  1. £165 incl post for UK. Nordstrand NJ4SE hum cancelling pickups - jazz bass. Matched set neck and bridge. Drop-in replacement for Fender American Deluxe, Elite and Ultra. Not stacked coils, but side-by-side, so closer to a Jazz single coil sound. I paired them with a JRetro pre, great sound. Excellent condition, just a few scuffs on the plastic covers which are replaceable. I have left the wire uncut, so it is the same length that came from Nordstrand. The sound is single coil, but with dual side-by-side coils, so no hum. From Nordstrand - Rude, rough, and radical, this aggressive split coil design will chomp its way through any live or recorded mix. The NJ4SE uses the same hand wound pattern as our other NJs, but is given its midrange heft through the use of a finer enamel wire. The character of this pickup comes down to a pronounced lower midrange and slightly muted high end, which makes it exceptionally suited for finger style players who might want a solo bridge pickup that has a bark that bites. The NJ4SE is bred for the stage, where its hum-canceling clarity and boisterous presence will slaughter any noise that dare desecrate the circumference of its sonic facility. Technical Details: Hum-canceling split coil jazz-type bass pickup. Alnico V magnets. 19mm string spacing standard. Drop-in J replacement pickups. Available in black plastic covers. Laser cut bobbins. Wax-potted to contain any unruly frequency that may attempt to desecrate your desired tone. Bridge Length: 3.73” (94.74 mm) Width: .72” (18.29 mm) Neck Length: 3.60” (91.44 mm) Width: .72” (18.29 mm)

  2. Hi, I like the look of the p-retro, but I don't need the rechargeable battery as my P bass already has a battery box. So has anyone tried to run the preamp with a standard 9v pp3, and without the stock rechargeable battery?
  3. I It sounds great. Very loud, lot's of low end. The only thing is that it's low to the floor, so it needs to be raised.
  4. J-RETRO 01 DELUXE - £165 incl post within UK. Excellent condition, I can't find any marks. Drop-in fit for Fender USA deluxe, elite and ultra jazz basses - with jack sockets on the side of the bass. This is the flat response version with the screw fit for the pickup wires - so no soldering needed. The J-RETRO 01 DELUXE is designed to fit directly into ‘jazz’ style deluxe basses, without modification to the instrument in most cases. Its high quality circuit uses three stacked and one single knob. Controls and function include an active blend circuit, 3 band equaliser with bass, variable frequency mid, treble plus bright function, and a passive tone, which functions in both active and passive modes. The active blend circuit prevents the loss associated with many passive basses where, when both pickups are up full, the signal from one pickup feeds into the other and vice versa. However, a switch is included to allow a passive equal mix of both pickups. A second switch – basic “get-you-out-of-trouble” passive mode is included in case the battery dies in crucial circumstances, and this mode allows some useful settings too. EASY TO FIT, NO ROUTING OR MODS TO MOST J DELUXE STYLE BASSES.
  5. Just a follow-up. I've ended up getting a Mesa Boogie subway 115. Plugging the GK Legacy 800 into the cab...instant bass goodness. All the GK controls at 12 o clock, there's a great low end with a clear, tight, punchy sound. And the cab likes pedals, drive, fuzz, synths, no problem. Nicely designed tweeter frequencies. There has always been a good match between GK amps and Mesa cabs. I used to have a GK 800rb into Mesa 4x10s, it always had an awesome sound. I'm also amazed at the light weight of the subway 115, one hand lift no problem. All built in the normal solid Boogie style. Definitely beats lifting the old diesel 4x10 at 50kgs! I will keep an eye on the used ads, so I can add another subway. I'd like to hear the amp running at 4ohms, it must sound monster!
  6. I've had a look at the BF videos over the last few days. I play alt-rock/punk with a P bass/plectrum, GK legacy 800 & lots of pedals - overdrive, synth, wha - so I have a fairly bright, overdriven sound. The BF Two10 or the Super Compact sound like they have a low mid boost that I like. The SC sounded clearer, is that because of the tweeter? The big baby sounded a bit too flat frequency for me. I'm thinking of 2 SCs or 2 Two10s - anyone playing these in a loud band? I'm not sure what cab type would replace a mesa boogie 4x10? This cab was clear with tons of low end.
