80W head that I can link up to any 8ohm cab..............I already have a Mesa 112 subway and a Epifani 112 lightweight . Seems to suit the Epifani better (seems even louder now). Pete

Just purchased a BLX80 from ebay , made in 1997 . Arrived with a blown speaker which the seller did not know about ( ! ! ! ! ! ! ) . Tried it out as a head with my Mesa 112 subway cab ..............VERY LOUD for an 80w , and great variety of sound GP7 SM preamp. Read somewhere that the replacement 10 inch driver is a celestion TF 1020 , bought one , and fitted it . Now got a great practice amp , but I need to do some weight training to move it around . Anyone else got one on here ? Pete

The Bass or wall hanger ?
-
Recon I have solved it...................... Put a wrap of "REAL" duck tape (3M - not the cheap stuff from ebay ) around the bits in contact with the headstock...............did this two weeks ago , seems to be no reaction .

Hi Acebassmusic, Have you tried facebook forum for the Headrush Gigboard , I found them very helpfull . Just post a question, and there is usually someone who can answer. Even try sending a message to Headrush themselves , they are a bit slow to answer , but usually do . Pete

Hi, Anyone found a wall guitar hanger that does not react on contact points with GIBSON basses, and cause the Lacquer to melt? My LP Tribute has now got to go to my local Guitar tech to be repaired. Does not happen with my FENDERS, GUILD or TOKAI ! Pete
