Lovely bass. I bought it from California years ago. A member of the Ricresource forum helped me to import it (the original owner wouldn’t sell/ship outside of the states!) it was originally found to be my back up bass (I had a couple of 4003s at the time - montezuma and midnight blue) but in the end it took over in the studio. The producer preferred the sound of it in the mix and then it took over for live shows too. Now I live (and play/record) between Germany and England. This one didn’t really make it into the last recordings (apart from one song where I put tapewounds on it and played it with an eabow for a cello like effect!) I need to move this one on for something lighter and more adaptable for touring in England.

rolo79 started following Rare Rickenbacker 3001 (1976) Autumnglo - £2550
-
Now, owning this does not guarantee sounding like Geddy Lee, Mani, or Andy Nicholson, but it does mean that every other bassist on the bill and in attendance at your shows will come up to you after the gig. (As bass players this is about the best we can hope for!) For sale is this 1976 Rickenbacker 3001 in the super cool Autumnglo colour. It was my main recording bass for my first album and also made its way on to subsequent recordings. It’s currently fitted with some new groundwound strings and all set ups since I’ve owned it were by John @noiseworx. The bass works perfectly and has a great neck. Super loud and punchy sound, often described as “a p bass on steroids”. If comes with the original case. If you’re looking at this advert you know how rarely these come up for sale. There haven’t been any in groups or on Reverb for donkeys. Additionally, shipping an import duty now to the UK would be a nightmare. So, here’s your chance! You’re more than welcome to try the bass in Coventry. Or, between 27 December and and 2nd Jan I could arrange to travel to meet an hour from Coventry. Shipping would be very reluctant as the bass and case (it’s made of wood!) are super heavy. Packaging, shipping and insurance would add to the cost. Guess one thing to say is… Regarding part exchange: Live basses I’m in the market for and have my eye on: Limelight, Bravewood, Fender Custom Shop, Sandberg California II, Nash, Jon Shuker, or an interesting Musicman. (I’m basically after something lighter, with a worn in neck, 4 strings…) If you have one and are thinking of trading, I’m open to chat.

I certainly am getting a Vespa! Anytime I've gone to Italy of late I've seen more and more Japanese/Korean scooters...but I'm a style over substance man Like most people have said I thought: I can always get another 4003 if push comes to shove. So the 4003 Montezuma is the one for sale. As I said in the advert, it's the best sounding bass I've owned. Even better than other 4003s. Thanks for the advice guys! I may want it back if I end up starting a band in Milan!

Thanks for the advice! It has made things clearer in my head/confirmed what I was thinking!

When I was 15 my choice was: lovely US Jazz bass or a Vespa! I ended up with the bass! I will be getting a Vespa this time I reckon! Still none the wiser as to which to sell though!

Whether 'tis to sell the Rickenbacker 3001 or 4003 (Montezuma.) I'm moving to Milan and really can't justify bringing 5 basses/guitars, 3 amps and an array of pedals. So one of the good basses must go. Which would you sell and why? I love the 4003 as it's so versatile but the 3001 is special, no longer in production and in great nick! It's a toughie I can't work out!

I played a beat up Musicman years and years ago (probably 12/13) and it had fag burns in the back and everything...however, until I got my latest Ric I haven't played anything as good! Another one I regret not buying that year was an all original Fender Antigua 78 with all the lovely chrome.
Hello, and welcome to the forum............and the West Mids contingent continues to grow.
Wolverhampton hey! Never gigged there. Been to plenty at the Civic - however, some of my fondest memories are from an industrial estate in Wolverhampton. We recorded there with Gavin Monaghan. Good times!
Hey ROlo - small world, I took a break from bass to play things like mandolin & have also turned down SXSW due to the bands work commitments. I guess you have to roll with the punches. Welcome to the forum
Maybe we're dopplegangers! But that said - my friends always joked bassists always look the same! Very small world!
