1. Does anyone know if any "Associates" tabs are available. I am looking for this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krsCEr-6V5Y
2.
To be fair to Pino, he wasn't chosen because he sounded like Entwhistle, he was chosen because he was available and had the skills and chops to learn an entire show with four days notice. His fretless lines are inspirational and sublime. His motown inspired playing with Usher etc. is less inspirational for me. But you know, he's gotta earn a crust and fair play to him for being so versatile and making people take notice regardless of the genre.
I think the heavily chorused 80s sound is a cross he has to bare. People forget he is a jobbing musician and although many think money is vulgar, you have to pay the bills!
3. TBH not usually my cup of tea. but I have to concur with all the above. Well played, and that guy can sing too!
4. Whats the difference between a bedroom bassist and any other bassist. Isnt a "bedroom bassist" just a bassist playing in a bedroom?
5. Wouldnt the 'chav Fender' be the poorly made chinese copy with the huge logo?
6.
My band are supposed to be gigging this Saturday night in a pub we have played twice before with no issues... however.. It has become renowned over the last couple of months for becoming the local gypsy fraternity's boozer and some of them are pretty unpleasant/violent characters to say the least. Our usual rent-a-mob fan base ain't keen. It is also St Paddys weekend which could add to the fun?? Also I have a mate who plays in a couple of other bands locally and he told me that the landlord hasn't been paying everyone their agreed fee at the end of the night. (They have always paid us ok up until now) We are a female fronted pop/rock/funk covers band and my gut tells me to pull the plug on it. Never done that before though.... Thoughts/advice appreciated. Thanks TK
I'd say do it. Travellers only kick off outside, they dont want to get barred! Plus most pubs will be full or Irish anyway. Dont take offence but for most Irish a good night out ends with a scuffle! Many years ago I used to date an Irish lady with 4 brothers, saturday nights were never the same! The Irish love a drink and are spending the money, takings will be up! Happy venue, happy band!
7.
oh god, I think I might be the equivalent of a basschat hipster?? Obscure 6 string bass, 20+ pedals, all through cheap old peavey amps. Over playing on pretentious original instrumental music, but without the skill to back up my pretentions. I own a soldering iron but would never dare modify my bass. And to top it all off I hate watching covers bands!!!
More than 5 strings, you're in mate! Just buy one of those cheap t shirts from china with Armani written on it to complete the ensemble
8. OK, thanks I'll give that a go
9. Bit strange, but recently swapped some old pups into my j bass and they are catching a little on the wood! The foam is not springy enough to overcome this slight dragging. My question is, what is the best way to remove a little wood from the bottom of the pup cavity to give them a big of wiggle room
10. OMG! I'm selling my car!
11. Pino!
12. Call him Jaco
13.
But is that a genuine Dave bass......
Never! Only the pre '69 Dave had the black decal
14. Although its a lovely thing, I hate to be the 'party pooper' but is that a replacement bridge, as the strings look to be placed a little low; the 'G' string looks close to edge of the fretboard. Could be the camera angle but looks like it in 2 pics. I am prepared to stand corrected
15.
Like it
Or get a sticker with "My other bass is a Fender"
16.
You'd just get people saying "that's not a real Swift, you know".
17. Why not upset the Fenderarmy by buying a Fender and replacing the logo with "swift"
18. Does it come with a years subscription to imvu!
19.
For me, as a fiend for tone, Jaco's sound was never that inspiring (although I love his playing). I prefer the tone of Timmy C from RATM who is notorious for messing with his basses, pedals and amps. Interesting that no-one has yet suggested "the tone is all in the fingers"... are we all getting past that misnomer?
He might have a standard bass but clearly like playing with the amp and pedals. This unique tone is often lost, although the tone is Fender Jazz tone, which is not unique. His speed, intonation and innovation are unique
20. Not only in his fingers, I think he jumped on the poor thing at the end of this 5:01, when he picked it up there was a string hanging off. Although I was into this up until he started all that mucking around with the amps which was way over my head. But then I'm not really a jazz guy.
21.
I really like blank headstocks, they look cool.
+1 Dont bother with any decal. Just out of interest, if anyone on here with a genuine Fender damaged their neck and sourced a replacement that with a blank headstock, would they put a decal on?
22.
Because Jaco or JJs singer never said, I can't sing that can we play that a tone lower and still keep the baseline sounding the same with the low notes. Seriously though, I can't see why so many people think a standard fender or similar basic passive bass would need upgrading if the player is happy with it.
For some people playing with the components of their bass is as much fun as playing it.
