You only need a curved board if you're going to play it with a bow.
Ah, ok, makes sense, must be hard to play on a flat board though, my hands getting cramp just thinking about it!! -
Anybody ever seen one, or did i dream it ?
As the guys say, it was the '53 to '56 Gibson EB1's that had the spike, definitely not the Fenders. Wouldn't these need a curved board though, to play it upright, otherwise it would be near impossible to play, no? I've only played one EUB, and a double bass, both have curved boards, not flat, like a P??? -
1964 Precision bass , L series serial number Original Sunburst finish , with good honest wear Brazillian rosewood fretboard , minimal fret wear Tortoiseshell scratchplate Transition logo Original chrome bridge and pick up covers (ashtrays) Original hard shell fender case with orange plush lining All original electrics with the exception of changed tone pot Very light , plays like butter , very cool old bass £5000 link for photos , see http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/equip...ision-bass.html
Nice bass, is the finish definitely original, these are normally 2-tone under the guard. Also, the tuners are definitely recent reissues. Nice looking P-Bass though, love the sunbursts. Good luck with the sale.
Yikes. The listing makes it out to be real rocking-horse-sh*t stuff, while there's actually another 1960 lefty Precision on eBay right now. Rare coincidence, or do these things crop up all the time? I know nothing of vintage Fender lefties.
the sunburst '60 P-Bass is super rare, and you probably wont see another like that, in that condition, for another 10 years. Yes, its pricey, but then rarity dicates value on collectible instruments. If you're a lefty, then vintage (Pre-CBS) gear seldom turns up at all, let alone in such fine order. The gold one is also extremely rare, but has clearly had a bit of work done, and the price reflects that. Regarding coincidence, i would say yes. I havent seen 2 slabboard, lefty, P-Basses for sale at the same time....ever. The sunburst is as the listing makes out, top order collectible. Unfortunately their are probably few left handed vintage players/collectors with this much change in their pocket. Is it rare?.......yes, incredibly.
Looks like you have too many there Rick, might as well have a bit of a clear out & sell a few off cheap
I'm selling a '55 at the mo, not a gold guard yet though.
I think the other one is virtually 'as new' and even has all the original case candy!
Here's my '59, it also has all the original case candy, tweed case, original strap, original cable, '58-'59 catalog, and the original 1958 fender bass manuals (Vol1 & 2). The blondes are rarer though, the rosewood neck version even more so, although the maple ones are nicer IMHO. Click to enlarge...

Don’t miss this chance. Find another one in the UK! There are 2 extra holes by the bridge, which have been professionally filled prior to the refinish. These are not visible when the chrome cover is fitted. Currently strung with flatwounds. I need to sell this bass to fund another purchase. Strongly advise serious bidders to view this exceptional bass. Can be viewed in Northampton, fairly central (J15 of the M1) or possibly Cambridge. I'm not a shop or music store, so please understand this. Cash on collection preferred, that way it’s a secure and honest transaction for all parties. Any other methods of payment must be discussed first, no exceptions. I’ve included all the important information and pictures, but please ask any questions before bidding. No tyre-kickers or time wasters, bid to buy, not to try. If you’re serious though, please come and have a look, have a play, have a beer, or a coffee. I have a ’59 4x10 tweed Bassman you can play it through. Thanks for looking. Looking for £5999.99 exactly!
I guess what I've got in mind is why you'd allow a dealer to advertise a bass for sale that they don't actually have to sell.
Like i said above, they wanted to generate interest in their shop, dealers do it all the time. This is their last listing of it. Call them, they will say its been sold.

Anyone own one of these, or played one?? SWR Silverado, 4x8 combo. I'm considering one, as they are more portable than a 4x10 or 12 (Obviously!), and they seem good value???
I swapped this with Bassman Sam last month, its a beautiful bass that had at some point been stripped and refinished natural, the finish had worn through on the front and back. I wanted to refinish it black (57 period correct AND RW like) so I took it to trusty Dave Wilson who did the original RW P I built. Stripped with a sleepy Mr Blues The back was particularly bad with the buckle rash exaggerating the grain just on the body contour and when Dave worked on it he has had to do a lot of building to retain the contour line but all looks fantastic. This is how it looks with the body filled and under coated. Getting exciting now
Not wishing to be geeky about things, but a '57 P-Bass would be 2 tone sunburst, with a maple neck. Black wasn't available on P's until early 60's. That said, black/rosewood if thats your thing will be very cool. Good luck with the build, great resto work so far. Not familiar with him, but from these pics, Dave Wilson's obviously a name to remember
Your '52 has been on ebay for a while now, so I guess you're open to offers ? http://cgi.ebay.com/FENDER-1952-PRECISION-...e1#ht_757wt_907
I actually bought it 3 weeks ago, from the owner. He had it on consignment at New Kings Road for £18500, and Music Ground for £21000. I made the owner an offer he couldnt refuse. I'd been negotiating with him for 6 months, since i first became aware of it. New Kings Road wanted it to stay on their website to generate interest in their other stock. I agreed to allow that for a bit. I know the guys down there quite well, having bought basses from them, so had no problem. I'm certainly not looking to sell it, its the best example i've even seen, either in person or in any books/publications. Having said that.....everything has it's price doesnt it, what did you have in mind??? Rick
