Thanks for the advice, seems like a good plan, I think a bit of heat may help too. I bought the later set to supply a new string post but it seems a shame to butcher one if I can avoid it. I still hope to find a replacement but am offering the full set as swap, someone may have one lurking in a drawer somewhere! I will let you know I get on.

Yes £49.00 is all you need to become the new owner of this Kramer Focus 420S. The Kramer 420S is a full sized bass and is relatively light weight so an ideal transition from a beginners short scale. It is broadly a 'P' bass format with the body is finished in two tone sunburst and is in good condition with the odd mark as you expect from a used instrument. I do not think it has had much use. The neck is maple or similar with a rosewood fretboard. The truss rod is free to turn and will tighten further if need be. The hardware is finished in black and is all in good working condition. I bought this for my Son to learn on but it is too big so he now has a Squier Bronco which suits much better. It is on Ebay but I would rather it went to someone one Basschat if anyone has need of a cheap starter bass. I am in Weston-super-Mare but will post/courier at cost if you want it. Angus.

I have a Kramer 450B with a damaged Schaller M4 Machine head on the treble side. The string post has broken at the base of the slot. I have been looking for a replacement but this type are a bit scarce. Schaller say they can be dismantled but only by destroying the inscribed cover on the back. I just wondered whether anyone has managed to get one apart without destroying the cover, it is a push fit apparently. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any one has a spare one I would be interested in buying or swapping for the full set of later M4's seen below. Angus. This is what I need These are available for a swap. I am looking for a replacement Schaller M4 machine head for a Kramer 450B from the early 80's (the one with the aluminium neck). This type has the circular cover on the back of the body inscribed with the Schaller 'S' and 'Made in W Germany'. These were also fitted to a number of other high end bases of the period. I require a replacement for the treble side, G string. For exchange I have an excellent set of four Schaller M4 tuners from a later bass, these have a 'D' shaped cover on the back and mounting pin lug in a different position to the earlier type. I am prepared to swap the full set of four tuners for a single earlier type if anybody has one. These sell for between £30 and £60 a set. If you have a spare knocking around in a drawer please do let me know, I have been looking for one of these for a couple of years. Please check the photos for the position of the mounting pin lug as this is critical on the 'forked head' bass. Thanks, Angus These are available for trade- all four This is what I need

This is a bit of a feeler really. I have for trade a Kramer Focus 420s, P Bass style guitar. Bought recently for my son to learn on, a full size bass is still a bit of a struggle for him so I wondered whether anyone has a short scale bass that they might like to trade. The Kramer is a few years old but does not appear to have been used much as its previous owner was a synth player. It is in good working condition, two tone sunburst, black scratchplate and hardware with a rosewood fingerboard. PM me with offers if you are interested and I will get some photos to you. I am in the West country.

Hi Louder, Greetings from sunny Weston-super-Mare, nice chaps on here (other Basschatters that is not the leather trousers)!

I picked up an aluminium necked 450B recently off Ebay. It was my dream guitar as a student in the early 80's, but I could not afford the price tag. Great bass and a bit different to the run of the mill. You see people asking crazy amounts of money for these, though if you bide your time you should be able to pick one up for under £250, I did! Not sure about the moderns, would be interested to try one.

I didn't notice until you pointed it out, bit of an oversight.

Just wondered if anyone knows any background about these necks? Seem to be well priced if ok: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BASS-NECK-ROSEWOOD-JAZZ-PRECISION-STYLE-BASSES-/120813760576?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item1c210fb040#ht_720wt_1165 I am considering a Jazz special and these have a nice vintage look, don't know if they are any good though. Comments please!

Hi All, Just wanted to say hello, been a BC member for a while but only just getting around to introducing myself. Returning to the bass after nearly 20 years, my previous bass was a custom Jazz that I built myself using a Double Eagle neck, SD Quarter Pound J pups and a Schaller roller bridge. I made the body from a slab of Brazilian Mahogany from a chap in Bristol who's father bought the tree way back in history, sounded fantastic but was alas sold when times were hard. The parts were bought from Bristol Guitar Workshop now long gone I suspect as is another favourite haunt of the time, Bristol Musical in Redland run by a great chap called Brian (I think) who didn't seem bothered about a bunch of skint youths spending much of their Saturday afternoons abusing his gear for free. I last played around Bath in the mid 80's in a funky outfit just for fun. Having picked a up bargain Kramer 450B on ebay - the bass of my dreams when a youth but way too expensive for a student in the early 80's, I am getting back into it. Somehow I know deep down I can be good again but the left hand seems to be playing a different song to the right at the moment, compounded by the Kramer being fretless! Amplification is now provided by a Roland Micro Cube from another BC'er to get me started, a bit a change from the H&H monster back in the 80's but a great little amp for home. Great community here on Basschat. Thanks.
