Just had a poke around the web, looks like the Traditional series actually had 'American Traditional' written on the front of the headstock. Yours doesn't, so I'm guessing it's a 'proper' US Jazz
also, what is tail-lift?
Tail-lift's where the bridge starts to lift away from the body. It happens on most Rics (not my '83 ) because the bridge is only secured at the front, not the rear. Early 4003s had two extra screws to hold the bridge down. It's one of the many things that the children will tease Ric owners over

I could be wrong, but I thought the Traditional Jazzes had a one-piece scratchplate instead of the regular scratchplate and control plate. Of course, they could've been added afterwards. Also, that relic job...
I thought they were more of a Ford Transit myself
With you on that. Squier Precisions are Fiestas... or maybe a Transit Connect

I once stood in for a band where the guitarist got on stage after we were announced, plugged everything in, ramped everything up to 10 and then proceeded to tune up with an acoustic tuner. It took 10 minutes

That looks the nuts.

I've been eyeing these up on ebay. Thinking vintage white, lots of chrome, tasty. But 11lbs?

Want A 5 String Bass But Which?
Mylkinut replied to Gordon Thudmaster May's topic in General Discussion
My BB5000 has about as tight string spacing as you can get. It can be fiddly to play, but it suits me because the neck doesn't feel like such a massive change from my four-stringers. -
2nd bass buying advice, what should I be looking for?
Mylkinut replied to Pinball's topic in Bass Guitars
My advice would be to go to a shop and try as many basses as you can - find out what you like and what you don't. There's no 'need' to go active or older or newer, that's just personal preference. Secondly, buy second hand. You'll get far more bass that way. Thirdly, really think about needing a second bass. I bought my second because I needed a backup when I started playing live and things went from there. Looking back that money would've been better spent on my rig, but whatever tickles your pickle. It's hard to say no to GAS. -
Your yam & and p bass are stunning ! So sweet

+1. Gorgeous! I hope my White J ends up this colour one day!

Oh man. That Precision looks incredible. My favourite colour for a bass is white for Precision and Jazz, black for everything else really. I also like LPB. Oh, and I'm a huge fan of maple fretboards.
Thanks muchly - that Precision is what turned me onto white basses in the first place I've actually since bought another white P (white pg, maple 'board)... really should do an updated family shot.
On a cat? Nah, tabby or tuxedo for me
I've been thinking about getting her refin'd, girlfriend says it'd be cruel but the ginger's getting a bit dull for me

An excellent soundtrack to your next rodeo or paperback western. http://soundcloud.co...onco/blue-dress
Yes! Olympic White that has aged (or Vintage White for new basses), with one of the following pickguard options: White, Parchment, Mint, Black or Gold Anodised. But never Tort, Pearl, Mirror, Pink Metalflake, etc. etc. And preferably with a maple neck!
Sir, I absolutely cannot fault your taste

I also like Sonic Blue.

Crumbs.

MIJ P bass pickup has weak output: replacement options?
Mylkinut replied to franzbassist's topic in Bass Guitars
I like the Fender 'Original' pickups. If you're worried about breaking the internals up, take out the whole lot (for now) and get a wiring harness from KiOgon. This give you the option of keeping the original electrics and connections intact and untouched, whilst also giving you an easy way to swap in new pups.
Personally changing pickups wouldn't bother me at all, but if you are bothered this is a +1 I've got Seymour Duncan SPB-2s, lovely middle ground between vintage and QDs with plenty of output. -
Fender Dusty Hill Signature Precision Bass
Mylkinut replied to TransistorBassMan's topic in Bass Guitars
Quite like that. I'd rather build a Warmouth look-a-likey though. -
Ooh, that's pretty.

Bought myself an amp on here and I sold my old Stingray. both very pleasant. I've listed plenty of other stuff but it always ends up on ebay after a while. I've got plenty of stuff I want so maybe I'll have a go at trading next time. I don't mind dealing on eBay but rarely do I buy anything directly off it. My last buy was listed on there with no bids, so I approached the seller by email and negotiated an awesome price. Mine now The Ric and the Hartke both came from Gumtree, never a bad experience there either.

I've been after a black or white PM4 for ages now, this isn't helping
Too right... each to his own and all that, but how can you say a 56 P-Bass is ugly when you play a Status Kingbass Artist, a foul instrument which is quite rightly criticised in bass playing society for resembling an unholy union between a shovel and a diseased banjo with rickets? 5-string basses - how useful is the 5th string? POLL time, yay!
Mylkinut replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
I do own one, but if I'm honest it's only because the bass the low B's attached to is really nice. Do sometimes wish it was a 4 though -
Now THIS is what a Rick should sound like!
Mylkinut replied to Cosmo Valdemar's topic in General Discussion
This is a great description of what I love about a good Rick. People often get wrapped up in the clank and completely miss that singing upper register stuff (see the Jon Camp clip I posted). Nothing does that like a Rick IMO, and as further evidenced by the same clip, it's the contrast of those singing, bell-like upper register tones with the aggressive, snarly lower register tones that really does it for me.
Very true - those higher tones are what sold me on my Ric having never played one before. I'm one of those players where there really isn't a 'dusty end', so I'm chuffed. -
Ric - 50s design, thin pickups, rubbish tone with fingers (OKish with a pic) - Chris Squires - Precision for recording. Bruce Foxton - Precision because Rics impossible to keep in tune - look great/sound crap. Great look, great style - but if you want to play bass then stick with a P/'Ray!!! Every bass player dreams of a Ric - and every bass player goes back to a P after playing one!! Nuf said.
'Nuf said' indeed I own a couple of Ps and a Ric - very different but both great. If I were to sell one it'd be the Ric only because I'm less attached to it. You really have to try one (or a dozen) to see if they're for you, but don't worry too much about how 'different' it feels from what you're used to. If you like it, then there's no problem. BTW, I'd offer mine up to try but it's in need of a set up and it's a few counties over
