1. I love Yamaha gear and I was looking for something just like this to do a fretless conversion on, but it looks too nice!
 2.
If it isn't working, then it isn't working, The worst bands are the ones that stick togther out of habit and comfort. If the band isn't moving forward in some small way, it is time for that band to cease...but then it is also a business to some so ...??? I think bands have a finite life but not many recognise this..or want to.
You've just described my last marriage! lol
 3.
I let shoes and fancy hair products roll in from the postie unimpeded. It buys me a little leeway!
Yeah, its interesting how unending perfume, hair and body products are deemed essentials! Every man should have a hobby and hobbies are about spending money. You name it fishing, cars, golf. But, woman want you to treat 'them' like hobby, spending all your free time, attention and money on them
 4.
Yea it is a weird count like a lot of stranglers songs, you can get cues by listening to the drums for a lot of them, especially live
Isnt "Goodbye Toulouse" in 2 different time signatures.
 5. Just to provide you with some inspiration RIP Mick
 6. I always loved the way the guitar in this track helped give it a sinister feel and moved it away from just another dance track. Great little solo by Eddie too, not the greatest but it all fits so nicely. I heard this track in the car a few days ago and thought it does sound good
 7.
At the risk of hijacking the thread (bo11ocks to it I didn't know Mick had died), yes this is Japan, as I remember them anyway...
Back at ya!
 8.
Colin Moulding from XTC. David Margen from Santana.
+1 for Colin Moulding
 9.
A rake is when you pull the striking RH fingers up across 3, 4 5 etc strings. Mostly effective across 3 , IMO If you want to go up a scale, you can incorporate a flamenco type strum depnding om how many RH fingers you wont to use. Many players will use the idea with their thumb to get a fast ascending triplet and you need to sort out your damping as you don't want really live strings, IMO
OK....but! Again, looking at my sample phrase. I play GDAE open strings. What is the difference in sound from playing my 4 open strings in an ordinary fashion to 'raking' 4 open strings?
 10.
If it was 1972 it was probably the Demons and Wizards album , with Gary Thain ( the late, great ) on bass. Is the track your on about Easy Livin? Edit spelling, cannot spell bloody "easy"
Oh, golden days! I grew up on this stuff as a schoolboy!
 11.
Yes, it is a simple rake on the open strings. Use Scotts technique as described in the video. It works but needs a little practice

Yes, it is a simple rake on the open strings. Use Scotts technique as described in the video. It works but needs a little practice
Dont mean to sound like an idiot, by where in the video is the "raking" bit. He is running through some scale exercises and bangs on about right hand technique? I cant see how that applies to my op?
 12.
A great track to practice this is RHCP's Pretty Little Ditty, some nice movements around the fretboard whilst keeping the right hand raking the arpeggios...
?
 13. You can see where I have to rake on here hopefully?
 14. JBK beginning to melt Although I much prefer the live version....
 15. In musical terms, what does it mean to "rake" and how does this differ from slide? Thanks in anticipation?
 16.
Wouldnt tuning 2nd fret on E string work?
Yeah, I mentioned that further up. Nobody said anything so I guess not!
 17.
Now that is worth remembering
Oh yeah! I saw this too. Maybe we should have a secret sign to identify ouselves to him as bass chat members!
 18. Good news, found the cable. I just have to find a way to turn it down, as it seems to bypass the controls on the amp completely!
 19. Hmmm I think I've got something like that around here somewhere! Thanks, I'll have a look after I've cooked my tea! lol
 20. I have a small practice amp that I would like to play my PC through. Apart from the usual instrument connector plugs it has an auxiliary input with 2 "line" connectors red and white. What would be the cheapest quickest or easiest way to use this instead of my puny desktop speakers? My PC has a number of different connectors on the sound card but what sort of wiring would I need to do? Thanks in advance
 21. In the current economic climate it is difficult to price anything accurately. Its important to be realistic and patient too . Good luck bump
 22.
I think you mean at what stage you can call yourself a 'bass player' i.e. someone who can play the bass to a certain level of competence. Personally I think it's a title that can only be bestowed upon you by others - like a knighthood. It can't be bestowed by someone on themselves.
Agree
 23. Young kids dont seem to want to create bands or learn instruments, its much easier for them to just sample music and sing or "rap". Because every young kid thinks he can "spit lyrics" I am old enough to be able to say that the current music scene "for youngsters" has become stale and boring. Endless R&B artists singing about nightclubs and cars! Music moguls like Simon Cowell creating talent shows and practically forcing them to buy this stuff. What happened to angry youth, rebellion through rock & roll! Shame!
 24. How are you finding that new bridge? I had one like that and after a while it developed a little bend due to the back of the bridge being largely unsupported as the back screws are slightly inset
 25.
He has a great talent. But, there's something about him that I dont like.
As I said in my original post, he has a great talent. Back in the day I had a mate who was really in Level42. He played me a lot of the early stuff from Mark King too. They made some great pop songs too; and there is nothing wrong with that, we all have to pay bills! My local radio station played "running in the family" this morning and its still sounds clean and fresh after all these years, although I think thats down to the drummer (less is more) than the bassline, compared to the likes of "lessons in love" and "the chinese way" which have a great 'bass hook' without sounding like a 'showcase of talent'. Just my opinion, please dont be offended!
