Original Beatles 60’s Vox Bass Rig I'm selling my Vox Super Foundation Bass Rig. This is the amp that Paul McCartney used with the Beatles for recording Norwegian Wood, Day Tripper and Lady Madonna, and there may well be others, although these are documented (Based on some quick research). Prior to me purchasing this rig, it had one owner from new, and is all original. A fine example of a super rare, matched rig. Amp Head VOX SUPER FOUNDATION BASS. Serial Number 2680, which I believe, from research (I’m no expert, so please check for yourself), that this dates from 1967-1968, although they are not always entirely accurate, from what I’ve read. Twin channel, 200Watt Solid State Head. The ‘Big One’. Effects and distortion knobs, footswitch, plus controls and inputs for each channel. The cloth is all intact, and in excellent condition, the corner protectors are all original, with VOX decals. The top grilles are also original with VOX decals. Handle again is original, with VOX decal. All parts are original. ‘VOX’ badge, and ‘Super Foundation Bass’ badge are intact and original. Rear, metal, serial number plate label intact. Channel 1 is not working (?), although as its solid state there isn’t much to check/repair, sadly I don’t have the knowledge for such things, its been like this since I bought it, and I just haven’t got round to looking at it, and if I’m honest, probably never will. I originally bought this to pair, and display with a Hofner Violin Bass, but it never materialised! Speaker Cabinet VOX SUPER TWIN FOUNDATION BASS, Serial number 327, which I believe, from research (I’m no expert, so please check for yourself), that this dates from 1967-1968, although they are not always entirely accurate, from what I’ve read. It was purchased brand new with the head, so assume dating is consistent. 2x15” Vertical stacked speakers, the diamond cloth is all intact, with some scuffs expected with this age, and in very good condition, no rips or holes, the corner protectors are all original, with VOX decals. All parts are original. Vertical ‘VOX’ badge, and ‘Super Twin Foundation Bass’ badge are intact and original. Rear, metal, serial number plate label intact. Cab comes with original trolley casters on rear, and metal holding stands to front. The top comes with the original chrome tubular handlebars, used to push/pull the unit around (despite its size, this addition is an extremely simple design, and makes the unit easy to transport around. These chrome tubular bars also act as the support cradle for the amp head, which locates itself on top. These original chrome stands are extremely sought after in their own right. Overall, this is a fantastic, all original, rarely seen, and importantly, a perfectly matched vintage sixties Vox bass rig, cosmetically it shows it's age with the expected wear and tear but nothing major wrong as the pictures show. The unit is quite large and so local pick-up is the only sensible option available, which can be arranged from Cambridge . It’s large, but the cab fits on the backseat of my Mondeo (Yes, i know, sorry about that ), so you don’t need to rent a HGV!! I‘m not big on amps (Vintage guitars is my thing), so have based the price on recent sales prices on similar items, and after some advice from someone far more knowledgable. So if you're interested, please make an offer of what it's worth to you. I need to sell this rig, as i need the space, so get in touch. Apparently worth around £1200 Uber cool rig though, wish I had the space to keep it. Thanks for looking.
I cant hear any bass on Eleanor Rigby?
No idea, not a fan myself ( ), took that from one of the Vox site's when i was doing some research, they seem to know their stuff. Maybe they were referring to the tracks recorded during that session, when this rig was used, which would make sense. Not my bag at all, you're talking to the wrong guy if you're talking Beatles.
Really like these, but ain't buying unless it gets the 54 spec countoured body. If they did that and gave it the "roadworn" treatment, I can't help but feel they'd sell shedloads of them. Or they take that poxy Sting logo off the other one Bass direct had a trans white 54 style, custom shop model, a while back... I'd have killed you all for it
Thats exactly what i wanted, so I assembled my own. Bought a Sting and a '51 reissue bass, swapped necks, sold the one i didnt want, and made this; This is the sting body, with the swapped neck; Here's the finished body relic'd' New decal over the finish; Some pics of the 'fake' checking; And it wouldn't be complete without period correct large string ferrules; Looks the part, even on close inspection.
Blonde is slightly translucent...? Good call re: the relic route. That's the way I would go, too...
The majority of 68-74 Tele's were in white blonde, as stated in the OP. This finish is not transluscent like the 50's blondes, so the patch job, and refin should be fine, and it will look fabulous when finished, nice project, sure you'll have fun doing it. I have an original '68 Tele Bass pickguard, its the white one with the pearl back, very scarce indeed, most of them gassed and disintegrated. I'm saving it though, as i also want an original blonde tele bass, to go with my other two, and i know when i find the right one, chances are the guard will be gone. You'll be stretched to find another, but there are many good repro's out there. Original 60's thumbrests are much easier to source. Good luck with the project, look forward to seeing the finished article.

Had a day off today, so decided to take some pics of some of my basses that i havent previously had time to take apart and photograph, can think of nothing better to do, its a rare treat to have time to tinker with my toys! My '56 (It's actually a 1/57 bass, neck and body both dated 1/57, but i call it a '56 when talking about it, so people know its the single coil version, anyway, here's a couple of pics, body is crazed to hell!!! Very cool, fell in love with it all over again today!!
Yep, you got it wrong. But apology accepted.
OK my bad, time of the month!! I'll reiterate my apology. Soon be Christmas.....
what sarcy comment? A post suggested trawling the music shops, so if we know the location a nearby basschatter could be up for joining in. Entirely relevant to the thread. Not sure why you think I haven't experienced friendly basschatters?
I think your reply was taking the piss, if not I've got it wrong. My bad. I've read it again, and it sounds like you are sarcastically implying that no-one would be interested in trawling local music shops for someone else. If you were being serious, then i apologise, doesnt read that way though, to me anyway.
-
this, because there's probably a friendly neighbourhood basschatter near you who wouldn't object to trawling the music shops with you.
errr, No, because i know someone who has a Squire Jazz bass, 5 years old, never played, with a Trace Elliott green carpet Boxer 65 combo, again untouched, and wants pennies for the set, so if this guy was local, it might work. Trying to help someone out, but as usual, not able to do that on BC without some sarcy comment from someone with no relevance to the thread. In future i will stick to responding to specific threads i'm interested in, and not waste time actually bothering to try and help people.who are new on here, and could maybe do with some advice, or a bargain pointing in their direction. Location is quite important when buying/selling gear, especially cheap gear, as the cost of shipping can often be more than the price of the gear. And yes, there are some friendly basschatters on here, although you probably havent experienced that, i wonder why?

I'm an Ibanez fan so might search for some 2nd hand's
This is a cool looking bass for the price, and Ibanez too...
Don't expect that to go out the house let alone offered for sale
Unlikely, and i hope i never need to sell it. I spent many years buying/selling/trading and upgrading to be in a position to get an original '52 in this condition, I certainly won't let it go without a fight!

Unsurprisingly, my '52.