  7. Thanks for the offer, but I'm in London. I'm getting more and more interested on the BF cabs.
  8. My previous cabs have been mesa boogie deisel 4x10 x2 - amazing sound but 50kg! Eden D210XLT x2 - again excellent sound, but I can't keep lifting these monster cabs. So I'm looking for a replacement. I've never played a 12 inch speaker?
  9. My amp is a Gallien Krueger legacy 800. It's a very nice amp with the GK eq from the 800rb. 800w, it's a bit overkill (and not just Lemmy).
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions. Barefaced sound good, they don't make a 15? 2x12 might be too big to move, I'll check the dimensions. Does anyone play the BF 2x10?
  11. Mesa subway 15 on a beer crate? Could be enough?
  12. I'm looking for a compact cab that could compete with 2 guitars and a heavy hitting drummer. Small clubs, pubs. Is there a light, one cab solution, or is it x2 cabs, or 4x10, 2x12? i.e. would a Mesa subway 15 be enough? I need a cab that is clear enough if I'm DI'd for FOH, or no DI and still fill the room with low end.
  13. I've been asked about courier costs for the cabs. Approx within UK - 1 cab £50 - both cabs £80. Or put them in an Uber in London.
  14. Hi, does anyone have a Shuker J bass with the custom shape? It's shape is designed with deeper cutaways to work with a 24 fret neck. I was wondering how different the body shape is from a standard jazz? Longer top horn, but slimmer body? Jon has the bodies shown on his site, but I've seen a few variations - attached pics of basses with slightly wider bodies, curved top horn...or am I imagining this? Also is the body very small? P bass size?
  15. This bass is now on sale at the Bass Gallery in Camden Town, London NW1. Please contact them to view it and try it. They offer free shipping in UK, fully insured. The Bass Gallery 020 7267 5458 https://thebassgallery.com/
  16. Anyone using Bergantino, Vanderkley, Aguilar cabs with some drive/fuzz bass?
  17. Just need to point out that Eden recommend that you do not turn off the tweeter as it will blow the fuse in the crossover. I have always found Ampeg's 8x10 is a great amp for distorted rock bass, also most Boogie cabs. Zilla sound interesting, Barefaced seem to be the popular brand at the moment. Orange 1x15s are a classic design from the 70's, not sure if they match the early Boogie 15 sound? I played live recently through a Phil Jones C8, which sounded amazing for it's size. It liked the overdrive pedal...5 inch speakers anyone?
  18. Hi, I'm always reading everyone's point of view regarding bass cabs, make and speaker configuration. But very rarely does anyone state what style of music they are playing, what bass, and finger or plectrum? This makes all the difference to how you hear your bass sound. I feel some cabs are better suited to certain music styles. I play a P bass with a pick into Gk legacy 800 with 2 Eden D210XLT. Mainly rock, noisy indie, punk. The sound when I play clean is great, warm and thick, but with clarity. But the cabs do not like any drive/fuzz pedals, as the tweeters become very harsh with distortion. This makes me think that the Eden cabs were designed for soul, funk, motown, country, jazz but not distorted rock. I used to use a Mesa Boogie 4x10 and this cab loved distorted bass sounds. Tweeter switched on was no problem. But it weighed a ton...45kgs? So what cabs are out there that can deal with a grindy bass sound. Is it still only Boogie and Ampeg?
  19. Eden D210XLT are double front ported. Shameless plug...I have 2 for sale on this site.
  20. Eden say 30.8kg. They are 18mm ply and double ported, so they're not light. They are built for touring. I bought them to replace mesa boogie 4x10s, the Edens are lighter!
  21. Thanks, they are great cabs, loud, clear, deep sounding. I hardly ever use my own gear when playing live, so they are barely used.
  22. Thanks, yes it is a superb bass. I'm only selling because I'm play p basses now as they suit my band better, so both my jazzes have been sitting in their cases for a year. My 5 string is on sale here as well -
  23. Now sold. Fender American Elite Jazz Bass with a Hipshot A Fender fit, string-through bridge. Fantastic slim neck, with ebony fretboard and pearl blocks. The ebony fretboard models were only made for a limited time and are collectable. The Hipshot bridge is a direct replacement for the Fender bridge, no need for any new holes. The bass is in excellent condition, a few swirls on the scratchplate and a 3mm indentation on the neck that is too shallow to show in a photo. Comes with original hard case with docs and tools, The case is unused so excellent condition.
